Joseph Savoy Harrell
COTTONDALE - Joseph Savoy Harrell, 87, died March 30, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Ervin Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie M. Lambert; Sons, Edwin D "Danny" Harrell, Cottondale and James "Jim" E. Harrell, Vicksburg, Miss.; sisters, Jetta Pace, Virginia Beach, Va., sister-in-law, Nettie Harrell, Tuscaloosa; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Born March 16, 1915 in Blakley, Ga. Served with the U.S. Army 36th Division during WWII. He was in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was under the command of Gen. George Patton and was wounded in the battle for Mote Casino for which he received the purple heart. He was retired from Gulf States Paper Corporation. He was a member of Alberta Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Jeff D. Harrell, J. David Harrell, Keith D. Harrell, Joseph Samual Harrell, Julie Harrell Bebawy and Jill M. Harrell.
Honorary pallbearers are former employees of Gulf States paper Mill.

TUSCALOOSA - Jacques Mayeux Veillon, age 4 1/2 months, of 3915 Versailles Lane, died April 1, 2002, at his residence. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Chapel of Sunset Funeral Home with Phil Hardin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park in Babyland with Sunset Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.
Survivors include a sister, Camille Nicole Veillon; brother, Vaughan Christian Veillon; parents, Bernard and Monique Veillon; grandparents Don and Barbara Mayeux of Eunice, La., Berk Veillon of Atlanta, Ga., and Ching Veillon of Eunice La.
Pallbearers will be Todd G. Miller, John Slater, Craig Sauviac, Robbie LeJeune, Kyle Marienneaux and Vince Veillon.

Kathleen M. Jowers
LINDEN - Kathleen M. Jowers, 85, of 608 North Main Street, died March 31, 2002 at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital. Services will be held at Linden Baptist Church, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Dr. Randy Creel and Rev. W.J. Cannon, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Aimwell Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home. O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home is directing.
Survivors include her son, Larry (Shirley) Jowers, Linden,; daughter, Sandra (James) Creel, Linden; grandsons, Larry Jowers, Jr., Livingston, and Randy Creel, Chattanooga, Tenn; granddaughters, Amy Spradlin, Tuscaloosa, Kay Jowers, Linden, and Tammy Freeman, Linden; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jowers was a member of Linden Baptist Church in Linden, Alabama.
John Baka
TUSCALOOSA - John Baka, 83, died April 1, 2002 at DCH Regional Center in Tuscaloosa. Services will be held at Englewood Baptist Church, Wednesday at 11 a.m. Rev. Bill Richards, Rev. Dewey Thomas, and Rev. Cliff Paterson will officiate. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Memory Chapel. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.
He is preceded in death by his son, Charles Baka.
Survivors include his wife, Magdaline Baka; granddaughters, Tracy Hall (Jeff), and April Armstrong (Jason); four great-grandchildren: Samantha Hall, Tia Hall, Amberlee Armstrong, and Jacob Armstrong, II.
Mr. Baka was a WWII Veteran-Staff Sgt. He served in the Army as Q.M Supply Technician in Miami, Fla. and Camp Kilner, New Jersey and medical technician. He retired from B.F. Goodrich after 32 years. He loved his church, pastor, and church family.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Grammer, David Grammer, Breland McCool, David Deese, Roy Chatam, and Jack King.

Marg was born a Philanthropist, she understood clearly her God given assignment was to help other people. Marg’s life was a ministry, she preached her own funeral and the church lived in her heart. She will be missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Anderson Paige; father, Neal Paige and daughter, Alice "Cutie" Cole.
Survivors include daughters, Ms. Brenda J. Lyles, Mrs. Shirley (Eddie) Thomas, Mrs. Wanda (Danny) Clark, Ms. Sylvia M. Robert Bruce Ross
TUSCALOOSA - Robert Bruce Ross, age 84, of 2501 Veterans Memorial Parkway, died March 22, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held Tuesday, March 26th, at 10:00 a.m. from Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Sam Haun officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery. He is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Mary Waller Ross, and sister, Betty Vincent.
Survivors include daughter, April Ross Lane (Ralph), Tuscaloosa; son, Robert Bruce Ross, Jr. (Janine), Warland, Wyo.; sister, Gwendolyn Ross, Tubac, Ariz.; grandchildren, Rob, Jared, Mary Katherine, and Paul Lane, of Tuscaloosa; Colin Ross, Everett, Wash.; Cole Ross, Bloomington, Ind.; and special friend, Carole Harkins, Tuscaloosa.
Born August 17, 1917 in Spokane, WA, Bruce Ross grew up on the west coast and graduated from Linfield College in McMinville, OR. He was commissioned the day before Pearl Harbor and served as an Army Air Corp navigator and radar bombardier during WWII. In 1947, he married a poet, Mary Waller. It was a loving relationship which grew in mutual devotion throughout their 37 years together before her death in 1985. Bruce moved to the Washington, D. C. area in 1951 where he was employed by the Department of Commerce as a meteorologist and served in the Air Force Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Bruce moved to Tuscaloosa in 1991 and was active until his death in caring for his Alabama family. He was a central and loving influence for his six grandchildren, those living close and those further away. He graced all who knew him with his smile and eternally giving nature.
Honorary pallbearers are bridge friends, DCH Cancer Treatment Center staff and volunteers, DCH MICU staff, especially Charlotte, Charlene, Shelba and "Sugar".

Minnie Lee Williams
ETHELSVILLE - Minnie Lee Williams, age 86, of 1700 St. Johns Road, died March 23, 2002 at Pickens County Medical Center. Services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. from Ethelsville Baptist Church with Rev. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will follow in Ethelsville Community Cemetery. She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl T. Williams, son, Ben Thomas Williams, and grandson, Timothy Scott Williams.

Jaynes, Ethelsville, Ala.; half-brother, Edgar Jaynes, Columbus, Miss.; half-sisters, Paralee Tilley, Ethelsville, Ala.; Gracie Lee Saberson and Virginia Mahoney, both of Columbus, Miss.; grandchildren, Ben Alan Williams, Huntsville, Ala.; Jason Brownlee, Richland, Miss.; and Craig Brownlee, Temple, Tx.; great-grandchildren, Zachary Taylor Williams and Jennifer Lynn Williams, both of Madison, Ala.; and Amber Brownlee of Temple, Tx.
Mrs. Williams was born in Pickens County, Alabama on September 20, 1915 to Thomas Henry Jaynes and Fannie Dossie St. John Jaynes. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Free Will Baptist Church, a homemaker and a life long resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Jaynes, Allen Jaynes, Danny Malone, Larry Jaynes, Charles West and Cecil Berry.
