Thomas Bascom Wheat

REFORM - Thomas Bascom Wheat, 86, 206 5th Ave. NE, died July 28, 2002 at his daughter's residence in Butler, Ala. Services will be held 2:00 p.m.

Tuesday at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brannon Pinion officiating. Burial will follow in West Alabama Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on hour prior to the service. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform is directing.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Bess Wheat; sisters, Lula Mae Loftis, O'Phenie Rynolds; brothers, Walter and Claudie Wheat; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tanie E. Wheat.

Survivors include daughters, Jennifer Norstedt and Husband Mark of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Billie Gilliland and Husband Samuel L. "Chuck" of Butler, Ala.; sons, Jamie Ashe and wife Darlene of Bellamy, Ala. and David Ashe and wife Patsy of Opp, Ala.; sisters, Dot Strawn of Aliceville, Ala. and Eulene Carr of Columbus, Miss.; four grandchildren, Michael Ashe, Heath Ashe, Tara Ashe and Ashley Anna Norstedt.

Mr. Wheat was a retired World War II Veteran. He Served his country for 25 years in the United States Army. He received several conduct medals for his outstanding service to his country. He fondly remembered his most honored duties of service to General Omar Bradly, General Thos Handy and General Dwight Eisenhower.

Pallbearers will be Dick Wheat, Hulley Wheat, Stan Strawn, Larry Strawn, Rayburn Carroll, Ross Carr, Michael Ashe and Heath Ashe.

Honorary pallbearers are former members of the Reform Domino Den, Dr. Lee Richardson and Staff of the Reform Medical Clinic and the West Alabama Beagle Club.

Cleo Bryant

TUSCALOOSA - Cleo Bryant, died July 26, 2002 at her residence. Arrangements will be announced later by Wills' Funeral Service.

James Ira Patrick

BELFAIR, Wash. - James Ira Patrick, 68 of 120 East Odessa Place, died July 23, 2002 at his residence. Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. today with Rev Pete Hicks officiating, Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery with full military honors. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis is directing, He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Kathleen Patrick; parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Patrick; brother, Wilford Patrick; sister, Maxine Hayes.

Survivors include daughters, Kathleen Needham, Lexington Ky. and Laurie Shinners, Belfair Wash.; three sons, James I. Patrick, Jr., Stafford, Va., Scott Patrick and Michael Patrick both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; three sisters, Mary Sealy, Uniontown, Francis Dunn, Jasper and Betty Ann Kelley, Selma; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was born in Arlington, Ala. and was a resident of Belfair Washington. He was retired from the U.S Navy for 23 years as a SR-1. He won several medals while in the service, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.

Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Sealy, Jim Sealy, Bill Robison, Phil Robison, Charles C. Ray and Barney Needham.

Edrelle Byars Dillard

SUMITON - Edrelle Byars Dillard, 77, died July 26, 2002. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Old Union Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. Miles Funeral Home of Winfield is directing.

John P. Mills

BUHL - John P. Mills, 72, of Buhl died July 28, 2002, at his residence.

Arrangements will be announced later by Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home.

Fannie S. Beard

BERRY - Fannie S. Beard, 90 of 11796 Cripple Creek Road, died July 26, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Oregonia Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home, North is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie J. Beard; a son, Walter Lee Beard.

Survivors include her daughters, Pauline Logan of Berry, Ala. and Carolyn Watson of Tuscaloosa Ala.; a son, Roy Beard of Berry, Ala.; a sister, Myrtle Essary of Anniston, Ala.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Active pallbearers will be, Dewey Brock, Reggie Beard, Ricky Beard, Steven Watson, Johnny Wade and Jesse Green .

Honorary pallbearers are Friends and Neighbors.

Earnest Northington

SULLIGENT - Earnest Northington, age 76, of Sulligent, Ala. passed away Saturday July 27, 2002 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Monday July 29, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Freewill Baptist Church with burial in the Sulligent City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the First Freewill Baptist Church after 6:00 p.m. tonight. Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent is directing.

Olivia Smith Wilson

TUSCALOOSA - Olivia Smith Wilson, 75, died July 28, 2002 at Heritage Health Care Center. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Dockery and Rev. Paul Peoples officiating.

Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation is one hour prior to service. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by he husband, Mack F. Wilson; parents, Joe and Lula Smith; sister, Beatrice Griffin; brothers, Buddy Smith and Billy Smith.

Survivors include a son, Marty Smith Wilson (Lyndall) of Cottondale; sisters, Vivian Williams of Tuscaloosa; Maxie Curb of Green sboro and Hazel Terry of Moundville; sisters-in- law, Annie Ruth Smith, Nettie Grace Smith, Tina Wilson and Lizzie Mae Wilson; grandchild, Loren O'Neil Elmore of Cottondale; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Williams, Bill Terry, Tim Smith, Randall Curb, Larry Tidmore, Jason Smith, Joey Smithson and Reginald Hoggle.

Honorary pallbearers are Nursing Staff at Heritage Health Care, neighbors of Stein Place and members of Temple Baptist Church.

Howard Ray

JACKSON, Miss. - Howard Ray, age 78 of Jackson, Miss., formerly of Sulligent, Ala., passed away Friday July 26, 2002 in Jackson. Funeral Services will be held today at 2:00 p.m. at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel of Sulligent with burial in the Pleasant Grove (Bartahatchie Community) Cemetery. Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent.

Clarence Maddox

BANKSTON - Clarence Maddox, 81, died July 27, 2002 at Fayette Medical Center. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. Nelson Funeral Home is directing.

Betty Louise Shirley Hall

NORTHPORT - Betty Louise Shirley Hall, 70, died July 26, 2002 at Glen Haven Nursing Home. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. today at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her father, Robert L. Shirley; mother, Cora Ann Shirley; brothers, Millard and Dotice and a sister, Imogene Erwin.

Survivors include daughters, Pamela McKeever (John), Birmingham and Pandora Albright (Jeffrey), Cottondale; son, Jimmy Lee Martin, Maryville, Tenn.; sister, Vera Woods, Tuscaloosa; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Albright, John McKeever, Lonnie Garner and Kevin Garner.

NORTHPORT - Thomas R. Putman, age 75, passed away July 29, 2002. He was a retired welder and a World War II Army Veteran. Services will be on Wednesday July 31, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. tonight. He is survived by his wife Jessie Putman, sons Edwin C. Putman of Birmingham and Ronald R. and wife Darlene Putman of Northport, sisters, Jean Anderson of Tyler, Texas, and Jeanette Sadler of Atlanta, brothers, Neal Putman of Whittier, Ca., Auburn Putman of Birmingham, grandchildren Kim and Husband Greg Barnett, Scott Putman, great-grandchildren Christian Barnett and Hayden Barnett. Brown Service Bessemer directing.

Willie C. Green

WEST BLOCTON - Willie C. Green , 98, died July 27, 2002 at her residence.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George W. Green ; sons, G.W. Green and Carl Green ; daughter, Bonnie Fay Christain.

Survivors include daughters, Dorothy Guy, Bessemer, Florence Turner, Cottondale; sons, James Green , Cottondale, Sam Green (Shirley), Northport, W.C. Green (Barbara), McCalla and Larry Green (Betty), Brookwood; 38 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Green , Dewayne Green , Brian Green , David Green , Curtis Turner and Josh Cook.

Honorary pallbearers are caregiver, Janice Woods and family.
