Earnest Northington
SULLIGENT - Mr. Earnest Northington, age 76, passed away Saturday July 27, 2002 at the residence. Funeral Services were held Monday July 29, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Sulligent First Freewill Baptist Church with burial in the Sulligent City Cemetery. Bro. Dwayne Hammontree, Bro. Edward Puckett, and Bro. James Walden officiated. Otts Funeral Home in Sulligent directed.
Active pallbearers were Jessie Barnes, Luke Spruiell, Clark Northington, Frank Mixon, John Boyett, and Richard Jaggers.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Dale Spruiell, Ted Boyett, Mike Lucas, Fred Graham, David Davis, Harvey Bradford, Earl Tedford, Marshall Cook, Mike Garrison, Carol Thompson, Hezzie Harrison, Adult Sunday School Class, Former Employees of Northington Snacks in Columbus, Miss.
Mr. Northington was born September 9, 1925 in Marion County, Ala. to the late Clay and Effie Minor Northington. He served in WWII while in the U.S. Army. Mr. Northington was associated with Tom’s Foods for 52 years, having been the owner of Northington Snacks since 1973. He was a Deacon at the Sulligent First Freewill Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion Post 32 and the VFW, was also previously a member of the Sulligent City Council, and was on the Advisory Board at the First State Bank.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Clyde Northington.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Oglesby Northington of Sulligent; sons, Farrell (Wanda) Northington, Larry (Sue) Northington, and Carl (Karen) Northington all of Sulligent; daughter, Janice (Dale) McGee of Vernon; sisters, Avis (Dewey) Manzer of Sulligent, Anne (Don) Rappe of Okolona, Miss., and Wilma (Edward) Williams of Armory, Miss.; brother, Clark Northington of Vernon; grandchildren, Chris Northington, Chastity Northington (Carl) Murff, Brandy McGee (J.J.) Brown, Ryan McGee, Josh Northington, Shea Northington (Tony) Lamoureux, Kayla Northington, and Britni Northington; three step grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
William Deal Jamison III
TUSCALOOSA - William Deal Jamison III, 20, died July 27, 2002. A memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church with Dr.
Charles Durham and Rev. Kevin Cauley. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation will be after the service at the church. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Marion Alma Jamison and grandfather Jonas Snow Woodruff.
Survivors include sisters, Susie Jamison Duncan (Jimmy) and Katherine Snow Jamison; parents, William D. and Joan Jamison, Jr.; grandparent, William D. Jamison, Sr.; niece, Mary Price Duncan.
Pallbearers will be cousins, Robert Jamison, Cochrane Jamison, Lole Jamison, Thornton Jamison, Almon Jamison, John Howard, Jamison Howard, Conner Woodruff, Chad Woodruff and Brett Wilkin.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, current and former students of Tuscaloosa Academy and current and former members of Tuscaloosa Academy Golf Team.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church Pre School Scholarship Fund of First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

EUTAW - Iva May Stewart Hines, 92, of Route 3 Box 254-A, formerly of Fayette, died July 27, 2002 at her residence. Services will be held at Norwood Chapel today at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at Norwood Chapel. Norwood Chapel is directing.

TUSCALOOSA - George H. Thompson, Jr., 87, of 2300 5th Avenue East, died July 28, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Northport. Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pail United Methodist Church with Rev. Steven B. Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Druid Funeral Service is directing.
Survivors include his sisters, Irma Simmons and Mildred Eskinde of New Orleans, Louisiana, sister-in-law, Juanita Thompson of Tuscaloosa, one daughter, Devorelyn Kerr of Tewksbury, MA.
Mr. Thompson was a World War II Veteran.

TUSCALOOSA - LaVerne L. Hickey, 55, died July 26, 2002 in West Memphis, Arkansas. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday July 31, 2002 at the Selby Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah, IA. Family visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. tonight, July 30, 2002 at the Chapel. Reverend Roger Madden will be officiating. A Memorial Service for local friends will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Chapel Hill Baptist Church on Highway 43 in Northport. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, IA.
Dr. Joseph F. Metcalf
MOBILE - Dr. Joseph F. Metcalf, died July 27, 2002 in Mobile, Ala. Graveside services will be held Wednesday in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park at 10 a.m. Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Metcalf of Mobile; son, David J. Metcalf of Tallahassee; daughter-in-law, Lee K. Metcalf of Tallahassee; granddaughters, Kathryn and Laura Metcalf of Tallahassee; brother, Ernest M. Metcalf of Tuscaloosa.
Dr. Metcalf was born in Jackson, Mississippi on March 15, 1928. He was a long time resident of Tuscaloosa, Tallahassee, and Mobile. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. He graduated from the University of Alabama; PhD from Florida State University in Molecular Biochemistry. Medical Researcher and University Professor, author of numerous publications and internationally recognized for his research in sensory studies and the prevention of blindness through treatment of diseases of the eye. Conducted research and taught medical and graduate students at the University of Florida, University of California at Berkeley, University of California at San Francisco and University of South Alabama. He was an avid aerial and outdoor photographer and certified private pilot.

TUSCALOOSA - Willie "Harry Man" Harris, age 51, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed on July 26, 2002 at his residence. BELFAIR, WA - James Ira Patrick, 68, of 120 East Odessa Place, died July 23, 2002 at his residence. Graveside services were held 3:00 p.m., July 29, 2002. Rev. Pete Hicks officiated. Burial followed in Rosemont Cemetery with full military honors. Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors of Demopolis directed.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Kathleen Patrick; parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Patrick; brother, Wilford Patrick; sister, Maxine Hayes.
Survivors include daughters, Kathleen Needham, Lexington Ky. and Laurie Shinners, Belfair Wash.; three sons, James I. Patrick, Jr., Stafford, Va., Scott Patrick and Michael Patrick both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; three sisters, Mary Sealy, Uniontown, Francis Dunn, Jasper and Betty Ann Kelley, Selma; eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was born in Arlington, Ala. and was a resident of Belfair Washington. He was retired from the U.S Navy for 23 years as a SK-1. He won several medals while in the service, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Champaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Sealy, Jim Sealy, Bill Robison, Phil Robison, Charles C. Ray and Barney Needham.
