MOUNDVILLE - Marie Abernathy, died May 28, 2002 at her residence. Arrangements will be announced later by Oakhill Funeral Home.

Frances Wright Anderson

FAYETTE - Frances Wright Anderson, 84, died Sunday, May 26, 2002. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. today at Fayette First Free Will Baptist Church and will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will follow in Pisgah Cemetery at Carbon Hill. Miles Funeral Home is directing.

Survivors include sons, Billy Ray (Judy) Anderson, Fayette and Rick (Karen) Anderson, Philadelphia, Pa.; daughters, Bernice (Wayne) Gilliam, Ann (William) Fowler and Brenda (Kenneth) Bobo, all of Fayette, Virginia (Steve) Byars, New Bern, NC. And Eunice (James) Kirkland, Carrollton, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several great- great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lillie B. Chavers

SAWYERVILLE - Lillie B. Chavers, age 86, of 3256 County Road 17, died May 25, 2002, at her residence. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, New Hope Baptist Church. Rev. S. L. Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Evans Cemetery with Washington-Paige-Rollins' Mortuary of Green sboro directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Emily Hayes Davis

TUSCALOOSA - Emily Hayes Davis, 59 of 133 31st Street, died May 28, 2002 at her residence. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Evergreen City Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her father, Clayton Hayes.

Survivors include her Husband, Aubrey E. Davis; daughters Mary Emily Tinney (Steve) of Franklin, Tenn., Jo Anne Miller (Bobby) of Northport; son, Aubrey E. Davis Jr. of Jacksonville, Ala.; sister, Hayes Smith of Tuscaloosa; mother Ione Hayes of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Tyler Tinney, Emily Anne Tinney and Davis Miller; Lydia Davis, Mother-in-law, Tuscaloosa, Jenny Roberts (Tommy) Sister-in-law of Lilburn, Ga.

Special thanks to family friends and caregivers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama, First Presbyterian Church. ALS Foundation.

William T. Wright

VERNON - William T. Wright, age 71, died May 28, 2002 at Fayette Medical Center. Services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. from Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Lamar Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Chandler Funeral Home is directing.

Samuel R. Stokes

CUBA - Samuel R. Stokes, age 69, of 811 Sumter 27, died May 29, 2002 at his residence. Services will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. from Cuba Church of God Holiness. Burial will follow in Clay Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the church. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis is directing.

Sue Dalton Turner

TUSCALOOSA - Miss. Sue Dalton Turner, of 317D Cedar Square Apartments in Tuscaloosa, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at La Rocca Nursing Home at the age of 88. She was born in Tuscaloosa on January 9, 1914 to Betty Hays and C. Brittin Turner, Jr. They were in an early Tuscaloosa family descended from Joseph Pittman Turner and wife, Mary Walker Brittin who built the home standing at 621 Queen City Avenue in 1840. Her Parents, her oldest sister Rose Wallace Coleman and husband Jeff, nephew Jeff Coleman, Jr., and brother-in-law Austin W. Lee predeceased her.

She is survived by a brother C. Brittin Turner III and wife Sara, sisters Ann Turner Bealle and Husband Rufus, Betty Turner Lee, and Martha Turner Seals and Husband Patton; nieces and nephews Brittin Turner Coleman and wife Jane, Jimmie Coleman, Widow of Jeff Coleman Jr., Leska Turner Graves and husband Phil, C. Brittin Turner IV and wife Fran, John R. Bealle III and wife Eloise, Sally Bealle Moore and Husband Richard, Betty Brittin Lee Yates and husband Ray, Frances Lee Vogel and husband Greg, Mary Beth Seals Dennis and husband Alan, Susan Ruth Seals Warden and husband Hank, and several great nieces and nephews.

Miss Turner was employed for 42 years at the Alabama Power Company, Tuscaloosa District, from 1935 to 1977. She was active in the social and civic life of Tuscaloosa and was a member of the Arts and Letters Club, and of the First Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member for 70 years. She was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School in 1932 and attended The University of Alabama Where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and of the University Glee Club.

Dr. Charles M. Durham, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church and Associate Pastor Kevin T. Cauley will conduct a memorial service in the Westervelt Warner Chapel on Thursday, May 30th at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, the family will receive friends in Warner Hall at the Church. Family internment at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park will precede the memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.

Pallbearers will be Alan Dennis, William Dennis, Britt Turner IV, Hank Warden, Britt Coleman, Richard Moore, Greg Vogel and John Bealle III. Honorary pallbearer is Mrs. Evelyn Hardy.

Henry R. Spree

DENTON - Henry R. Spree, 79, of Denton passed away May 26, 2002 in Good Samaritan Village Nursing Home, in Denton. Mr. Spree was born March 12, 1923 in Cornwall N. Y. to Harry Albert and Amelia Ortel Spree. His family moved to Tuscaloosa, AL., where he resided until 1998.

During WWII, Mr. Spree served in the U. S. Army 36th Infantry Division, Texas "T" Patchers in Italy. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and the Episcopal Church.

Funeral services were held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at The Episcopal Church of The Annunciation, the Rev. David W. Holland officiated. Interment with full military honors followed in DFW National Cemetery at 3:00 P.M.

He is survived by daughter, Kennon Moffitt of Double Oak; son, Robert Thetford Spree of Boligee, Ala.; and four grandchildren.

Family visitation was Tuesday evening at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home.

Family request memorials be made to St. Paul University Hospital Foundation, 5909 Harry Hines, Dallas, 75235 or to Good Samaritan Village, 2500 Hinkle Dr., Denton, TX 76201.

Alice S. McCrory

DEMOPOLIS - Alice S. McCrory, age 98, of 323 Park Street, died May 28, 2002 at her residence. Graveside services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Demopolis Memorial Gardens. Dr. Art Luckie and Rev. Don Smith will officiate. Visitation is today from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Kidd-Robbins Chapel. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Pugh McCrory, and son, Jimmy McCrory.

Survivors include son, Milton (Mary Jane) McCrory, Demopolis; sister, Maggie Sheridan, Prattville; a very special friend, Virginia Hall, eight grandchildren, Thomas Mark McCrory, Terrie M. Watson, James W. McCrory, Greg King, Johnny King, Donna Ford, Phillip King, and Dale King, all of Demopolis; and five great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Sumter County Alabama and a resident of Demopolis, Alabama for many years. She was a special person to all of her family and everybody who knew her. She always had a smile and said something that would help you in any type situation. She was a longtime member of The First United Methodist Church and Friendship Club. She was also a member of Belmont Methodist Church.

Thomas M. Fincher

TUSCALOOSA - Thomas M. Fincher, 69, Tuscaloosa, died May 28, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Military Graveside Rites will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Bro. Richard Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing.

He is preceded in death by wife Dolores Fincher.

Survivors include his daughter, Susie Bosch (Jimmy), Norhtport; a son, Timmy Fincher (Alene) Olive Branch, Miss.; brothers, Billy Fincher (Smitty) Eutaw, Ala, John Fincher (Martha), Tuscaloosa, Jimmy Fincher (Gayle) Eutaw, Ala.; grandchildren, Christy Atchenson of Tuscaloosa, Clay Bosch, Northport, Ashley Fincher, Chris Fincher and Kimberly Fincher all of Olive Branch, Miss.; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Dallas Atchenson of Tuscaloosa.

Mr. Fincher was a Veteran of the Korean War, a life long electrician and a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Northport.

Active pallbearers will be Clay Bosch, Joe Leatherwood, Bob Wilson, Jimmy Bosch, Burgess Pate, Bradley Atchenson.

Honorary pallbearers are the staff of 4th floor DCH Regional Medical Center, Dr. Richard Gurich, Dr. Dirk Berry, Employees and friends at the Waysider Restaurant, Employees and friends of Buddy’s Steak House.

Ida O. Brown

NORTHPORT - Ida O. Brown, died May 28, 2002 at Carraway UAB Medical West. Services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. from First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park. Visitation is today from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service. Van Hoose and Steele Funeral Home is directing.

James Kingsberry Kinkead III (Jimmy)

TUSCALOOSA - James Kingsberry Kinkead III (Jimmy), 51, died May 28th at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday May 30th at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, with graveside services following at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Rev. Duncan Hunter and Rev. Ken Dunivant will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 3 p.m. at Heritage Chapel.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James K. Kinkead, Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Guin P. Morrison.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James K. Kinkead, sister, Patti K. Crane (Alan), nephew, Adam Crane, cousin, Sharlene Dowling and sons, Lawson and David Dowling, and dear friend, Teresa H. Mills and her daughters, Laura Mills and Lindsey Mills.

Mr. Kinkead was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and the University of Alabama. Jimmy was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was the first Acolyte. Jimmy was also a member of Chevy 6, where he had been the keyboard player for 23 years. He served in the Drum Core with the Tuscaloosa High School Band. Jimmy was a Partner in Ace Fire Extinguishers and a member of the Tuscaloosa Business Exchange. He was an avid hunter, outdoor sportsman and runner. Jimmy was a friend to everyone who knew him and was a loving son and brother.

In remembrance of Jimmy’s many friendships, all who loved him are recognized as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donation be made to the Fanny Mae Lee Bible Conference of First United Methodist Church, Nick’s Kids for Underprivileged Children and The Care Team of First United Methodist Church.

Myrtis Payne Holston

NORTHPORT - Myrtis Payne Holston, 90, left this earthly life and went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 29, 2002 at Heritage Health Care Center. Services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Hebron Baptist Church, Akron, AL with burial in the church cemetery to follow. Rev. Jack Sharbutt and Rev. Gene Griffin will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clivie Holston.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Bettie and David McCray of Northport; granddaughter, Glenda of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Melanie, special niece, Bobbie Day, sisters, Etoy Sealy, Mildred Womack, Lucille Kitchens, and brother, Glenn Payne. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephew, friends, relatives, and special church friends.

Pallbearers will be Philip Day, Tim Day, Wade Cook, Mike Strickland, George Weeks, Mack Glover, Charles Kitchens and Roy Sealy.

Memorial gifts may be made to Northport Baptist Church-Sharing the Vision, 1004 Main Ave., Northport or Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Akron, AL.
