Felix Brown Whatley of Broad Street, Kinsey, died early Saturday morning, April 12, 2003, in a Dothan hospital following an extended illness. He was 80.Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, in the Kinsey Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Wingate, the Rev. Robert Strickland and the Rev. James Rich officiating. Burial will follow in the Kinsey Cemetery with Holman-Headland Mortuary directing. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsey Baptist Church, 6745 Walden Drive, Kinsey, Ala., 36303.Holman Headland Mortuary of Headland, 334-693-3371, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Annie "Sane" Baker of Marianna's Holyneck Community died Monday morning, April 7, 2003, at Jackson County Convalescent Center in Graceville following a brief illness. She was 106. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Holyneck Missionary Baptist Church in Campbellton with the Revs. Richard Peterson and James Youmas officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at McKinnie Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Bennett Griffin of Dothan died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at her daughter's home in Dothan. She was 98. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at First Presbyterian Church Chapel with the Rev. John Mark Wilson and the Rev. Paul Roten officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Betty Carmichael, 1015 Deerpath Road, Dothan. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity or Palmer House in Jackson, Miss., c/o Charles McAllister, 1201 Earline Road, Dothan, Ala. 36305.

Mrs. Ara Elizabeth Abbott Henderson of Dothan died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. She was 89. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 11 at Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan with the Rev. Doug MacCormack and the Rev. Gilbert Dale Wommack officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Ray Henderson, 6364 Fortner St., Dothan. Flowers will be accepted.

Mr. Robert E. Jenkins of Dothan died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at his residence. He was 61. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Orrin Barrett officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Christian Home Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home. Ruby Nell Johnson of Dothan died early Thursday morning, April 10, 2003, at Extendicare Health Care Center following an extended illness. She was 85. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Chaplain Eddie Bliss officiating. Mrs. Johnnie Mae Jones of Ozark died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at her residence. She was 69. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at First Missionary Baptist Church, East Andrews Avenue, Ozark, with Pastor Dr. S.C. Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Travelers Rest Cemetery.

Virginia Clark Whatley Jones "Gooden" of Abbeville died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at her home. She was 84. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at First Baptist Church in Shorterville. Burial will follow. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. (CST) Friday, April 11 at Lewis Mortuary in Fort Gaines, Ga.

Sandra Alice Chapman Lawson of Main Street, Ashford, died Wednesday night, April 9, 2003, at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was 60. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. (EST) Saturday, April 12 at Westview United Methodist Church in Blakely, Ga., with the Rev. Lonnie Dunbar and the Rev. James Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Blakely Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Box 2127, Dothan, Ala. 36302 or to the American Cancer Society.

Ferman "Joe" Pennington of Daleville died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Flowers Hospital. He was 63. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Level Plains Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Stokes officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Byrd Funeral Home. Mr. Pennington will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time Saturday.

Carrei McDuffie Riddle of Westville, Fla., in the New Hope Community of Holmes County, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Bonifay, Fla. She was 84. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Lindsey Martin and the Rev. Walton Daniel Padegett officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 11 at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Geneva.

Mrs. Nevada Jackson Sabre of Cocoa Beach, Fla., formerly of Columbia, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach following a sudden illness. She was 72. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Cottonwood where the Rev. Thomas Dawsey Sr. is pastor, with Elder Johnnie L. Lockhart officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Memory Chapel Funeral Home. At other times, friends may visit the family at 2104 Aberdeen Road. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time.

Mary McCarty Bruce of Lewisburg, Pa., formerly of Vero Beach, Fla., died March 19, 2003, at Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg. She was 90.Graveside services were Friday, March 21 at Lewisburg Cemetery with the Rev. Jerome W. Haupt, III officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva. Jessie Mae Spinks of County Road 546, New Brockton, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Enterprise Nursing Home. She was 94.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10 at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel with Ronald F. Bass officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in New Brockton. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. James D. "Litt" Thomas of Johnson Homes, Dothan, passed Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Ozark.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 11 at Alabama Avenue Baptist Church in Dothan with the Rev. W.C. Snell giving words of comfort. Interment will be at Dothan City Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until services Friday at the church. Reposing will be at Scott's Chapel Hill Mortuary, 701 Daleville Ave., Enterprise. Family will be at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Earlie Mae Thompson, 861 Bethel Road, Headland.

J.D. Glenn Whitehead of Whitehead Drive, Webb, died early Monday evening, April 7, 2003, at a Dothan hospital following a short illness. He was 90. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at Webb Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven Scarborough and Dr. Jerry Windsor officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. Masonic rites will be conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in the church sanctuary. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Webb Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 70, Webb, Ala. 36376.

Ms. Rena Mae Baker of Dothan passed Saturday morning, April 12, 2003, at her residence. She was 55. Homegoing celebrations will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17 at Alabama Avenue Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. W.C. Snell officiating. Burial will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation for Ms. Baker will be 9 a.m. to service time Thursday.

Billy Joe Barefield of Boynton Street, Headland, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, April 15, 2003, at his home. He was 42.Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17 at First Baptist Church of Headland with Dr. Cecil Sanders Jr. and the Rev. Hugh D. Kirkland Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Holman-Headland Mortuary in Headland.

John Palmer Douglass, a resident of Wesley Manor, died Monday night, April 14, 2003. He was 79. A private family graveside service will be held.
