Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Oakview Church of God in Donalsonville, Ga., with the Rev. Mylan Brookins and the Rev. Willie Byron Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Church Cemetery in Iron City, Ga.

Joshua Bartow Bevis Jr. of Enterprise died Monday, April 21, 2003, in Enterprise. He was 79. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Walker Epps officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Searcy Funeral Home. Charity Parmer Helms, a former resident of Abbeville, died early Tuesday afternoon, April 21, 2003, at Cedar Crest Health and Rehabilitation in Montgomery after a short illness. She was 89. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ray S. Reiley officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Level Baptist Cemetery, between Blue Springs and Louisville. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the mortuary in Abbeville.

Mr. M.C. Hollis Jr. of Caryville, Fla., died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Northwest Florida Hospital in Chipley, Fla., after an extended illness. He was 85. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva, 334-684-2600.

Mr. Dewey Elmer Hughes, a resident of Hartford Healthcare, died Monday, April 21, 2003, after an extended illness. He was 94. Funeral services may be obtained by calling Pittman Funeral Home of Samson, 334-898-7141.

Mr. Maxwell H. Jeffries of Shadowood Drive, Dothan, passed away Monday, April 21, 2003, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan. He was 81. Graveside services will be noon Thursday, April 24 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Ala., with the Rev. Jamie Danford officiating. There will be no scheduled visitation at Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. Maxwell Jeffries, 105 Shadowood Drive, Dothan.

Mary Register Jordan of Graceville, Fla., died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Campbellton-Graceville Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by James & Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville, Fla., 850-263-3238.

Mr. Cyrus N. Smith of Jupiter, Fla., died Friday, April 18, 2003, at his residence in Jupiter. He was 69. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at Pittman Funeral Home Chapel in Samson with the Rev. Randy Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to funeral time Thursday. Jack L. Standifer of Dothan died at his residence early Monday morning, April 21, 2003, following an extended illness. He was 75. Pearl Williams "Pud" Sturgis of Tallahassee and formerly of Dothan died Saturday, April 19, 2003, in Tallahassee. She was 91. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. (CDT) Saturday, April 26 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Dothan. Interment at Dothan City Cemetery will be privately held. The family will receive friends immediately following services in the parrish hall. PFC John Eli "Johnny" Brown of Troy, a member of the 101st Airborne 2-44 Ada stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, died recently in Baghdad, Iraq. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Park Memorial United Methodist Church in Troy with the Reverend Steve Rascoe officiating. Burial will follow at Ramah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in the Josie Community with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.
