Mary Edna Anders
NORTHPORT - Mary Edna Anders, passed away October 18, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held at Riverwood Presbyterian Church, today at 3 p.m. Rev. John W. Robertson and Rev. Bryan Bond will officiate.
She is preceded in death by her parents, the late James W. Anders and the late Edna Anders and her brother, the late J. Russell Anders.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mary A. (J. Russell) Anders of Washington, D.C. and several cousins.
The daughter of the late James W. and Edna Adams Anders, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary A. (Mrs. J. Russell) Anders, Washington, D.C., and several cousins.
She received degrees from the University of Alabama, University of North Carolina, and Columbia University. She held positions in library and information science areas in several universities in the Southeast, retiring as Principal Research Scientist from Georgia Tech Research Institute in 1981. One of the four-member staff of the American Library Association's Survey of Library Functions of the States, she was also the Executive Director of the Southeastern States Cooperative Library Survey. In recognition of her achievements, the Southeastern Library Association presented her with its Mary V. Rothrock Award; the Alabama Library Association its Distinguished Service Award; and the University of North Carolina School of Library and Information Science a Distinguished Alumna Award.
She was a member of the Riverwood Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Tuscaloosa Public Library or a Charity of Donor's Choice.

Lynda Alexander Randolph
Lynda Alexander Randolph, 86, passed away October 21, 2001 at DCH Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, Tuscaloosa, Tuesday October 23, 2001 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Pastor George Jackson will officiate. Visitation will be held tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home.
Survivors include sisters, Olivia "Bitsy" Adams, Atlanta, Ga., Evelyn Kapanowski, Bellview, MI.; brother, James S. Alexander, Huntsville, AL; sons, Rick Randolph, Rainsville, AL., and Joseph Randolph, Northport, AL; three grandchildren, Alex McCormick, Birmingham, AL., Brandi Randolph and Trevor Randolph, Rainsville, AL.; and one great-grandson, Caden Randolph, Rainsville, AL.
Lynda Randolph grew up in the Gorgas community. After receiving a degree in education from the University of Alabama, she embarked on a teaching career that would span 41 years. Although her greatest passion was teaching, she spent her most loving hours with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her heart and her door were always open to family and friends. As a notable member and sponsor of the Foster Parent program, many children and the community as a whole benefited from her countless contributions, and we will all miss her very much. She was an exceptional person.

Juanita Strawn Noland
Juanita Strawn Noland, 89, of 23394 Highway 17, died October 21, 2001 at Pickens County Medical Center. Services will be held at Carrollton First United Methodist Church, Tuesday October 23, 2001 at 11 a.m. Rev. Jim Maxwell and Rev. Michael Trull will officiate. Burial will follow in Carrollton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. tonight, Monday, at Skelton Funeral Home of Reform. The body will lie in state 45 minutes prior to service. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform is directing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Noland; and daughter, Bobbie Ann Noland.
Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Mullins and husband, Gene, of Carrollton, AL; and Margaret Acker and husband, Billy, of Carrollton, AL. Son, Buddy Noland and wife, Hattie, of Carrolton, AL.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her special caregiver, Marie Peoples.
Mrs. Noland was a member of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church where she was active until she became disabled. She was a retired Nutritionist for the Pickens County Board of Education and a life long resident of Pickens County. Pallbearers will be Ken Acker, Mike Acker, Gerald Noland, Patrick Noland, Mark Noland, Darren Mullins, Randy Barnett, Bill McGee, and Shane Britt.
Larry Wayne "Cecil" Elrod
Larry Wayne "Cecil" Elrod, 52, of 807 Langdon Woods Road, died October 19, 2001 in Ethelsville, Ala. Services will be held at Ethelsville Baptist Church, Monday October 22, 2001 at 2 p.m. Rev. Jim Ray will officiate. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughter, Tracy Johnson and husband, Arnie, Columbus, Miss.; son, Justin Elrod and wife, Misty, Reform, Ala.; sister, Yuvone Bradshaw and husband, Charles, Ethelsville, Ala.; brothers, James Elrod and wife, Carolyn, Ethelsville, and Wayne Elrod, Ethelsville; grandchildren, Morgan, Maegan, Scott, and Jordan Johnson, and Justina Whitney Elrod.
Mr. Elrod was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church, a self employed Auto Body Technician and a life long resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Elrod, Josh Elrod, Greg McCafferty, Chuck Bradshaw, Paul Agerton, and Bobbie Pate. Honorary pallbearers are Dwight Fitch, Gary Golson, Tony Cowart, Jerry Fitch, and Herbert Latham.
Pauline Neighbors
TUSCALOOSA - Pauline Neighbors, age 96, of 1706 St. Andrews Drive, died October 18, 2001, at her residence. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
Pauline Neighbors was born in Moundville, June 18, 1905, the daughter of James E. and Laura Griffin Neighbors. Her grandfather, A. H. (Ship) Griffin was a founder of the city of Moundville. After graduating with a master’s degree from the University of Alabama, she spent 39 years in the teaching profession. The English wing of the new Tuscaloosa County High School was named in her honor to commemorate her 34 years of teaching there. Former grateful students made this possible.
Miss Neighbors belonged to many honorary professional organizations, including Kappa Delta Pi, Delta Kappa Gamma, NEA, AEA and Tuscaloosa County Teachers Association. After her retirement, she worked actively with Tuscaloosa Retired Teachers Association.
A member for many years of the Pilot Club of Tuscaloosa, she was twice president and held many other official positions.
As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa, she was very active in all church activities. For more than 30 years she taught in the youth department of the church Sunday School After leaving the youth department, she was a leader in the Amaranth Sunday School Class.
Miss Neighbors leaves a sister, Mrs. Mary Bennett; two nephews, Manly Neighbors, Jr. and James E. Neighbors of Connecticut; one niece, Mrs. Tina Hardenberg of Ohio; 12 grand and many great grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 20, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville. Visitation will be at the church in the Parker Room, an hour before the service.

Ms. Ozeller Whitehead, 80, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2001 at the Care Center in Vernon, AL. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Furnace Hill Cemetery.
Alon Lander Vickery
Alon Lander Vickery, 85, died Sunday, October 21, 2001. Services will be held at Miles Funeral Home Chapel today at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Miles Funeral Home of Winfield is directing.
Silas Smith
Silas Smith, 83, of 371 Silas Smith Road, died October 21, 2001 at his residence. Services will be held at New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, October 24, 2001 at 2 p.m. Rev. Arlo Peppers and Rev. Darren Pollard will officiate. Burial will follow in adjoining Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., tonight at Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Smith; son, Bennie Loyd Smith; five brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Ann Smith, Bankston; son, Dwight (Gail) Smith, Gulfport, Miss.; sister, Elise Tidwell, Winfield, Ala.; grandchildren, Shelia Smith and Shannon (Mary) Smith; great-granddaughter, Summer Smith.
Special thanks for care giver, Clara Shakleford, also Hospice Northwest Alabama, Fayette and Lamar Home Health Care. He was a WWII Army Veteran, recipient of the Purple Heart and Four Bronze Stars. He was married for 58 years and 11 months.
Cecil Wayne Skelton
Cecil Wayne Skelton, 85, died October 21, 2001 at his residence. Graveside services will be held at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Rev. Jimmy Walker and Rev. Billy Gray will officiate. Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Heritage Chapel.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ettleline Skelton.
Survivors include his son, Jerry W. Skelton, Cottondale; grandchildren, Christopher Skelton, and Susan Martin; great-granddaughter, Taylor Clifton, all of Cottondale; and several cousins.
Pallbearers will be Fred Skelton, John Skelton, Ronnie Hutchins, Charles Rushing, Lyle Rushing, and Terry Rushing.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. William Hill, Dr. Stephen Browne, Employees of Reichhold Chemical Incorporated, Donald and Shirley Thigpen.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be tonight from 4-7 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church. Sunset Funeral Home is directing.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Fredrick Rossi; sons, Dr. Fred Rossi, Jr. (Gail), Todd Rossi (Debra), Collins Rossi, and Clay Rossi (Elizabeth); sister, Nell Whitfield; grandchildren, Alexandra, Christan, Katherine, Nancy, Olivia, Isabelle, Fred III, and Joseph Rossi.
Julia was born in Mobile, AL., and received her Bachelors degree in Education in 1949 from The University of Alabama.

Katie Townsend Moore

Orland Johnson, and Rev. John Vaugan will officiate. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., Wednesday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Orman Moore; son, Jack Moore; and sister, Ruthie Mae Howell.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Powell (Charlie); son, Rayburn "Buddy" Moore (Jimmie); daughter-in-law, Nita Moore; sister, Jane Woolbright; grandchildren, Lisa Moore, Lori Pittman, April Trice, Michael Moore, Chuck Powell, Jason Moore, Shea Carmona, and Mitchell Moore; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Michael Moore, Chuck Powell, Jason Moore, Mitchell Moore, John Moore, Chuck Pittman, Jack Trice, and Gabe Carmona.
