TUSCALOOSA - Willie "Harry Man" Harris, age 51, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed on July 26, 2002 at his residence. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 1, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Bailey Tabernacle CME Church, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Dr. W.C. Jones, officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Oak Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The remains will repose at the church beginning at 1 p.m. Van Hoose and Steele Funeral Home is directing.

Survivors include spouse, Lillie Harris, daughters; Dia Cosby (Jerry), Tomika Rainey (John), son; Brian Vickerstaff all of Tuscaloosa, AL; mother, Bettie Ann Harris (Until the Lord called her home) of Tuscaloosa, AL; father, Daniel Lyles (Andrea) of Cleveland, OH; step-father, Roosevelt Thomas, Sr.; sisters, Phyllis Harris (Isaiah) of Chicago, IL, Brenda Webster, Alicia Jackson (Fletcher) and Lynette Rice (Cleveland) all of Tuscaloosa, AL, Marilyn Gilleylen (Laroy), Lena D. Echols, both of Clevland, OH, Georgia Hay (John) of Hopewell, VA., and Carline Thomas of Atlanta, GA., brothers, Fredrick Harris (Flendora), Curtis Harris (Vannessa), Roosevelt Harris (Teresa), Joey Simmons (Denita), and Stanley Simmons all of Tuscaloosa, AL, Michael Lyles, Kenneth Lyles (Carmen), both of Clevland, OH, Theodore Robertson of Roosevelt City, AL, and Sanders Thomas of Huntsville, AL.; five grandchildren, Alexus Harris, Asten, Alyssia, and Austen Cosby, Morgan Rainey; And a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Rebella Ruth "Bell" Thomas

HOLT - Rebella Ruth "Bell" Thomas, formerly of Holt, died July 24, 2002 in Detroit, Mich. Services will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church, Thursday August 1, 2002 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Rice Valley Cemetery in Northport. Cahaba Memorial Funeral Chapel of Brent is directing.

Alice Knight

DETROIT - Mrs. Alice Knight, 54, of Detroit, Ala., passed away Monday July 29, 2002 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Funeral Services will be today July 31, 2002 at 2 p.m. at The Wesley Chapel Methodist Church (Co. Rd. #8 off Hwy. 17 So. of Detroit) with burial in the Carter Cemetery. Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent is directing.

Kathy O’Mary McAfee

ARMORY, MISS. - Mrs. Kathy O’Mary McAfee, 45, passed away Sunday night July 28, 2002 in Monroe Co., Miss. due to an automobile accident. Funeral Services will be Thursday August 1, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Apostolic Church in Armory, Miss. with burial in Wofford Cemetery near Vernon, Ala. The visitation will be tonight at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent is directing.

Martha Denise Stephens

TUSCALOOSA - Martha Denise Stephens, age 42, died July 30, 2002, at her residence. Services will be held Friday, 2 p.m. at Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Rev. David Howell officiating. Burial will be in Memory Hill Gardens. Visitation is tonight from 7-9 at the funeral home.

She is preceded in death by her father, Billy G. Stephens, Sr.; grandfather, Burton L. Madden; grandmother, Myrtle Madden, also grandfather, Emiel Britain and grandmother, Irene Britain.

Survivors include Sammy Tucker; daughter, Michelle Bigham (Chris); son, Charles Hutchinson; grandson, Christopher Bigham; granddaughter, Kaydie Bigham; sisters, Tina Kelly (Dennis) of Buhl, Pam Posey (Larry) of Gordo; brothers, Billy G. Stephens Jr. (Debra) of Coaling, Jack B. Stephens (Kay) of Coker, Bert Stephens of Tuscaloosa; mother, Martha Jean Stephens, other dear friends, Wayne and Ann Scoggins.

Active pallbearers will be Ronald Guy, Donald Guy, Paul Deason, Billy Ray Hewitt, Michael Keller and Doug Ellegood.

Honorary pallbearers are: Jim Livingston, Tammie Smithson, Tim Baker, Darlene Allen, Janie Pugh, Janie Aeyers, friends and customers of Sipsey Valley Supply.

Martha Denise Stephens

TUSCALOOSA - Martha Denise Stephens, 42, of 2817 Valley Crest Road, died July 30, 2002 at her residence. Complete arrangements will be announced later by Memory Chapel Funeral Home.

Sue Ray Stabler

ALICEVILLE - Sue Ray Stabler, age 85, 415 1st Street, N.E., died July 30, 2002, at Sansing Country Home. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, First Baptist Church of Aliceville with Rev. P. Joe White and Rev. Jim Cooley officiating. Burial will follow in Franconia Oak Grove Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Gerald Wayne Stabler, a former mayor of Aliceville and Pickens County Funeral director; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Franklin Ray of Montevallo; sisters, Louise Griffith of Tifton, Ga. and infant granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Smelko

Survivors include daughters, Charlotte S. Conrad (Wayne) of Dothan and Barbara S. McCool (Bob) of Pell City; sister, Carolyn Penix of Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren, Robin S. Funderburk and Barbara Daniels, both of Dothan, Susan S. Schmitt of Atlanta, Ga., Karen S. Boyle of Grapevine, Texas and John A. Smelko of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren, Gerald Stabler Clements of Dothan, Lauren, Rachel and David Boyle, all of Grapevine, Texas; and niece, Carol Swenson of Sacramento Calif.

Sue was born August 2, 1916, in Blue Springs, Ala., in Barbour County, the second of three daughters, and came to Aliceville to make her home in 1936 after her marriage to Gerald Stabler on April 30, 1935. "Miss Sue", as she was affectionately known, was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Aliceville. She was active in various clubs and organizations, having held the office of President of the S.W. Hood Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and also The Arts Club. As American Heritage Chairman of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she won the State Award for five consecutive years for her articles based on her research of historical homes, sites, and people from Pickens County’s past. She was especially instrumental in helping to organize the 1989 P.O.W. Reunion which ultimately led to a second German-American Reunion in 1991 and the establishment of the Aliceville Museum and Cultural Arts Center. Because of her initial efforts in 1989, Sue Stabler Park was created on the old P.O.W. camp site for which she felt truly honored.

Along with her interest in Pickens County history, she was also known for her creativity and interest in arts and crafts, having worked at the Gift Shoppe in Aliceville in earlier years. She passed on her love of needlework to her children and grandchildren and also taught several craft classes at the Aliceville Public Library. She had a special love of nature and enjoyed time working in her yard.

She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who left us with many heartwarming memories which will remain with us always.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Colvin, Jimmie Earl Fikes, Joe Lewis, Billy McKinzey, Dale Moore, Jack Summerville, Bill Puckett, Ted Ezelle, Jim Park and Mark Wheat.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Aliceville Museum.

Idelle Wyatt

NORTHPORT - Idelle Wyatt, of Forest Manor Nursing Home, died July 31, 2002. Arrangements will be announced later by Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South.

Malissa M. Wiggins

MOUNDVILLE - Malissa M. Wiggins, 94, of 462 Market Street, died July 30, 2002 at Glen Haven Nursing Home. Services will be held at Moundville Baptist Church, today at 11 a.m. Dr. Malcolm Marler, Rev. Larry Geiger, Rev. Edwin King, and Rev. Scott Stevens will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Magnolia Chapel South is directing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Rufus Wiggins; two sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include her sons, John Robert Wiggins and wife Jean, William Rufus Wiggins and wife Charlotte.

Pallbearers will be Will Wiggins, Jarrod Wiggins, Steve Wiggins, Buddy Cannova, Ross Sanders, Ryan Sanders, Buster Cannova, and Matt McQuiston.

Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spouses: Mrs. Debbie Wiggins, bobby and Michael, Mr. and Mrs. Rick McQuistion and Katie, Mrs. Melinda Geiger and Melissa and Brady, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Globetti and Nick, Mario, Mark, Emanual, Isabella, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Costa, Marianna and Phillip, Mrs. Ronda Connova and Mike, Other Family Members, Mrs. Lewis Marler, Mrs. Ford Wiggins, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wiggins, Mr. Jesse Wiggins and The Loyal Heart Sunday School Class at Moundville Baptist Church.

Bertha Sharp

ATLANTA, Ga. - Bertha Sharp, age 91, formerly of Tuscaloosa, died July 26, 2002. Services will be today, 12 noon at Weeping Mary Baptist Church. Rev. J. L. Simpson will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park with Rollins’ Mortuary directing. the body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service.

Olus P. McCaleb

WINFIELD - Olus P. McCaleb, age 76, died July 30, 2002. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Miles Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in New River Cemetery with Miles Funeral Home of Winfield directing. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Dana Pearson Ray

COKER - Dana Pearson Ray, age 31, 11632 West Wood, died July 30, 2002, at her residence. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Chapel of Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Survivors include daughter, Amber Nicole Ray; parents, Jack K. Pearson and Pat Stewart; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Fielder, Bubba Richardson, John Cannon, Dwight Mayfield, Mark White and James Robertson.

Margaret Ann Johnson

GREENSBORO - Margaret Ann Johnson, age 58, died July 30, 2002, at Colonial Haven Care Rehabilitation Center. Services will be held 2 p.m. today, Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes, Green sboro directing. Visitation will be at the church from 1-2 p.m.

Hewey Price

CARROLLTON - Hewey Price , age 73, of 1912 Rocky Ridge Road, died July 31, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Crossroads Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Jackson and Rev. Jerry Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Kay Price of Carrollton; daughters, Beverly June Price of Birmingham, Janice Renee Gatewood (Charles) of Jackson, Miss., Bonnie Joan Owens (Wayne) of Carrollton and Joy Regina Stuart (Ed) of Pensacola, Fla.; sisters, Ernestine Windle of Reform, Faustine Bresenhan of Coker and Jean Hydrick of Foster s; brothers, Waymon F. "Jack" Price of Ethelsville and Damon "E. P." Price of Fayette; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Price was born and raised in the Antioch Community above Reform where he was known as "Monk". He married Elsie Perrigin on December 31, 1954. He was a retired electrician and was active in the I.B.E.W. He was a faithful member and worker of Crossroads Baptist Church. During his retirement he enjoyed sitting on his front porch, meeting his friends for coffee at jack’s, fishing and visiting his daughters. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather.

Special thanks to Dr. Dale Robbins and staff, Pickens County Hospital, Dr. Narayan Krishnamurthy, Dr. William Hill and staffs, DCH Regional Medical Center and lifelong friend, Jim Frank Smith.

Pallbearers will be Joe Dixon, Rodney Klug, Dan O’Mary, Rolston Oglesby, Jackie Ray, Frank Smith and Junior Abrams.

Honorary pallbearers are Girlie Oglesby, Joe Pogue, James Butler, Joe Swedenburg, Walter Ray and Jack’s Coffee Buddies.

Shirley Gayle Powell

TUSCALOOSA - Shirley Gayle Powell, 64, of 3033 Green Grove Dr. NE, died July 29, 2002 at her home. Graveside services will be held in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park today at 3 p.m. Rev. Hugh Palmer will officiate. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Tierce, Sr.; and her sister, Katherine Holt.

Survivors include her husband, Leslie Don Powell; daughters, Caprice Henderson, and Andrea Barnes; sons, Steve Kizziah, and Jason Smyth; sisters, Faye Condo, and Jean Smith; brother, Robert C. Tierce, Jr.; grandchildren, Christie Nichols, Jena Pater, Amber Smyth, Jaclyn Pater, Allison Barnes, Jim and Whitney Henderson.

Pallbearers will be David English and David Banks.

Honorary pallbearers are Friends and Neighbors of Green Grove, and Cancer Employees.
