Graveside services for Edwin Jack Sims Jr., 76 and a resident of Montevallo, were held on Monday, July 10, 2000 at Montevallo Cemetery, with Scott Watson officiating. Burial followed at Montevallo Cemetery.
A self-employed pharmacist, he was died on July 8, 2000 in Alabaster. He was a Word War II Navy veteran and a member of Providence Baptist Church in Montevallo.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara J. Sims. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Sims of Montevallo; two sons, Mike Sims and Dennis Sims, both of Montevallo; a sister, Catherine Beindorf and her husband, Jim, of Greensboro, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jared Sims, Jeremy Sims and Jennifer Sims, all of Montevallo; Nicholas "Erica" Evans of Calera; and Ben Evans of Montevallo; and one great-grandchild, Eric Evans of Calera.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Providence Baptist Church in Montevallo.

Graveside services for Homer Lee Nelson, 89 and a resident of Clanton, were held on Sunday, July 9, 2000 at Evergreen Cemetery in Verbena, with Rev. Sidney Gray officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
he was born on Aug. 6, 1910 in Chilton County, the son of the late James Frank Nelson and the late Minnie Lee Nelson. A farmer, he died on July 8, 2000 at his residence in Clanton.
He is survived by three brothers, Amos Nelson of Sylacauga, Donald Nelson of Billingsley and Herbert Nelson of Tuscaloosa; four sisters, Dorothy Howell of South Port, Fla., Betty Gray of Montgomery, Trudy Dykes of Loveland, Ohio, and Myrtle Cox of Ocala, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mary L. Mattingly
Graveside services were held for Mary L. Mattingly, 79 and a resident of Verbena, on Sunday, July 9, 2000 at Mt. Creek Baptist Cemetery, wtih Rev. Lamar Davis officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Creek Baptist Cemetery in Mt. Creek.
She was born on May 22, 1921 at Kentucky, the daughter of the late John Hungate and the late Nancy Hungate. A homemaker, she died on July 7, 2000 at her residence in Verbena.
Survivors include her husband, Kelley Mattingly of Verbena; two sons, Ronald Mattingly of Verbena and John Mattingly of Vero Beach, Fla.; four grandsons, David Mattingly of Norcross, Ga., Paul Mattingly of Deluth, Ga., John Kelley Mattingly of Knoxville, Tenn., and Scott Mattingly of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Undyne Mattingly of Verbena; and a brother, John Hungate of Louisville.
David Arnold Calloway
Funeral services for David A. Calloway, 40, a resident of Maplesville, will be held today at 2 p.m. at Maplesville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Matt Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Born on Oct. 5, 1959, he was the son of the late John David Calloway and the late Maybelline Beam Calloway. He died on July 11, 2000 at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham.
Survivors include by his wife, Anita Anderson Calloway of Maplesville; two sons, David Earl Calloway and Jonathan William Calloway, both of Maplesville; three brothers, Billy Wayne Beam, Charles Edward Beam, both of Randolph, and Bill Beam of Oklahoma; three sisters, Brenda Freeman of Lawley, Linda Tillery of Randolph and Glenda Jones of Clanton; one grandmother, Marie Hayes of Maplesville; a grandfather, Sam Hayes of Maplesville; six brothers-in-law, Tootle Freeman of Lawley, Billy Tillery of Randolph, Roland Jones of Clanton, Robert Anderson of Maplesville, Michael Anderson of Thorsby, Jerry Atchison of Plantersville; and three sisters-in-law, Lynn Beam of Randolph, Sharon Beam of Randolph and Angie Anderson of Maplesville.
Walter James Dow
Funeral services for Walter J. Dow, 46 and a resident of Maplesville, will be held today at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.
He was a truck driver for Bama West Trucking and served in the United States Air-forc. He died on July 3, 2000.
Active pallbearers are Charles Johns, Dennis Terry, Stan Goff, Heith Clark, Chad McDonald and Greg Foley. Honorary pallbearers are James Friday and O'Neal Caton.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Fails Dow of Maplesville; two step-sons, Mark Howard Neal and Scott William Neal; one daughter-in-law, Susan Neal and his mother-in-law, Tennie Fails.
Henry Allen Whitley Jr.
Graveside services for Henry Allen Whitley Jr., 75 and a resident of Clanton, were held on Saturday, July 15, 2000 at Bethsalem Baptist Cemetery in Billingsley, with Rev. Donnie Burns officiating.
Born on July 31, 1924 in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late Henry Allen Whitley and the late Alice M. Armstrong Whitley. A civil engineer, he died on July 13, 2000 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis G. Whitley of Clanton; two daughters, Lisa Waters of Jemison and Robyn Denham of Clanton; four sisters, Hilda Godwin of Cropwell, Ala., Beulah Holmes of Centerpoint, Ala., Ann Gable of Trussville and Rena Hudson of Warrior, Ala.; five grandsons, Jeremy Waters, Dustyn Waters, Chris Waters, Nathan Waters and David Acker; and a granddaughter, Jodi Denham.

Funeral services for Horace W. Maddox, Sr., 65, Thorsby, will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at 1 p.m at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Olen P. Hutchins officiating.
Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Maddox was born in Chilton County on June 13, 1935, the son of the late Leonard and Lois Price Maddox. He was a printer. He died on July 16, 2000, at Briarcliff Nursing Home.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Maddox, Thorsby; three sons, Horace W. Maddox, Jr., Verbena, Jimmy Maddox, Thorsby, Jeffery Maddox, Clanton; two sisters, Pearl Bice, Clanton, and Polly Jones, Birmingham; one brother, Vernon Maddox, Clanton; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
