Effie Galloway Hughes of the Echo community in Dale County, died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2003, at Oakview Manor Health Care Center in Ozark. She was 89. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Brown's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marquis M. Wingard officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the services. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Holman-Headland Mortuary in Headland. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Brown's United Methodist Church, c/o Erma Lois Sheffield, 533 E. Eufaula St., Ozark, Ala. 36360.

Mrs. Vonnie Chandler King of Montgomery, formerly of Elba, departed this life Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at her residence in Montgomery. She was 94. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel with Elder James Donaldson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Level Community Cemetery. The King family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Myrtle Dale Martin of Enterprise died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Medical Center Enterprise. She was 91. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Westview Baptist Church with the Rev. Louie Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Eleanor Croft "Pete" Wright McGowen of Hermitage Drive, Montgomery, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at her residence after a long illness. Memorial services were held concurrently with her husband's at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at First United Methodist Church of Montgomery with Dr. Karl Stegall officiating. In lieu of flowers, he family requests memorial gifts be made to The Wellness Foundation at the Montgomery Cancer Center or to First United Methodist Church of Montgomery.

Gwenn Miller of Enterprise died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in Long Beach, Calif. She was 70. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Butler officiating. Burial with military honors will be 2 p.m. (EDT) Monday at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Seale.

Mr. Andres Hernandez Regino, formerly of Enterprise, died Thursday, July 31, 2003. He was 48. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark, 334-774-4551.

Mrs. Martha Ellen Steely of North Glenn Street, Geneva, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva after an extended illness. She was 78. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Geneva City Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Lawler and Dr. J. Cris Adams officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church building fund, Wiregrass Nursing Home or a favorite charity.

Dr. Clifford L. Stephenson of Dothan died Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, after a brief illness. He was 75. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. R. Lawson Bryan officiating. Burial will follow at Dothan City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Laydell Yates of East Main Court, Headland, died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 2, 2003, at his home. He was 76. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary in Headland. At other times, the family will be at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Deese, 128 Banner St., Napier Field.

Barbara Owens Bouchillon died at her home in Starkville, Miss., Friday, Aug. 15, 2003. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at First Presbyterian Church. Interment followed at Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Starkville Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mississippi State Wesley Foundation, the American Cancer Society or a favorite charity.

Baby boy Ethan Wyatt Chandler of Blakely, Ga., died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at a Donalsonville Hospital in Donalsonville, Ga. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Pinelawn Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Randall officiating.

Mr. Walter "Walt" Hamrick of County Road 55, Ashford, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at his residence after an extended illness. He was 74. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Cedar Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Don Creel and Dick Dickinson officiating. Burial will follow at Ashford City Cemetery. Mr. Hamrick's body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, Ala. 36302.

Emily Jean Henderson, the infant daughter of David and Amanda Henderson of Opp, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at her residence in Opp. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Keahey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Kinston City Cemetery.

Dorris Holland Hooper of Pensacola, Fla., and formerly of Hartford, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at West Florida Hospital of Pensacola, Fla. She was 83. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Hartford City Cemetery with Dr. Billy Gather officiating. Visitation will be 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at Bottoms Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Hartford.

Margaret Irene Hopson of Honeysuckle Road, Dothan, passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at Wesley Manor Methodist Home. She was 86. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home of Dothan, 334-793-1117.

Mrs. Mavis Bryant Lawson of Andalusia died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at a Montgomery hospital. She was 73. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Keahey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Leona Sexton, a resident of Extendicare Health and Rehabilitation Center, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003. She was 91. Mr. Michael R. Warren of Airport Road, Hartford, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at the family residence after a lengthy illness. He was 48. Funeral arrangements and list of survivors are incomplete and will be announced by Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb, 334-886-7777.

U.S. Army (retired) Maj. Joe Jack Wilson of Enterprise died Tuesday morning, Aug. 19, 2003, at the family residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 63. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, with full military honors at Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel.

Lewie Daniel (Danny) Adams of Ft. Gaines, Ga., died late Wednesday morning, Aug. 13, 2003, at a Dothan hospital after a short illness. He was 49. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. (EDT) Friday, Aug. 15, at New Park Cemetery in Ft. Gaines with the Rev. Randy Stokes officiating. The family will be at the home of his father, Gerald G. Adams, 501 E. Hartford Road in Ft. Gaines, Ga. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2346 W. Main St., Suite 3, Dothan, Ala. 36301.

Mrs. Darlene Mary Bell of Airport Road, Hartford, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Flowers Hospital after an apparent heart attack. She was 43. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Tabernacle Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to time to depart for the cemetery.

Mrs. Faye Blankenship of Dothan died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, after a brief illness. She was 65. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Ward-Wilson Memory Hill Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Thaxton Whiddon and Donald Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted.

Mr. Earl T. Brown of Ozark died Wednesday evening, Aug. 13, 2003, after a courageous fight with bone cancer. He was 77. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Ozark Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Aman, Chaplain Randall Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Holman Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service Saturday. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Ozark Baptist Church Building Fund, 282 S. Union Ave., Ozark, Ala. 36360, or to Wiregrass Hospice, 1970 E. Willie C. Carroll of Newville departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at his home. He was 38. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Newville with the Rev. Eddie W. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 5 p.m. Friday at Levite Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services.

Mr. Gregory Creamer of Lynn Haven, Fla., passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003. He was 44. Funeral services will be 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Hugh Tucker and Mr. Mickey Miller officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adventure Camp through the Lynn Haven Police Department or Anchorage Childrens Home, 425 E. 19th St., Panama City, Fla. 32401.
