Glenn Beck

REFORM - Glenn Beck, 53, 1115 First St. N., died Aug. 13, 2000, at his residence. Services will be at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel on Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Floyd Posey and the Rev. Sam Junkin officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform is directing.

He is preceded in death by his brother, John Beck.

Survivors include wife, Sarah Beck, Reform, Ala.; two daughters, Joyce Knopp and husband, Terry, Reform, Ala., and Mary Long and husband, Jeff, Reform, Ala.; a son, Michael Beck, Reform, Ala.; brothers-in-law, Louis Reece and wife, Alice, Carrollton, Ala., and Billy Joe Reece and wife, Sarah, Aliceville, Ala.; two brothers, Wayne Beck and wife, Patricia, Echola, Ala., and Myron Beck, Gordo, Ala.; parents, T.C. and Charlene Beck, Gordo, Ala.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Knopp, Joshua Knopp, Kimberly Knopp, Alisa Long, Jeremy Long and Sara Long.

Mr. Beck was employed by Mid South Drilling of Carrollton and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Pallbearers will be David Brown, Ronald Acker, Keith Reece, Keith Crowley, Dewayne Beck and Daniel Beck.

Thelma Lee Britt

GORDO - Thelma Lee Britt, 85, 6562 County Road 57, died Aug. 13, 2000, at her residence. Services will be at West End Baptist Church on Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Britt; son, Allan Britt.

Survivors include a daughter, Della D. Buonamici, Oakland, Calif.; three sons, Robert C. Sullivan and wife, Ann, Phoenix, Ariz., Grover V. Sullivan and wife, Pat, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and James E. Britt and wife, Cheryl, Jasper, Ala.; a sister, Vera Sullivan, Aliceville, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Britt was a member of West End Baptist Church, V.F.W Auxiliary and the Golden Agers Sunday School Class and she was retired from the Aliceville Cotton Mill.

Pallbearers will be Deacons of West End Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of West End Baptist Church and the Golden Agers Sunday School Class.

Alex Harrison Crotwell

TUSCALOOSA - Alex Harrison Crotwell, 24, 3630 55th St. E., died Aug. 13, 2000. Services will be at Memory Chapel on Aug. 16, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery at 1 p.m. Visitation is tonight from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

Johnnie Hall

CRESTVIEW, Fla. - Johnnie Hall, 88, passed away Saturday night in a local nursing home. Mr. Hall taught elementary education, was principal of Okaley Junior High for three years, principal at Crossroads Junior High for three years, high school coach at Gorgas High for nine years and principal at Gorgas High for three years. Mr. Hall ended his career as supervisor of secondary education and supervisor of textbooks with the Okaloosa County School System.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Dunn Hall of Crestview, Fla.; two sons, Garland Earl Hall of Crestview, Fla. and Donald Paul Hall of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two brothers, S.L. Hall of Berry, Ala. and Ray Hall of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one sister, Gladys Hall Dunn of Mobile, Ala.

A time of visitation was conducted Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Whitehurst Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Services were on Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at the Whitehurst Funeral Home Chapel at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Wilson officiating. Burial followed at Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery. The family requests that donations be made to the Methodist Children Home, P.O. Box 830, Selma, Ala., 36702-9900, or to your favorite charity. Whitehurst Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

John Arthur Holt

HOOVER - John Arthur Holt, 68, a corporate president of Aluma Sales and Marketing in Birmingham, died of a heart attack Aug. 6, 2000, in Foley.

Services were on Aug. 9, 2000, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with burial in Southern Heritage Cemetery. Ridout's Valley Funeral Home handled arrangements.

He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include wife, Jean; daughters, Claire Travis and Jenifer Tarrant, both of Birmingham, and Julie Christopher of Jackson, Miss.; sons, Michael Holt of Pelham and Jim Holt, Bryan Holt and Edward Holt, all of Birmingham; brothers, W.E. "Sonny" Holt and Louis Anthony "Tony" Holt, both of Tuscaloosa, and Newell Lee Holt of Sanford, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial may be made to Our Lady of Sorrows School Foundation in Birmingham or to St. Richard School Foundation in Jackson.

Clifton Lee Johnson

MILLPORT - Clifton Lee Johnson, 78, 107 Cemetery Drive, died Aug. 11, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Miss. Services will be at Holly Grove Baptist Church on Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Paynes Chapel. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services. Dowdle Funeral Home of Millport is directing.

Geraldine P. McGee

GORDO - Geraldine P. McGee, 71, 1085 County Road 16, died Aug. 14, 2000, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Funeral plans will be announced later by Skelton Funeral Home of Reform.

William Troy Shaw Sr.

HOMERVILLE, Ga. - William Troy Shaw Sr., 70, passed away Aug. 9, 2000, in the South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, following a short illness. Services were on Aug. 12, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God. Burial followed in the Shiloh Church Cemetery. Roundtree Funeral Home of Homer-ville was in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. Henry J. Sledge

TUSCALOOSA - The Rev. Henry J. Sledge, 1118 28th St., died Aug. 13, 2000, at the VA Medical Center. Funeral plans will be announced later by Rollins' Mortuary.

Mary Virginia McCafferty Stephens

REFORM - Mary Virginia McCafferty Stephens, 88, 441 New Providence Road, died Aug. 12, 2000, at her daughter's home. Services were at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel Aug. 13, at 3 p.m. The Rev. James Posey and the Rev. Dan Turman officiated. Burial followed in Magnolia Memorial Gardens in Aliceville. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Vernon Stephens; a son, Charles Virgil Stephens; a grandson, Brandt Stephens.

Survivors include three daughters, Pat Bain, Reform, Ala., Allene Clemmons, Reform, Ala. and Kate Stephens, Scottsboro, Ala.; a son, Henry Jones, Nothport, Ala.; a brother, Robert McCafferty and wife, Doris, Aliceville, Ala.; 11 grandchildren, Charlene Moorehead (Allen), Michele Snyder (Jeff), Trina Lambert (George), Chuck Ryland, Wayne Marlowe (Carol), Aubrey Marlowe, Kenny Marlowe (Rita), Deedera Rhodes, Gwen Jones, Jay Bain and Hank Stephens (Dana); 27 great-grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren, a special niece, Diane Findley and numerous other nieces and nephews and friends that she loved.

Mrs. Stephens was a Christian and lifelong member of Garden Baptist Church of Aliceville. She was retired from Huyck Felt in Aliceville and also worked at the Aliceville Cotton Mill for many years. She was a wonderfully devoted mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her friends and family.

Pallbearers will be Jay Bain, Allen Marlowe, Joseph Marlowe, Kenny Marlowe, Stephen Moorhead, Chuck Ryland and Hank Stephens.

Honorary pallbearers are Aubrey Marlowe, Wayne Marlowe, Allen Moorhead, Jeff Synder, Dr. Lee Richardson, Dr. John Mantle, Nurses and Staff of Pickens County Home Health Care and many friends whom she loved so dearly throughout her life.

Mattie Pearl Wood Boler

NORTHPORT - Mrs. Mattie Pearl Boler, 70, 4202 Smith St., died Aug. 14, 2000, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be at Sunset Chapel on Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jerry Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services. Sunset Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her father, William Dave Wood; her mother, Annie Pearl Wood; her brother, Columbus Clear Wood.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Thomas Boler; daughters, Rebecca Green wood Meyer and Lisa Boler; sons, Thomas Boler, Howard Boler, David Boler and Chuck Boler; sisters, Betty McDaniel, Nell Keaton, Doris Stokes and Shirley Stephens; 14 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Boler, Howard Boler, David Boler, Chuck Boler, Timothy Boler, Ryan Green wood, William Meyer, Dillen Boler and Logan Green wood.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Edward Hillard, Dr. Anne Lewis, Dr. Debra Davis, DCH Cancer Center and William Quimby.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to DCH Cancer Center.

Malissa D. Bonner

TUSCALOOSA - Malissa D. Bonner, 76, 3001 23rd St., died Aug. 11, 2000, at her home. Services will be on Aug. 17, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Jessie White Jr. as pastor and the Rev. Leroy Adams Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park with Rollins' Mortuary directing.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Mason Bonner of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; three daughters, Annie (Leroy) Adams, Pearlie (Nathan) Bell of Buffalo, N.Y. and Doris (Tony) Darling of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one son, Joseph (Heidi) Bonner of Buffalo, N.Y.

She will lie in state at the church one hour prior to funeral time on Thursday.

Melba Delores Brett

TUCALOOSA - Mrs. Melba Delores Brett, 91, died Aug. 12, 2000, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala. A memorial service will be at the Raleigh Memorial Park Chapel at 11 a.m., Aug. 19. The Rev. Gloria Johnson, White Memorial Presbyterian Church, Raleigh, N.C., will officiate.

Mrs. Brett was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles H. Brett in 1978; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Durst, Sabetha, Kan.; two sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include a twin sister, Mrs. Donna Lewis, Carson City, Nev.; her sons, Dr. C. Everette Brett and his wife, Glenna of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Dewey H. Brett and his wife, Muriel of Gaithersburg, Md.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brett began her higher education at the University of Nebraska where she met her husband and married in 1931. She continued her education over the years eventually receiving a BS in Education from Oklahoma State University and an MS in Guidance and Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She began her teaching career in a one-room school in rural Nebraska and, after marriage, continued to teach in Nebraska City, Neb., until her husband took a faculty position in 1943 at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Okla. There she served as Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs until moving in 1952 to Raleigh, where Dr. Brett joined the faculty at North Carolina State University. Mrs. Brett continued her career in education as Girl's Guidance Counselor at Hugh Morrison High School, Raleigh, N.C., until her retirement in 1974. She continued to live in Raleigh, participating in church activities, the NCSU Women's Club and enjoying her love of traveling, until 1994 when she moved to Tuscaloosa to be closer with family.

Mrs. Brett was devoted to her family, having the privilege of watching her grandchildren grow up into people she could be proud of and knowing her great-grandchildren, in whom she also took great pride.
