Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2002 at Church of God of Prophecy with Bro. Ken Humphries and Bro. Leland Studdard officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation is tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Memory Chapel. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Vaughter Mae Thompson and Daddy John William Black, two sisters, Mary Ferguson, Pauline White, three brothers, Nelson Black, Clarence Black, Raymond Black.
Survivors include two sons, Tony and David Black, two daughters in law, Debra Black and Betty Black, one granddaughter, Savannah Black, three grandsons, Timothy Black, Micheal Black, Brandon Black, two great-granddaughters and three great grandsons, two
sisters, Geneva Fisher, Tuscaloosa; and Ruth Smith, Merched, Calif.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Black, Micheal Black, Brandon Black, Roger Fisher, Brian and Jason Anderson, Keith Hardmon, and Gene Price .

Jefferson Davis "J. D." Caples, Jr.
TUSCALOOSA - Jefferson Davis "J. D." Caples, Jr., age 81, died March 21, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home directing. Dr. Charles Durham and Rev. Kevin Cauley are officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, the former Elaine Johnston, two sons, Bruce D. Caples and Jeff D. Caples, III and his wife Marie, two granddaughters, Courtney Leigh Caples and Emily Catharine Caples, grandson, Richard Breitling Caples, and sister-in-law, Elsie Henry, all of Tuscaloosa.
Born in Reform, Mr. Caples grew up in Tuscaloosa. He was the son of Jefferson D. and Ollie M. Caples. He attended Gulf Coast Military Academy from 1936-1938 and the University of Alabama from 1939-1941.
He was self-employed in private real estate most of his life. He was also employed in the lumber business in the early 1940’s in Livingston. He owned and operated Gates Cleaners in Tuscaloosa for several years. He retired from the real estate business in 1997.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa. Honorary pallbearers are relatives, friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity.

Survivors include his spouse, Sandy, daughters, Kim (Jim) Buford, Tuscaloosa; Stephanie (Todd) Nodine, Tuscaloosa; sisters, Teresa (Ronnie) Coleman, Montgomery, Ala.; Regina (Ricky) Causey, Alpharetta, Ga.; brother, Larry (Rita) Moore, Tuscaloosa; parents, David and Margine (Jean) Moore, grandchildren, Abigail Buford, Chase Buford and Parker Nodine.
Mr. Moore was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and attended Montevallo and graduated from Shelton State. He was retired from the Tuscaloosa Fire Department and the U. S. Navy.
Pallbearers will be Jim Buford, Lamar Henson, Jeff Hoyle, Justin Hoyle, Tracy Hoyle and Todd Nodine.
Honorary pallbearers are Tuscaloosa Fire Dept and retirees, University of Alabama Golf Course employees and Marshals.
Webster Harris
TUSCALOOSA - Webster Harris, age 77, 5005 Old Montgomery Highway, #22, died March 20, 2002, in Tuscaloosa. Services will be held at Holly Spring Baptist Church, Saturday, March 23, 2002, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. W. E. Pitts officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Spring Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour before services. Visitation is Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Van Hoose and Steele Funeral Home is directing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Queen E. Harris (June, 2001) and his son, Moease Harris (October, 1979).
Survivors include son, Larry Harris (Ethel), Tuscaloosa; daughters, Sara Harris, Denver, Colo.; Althea Harris Foster (Bobby) and Sandra Harris Hardaway (Jimmy), Tuscaloosa; sisters, Elizabeth Gibson, Pearline H. Johnson, Josephine H. Turner, Ida H. Hobson and Georgene Harris; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

GORDO - Jo Ann Latham, age 68, of 1022 Dustryridge Road, died March 20, 2002, at Pickens County Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. today, Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Graham and Rev. Hank Hollis officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to service.
Survivors include her husband, David Houston Latham of Gordo; son, Gary (Block) Latham and wife, Linda, of Gordo; sisters, Lorene Hitt of Tuscaloosa; brothers, John R. Shepherd of Northport and Milly Shepherd of Amory, Miss.; step-grandchildren, Rachel, Lisa, Gene and Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Randy, Waylon, Andy, Jerrett, Brittney and Zachary and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Latham was born in Pickens County on January 4, 1934, to the "late" Oscar Earl Shepherd and Nannie Maudine Langdon Shepherd. She was a member of Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church, a homemaker and a life long resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard S. Johnson and Viola Johnson and grandson, Brad Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Faye Johnson; daughters, Christy Cook of Coker and Ann Taylor (David) of Coker; sons, George Johnson of Gordo, William G. Johnson (Kathy) of Coker and Wayne Johnson (Darcy) of Northport; brothers, Fred Johnson (Hildred) of Northport and Joe Johnson (Sarah) of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

KENNEDY - James Leon Carroll, 90 of 1564 Co. Rd. 2, died March 29, 2002 at Fayette Medical Center. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. today at Ashcraft Corner Baptist Church with Rev. Marshall Sutton and Rev. Billy Carl Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in the Adjoining Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Asbic Adell Carroll; his parents, Epsie Champion Carroll and James Leroy Carroll, three brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include his sons, Ralph (Ruth) Carroll, Jerry (Mildred) Carroll, Both of Kennedy, James (Betty) Carroll, Alabaster; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was a member of Ashcraft Corner Baptist Church from 1926 until his death. He and his wife were very active in the church until their health failed. He took great pride in the care of the Ashcraft Corner Memorial Cemetery and was active in establishing a fund for it’s perpetual care.
