Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 1, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Bailey Tabernacle CME Church, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Dr. W.C. Jones, officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Oak Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The remains will repose at the church beginning at 1 p.m. Van Hoose and Steele Funeral Home is directing.

She is preceded in death by her father, Billy G. Stephens, Sr.; grandfather, Burton L. Madden; grandmother, Myrtle Madden, also grandfather, Emiel Britain and grandmother, Irene Britain.

ALICEVILLE - Sue Ray Stabler, age 85, 415 1st Street, N.E., died July 30, 2002, at Sansing Country Home. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, First Baptist Church of Aliceville with Rev. P. Joe White and Rev. Jim Cooley officiating. Burial will follow in Franconia Oak Grove Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Gerald Wayne Stabler, a former mayor of Aliceville and Pickens County Funeral director; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Franklin Ray of Montevallo; sisters, Louise Griffith of Tifton, Ga. and infant granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Smelko
Survivors include daughters, Charlotte S. Conrad (Wayne) of Dothan and Barbara S. McCool (Bob) of Pell City; sister, Carolyn Penix of Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren, Robin S. Funderburk and Barbara Daniels, both of Dothan, Susan S. Schmitt of Atlanta, Ga., Karen S. Boyle of Grapevine, Texas and John A. Smelko of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren, Gerald Stabler Clements of Dothan, Lauren, Rachel and David Boyle, all of Grapevine, Texas; and niece, Carol Swenson of Sacramento Calif.
Sue was born August 2, 1916, in Blue Springs, Ala., in Barbour County, the second of three daughters, and came to Aliceville to make her home in 1936 after her marriage to Gerald Stabler on April 30, 1935. "Miss Sue", as she was affectionately known, was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Aliceville. She was active in various clubs and organizations, having held the office of President of the S.W. Hood Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and also The Arts Club. As American Heritage Chairman of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she won the State Award for five consecutive years for her articles based on her research of historical homes, sites, and people from Pickens County’s past. She was especially instrumental in helping to organize the 1989 P.O.W. Reunion which ultimately led to a second German-American Reunion in 1991 and the establishment of the Aliceville Museum and Cultural Arts Center. Because of her initial efforts in 1989, Sue Stabler Park was created on the old P.O.W. camp site for which she felt truly honored.
Along with her interest in Pickens County history, she was also known for her creativity and interest in arts and crafts, having worked at the Gift Shoppe in Aliceville in earlier years. She passed on her love of needlework to her children and grandchildren and also taught several craft classes at the Aliceville Public Library. She had a special love of nature and enjoyed time working in her yard.
She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who left us with many heartwarming memories which will remain with us always.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Colvin, Jimmie Earl Fikes, Joe Lewis, Billy McKinzey, Dale Moore, Jack Summerville, Bill Puckett, Ted Ezelle, Jim Park and Mark Wheat.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Aliceville Museum.

MOUNDVILLE - Malissa M. Wiggins, 94, of 462 Market Street, died July 30, 2002 at Glen Haven Nursing Home. Services will be held at Moundville Baptist Church, today at 11 a.m. Dr. Malcolm Marler, Rev. Larry Geiger, Rev. Edwin King, and Rev. Scott Stevens will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Rufus Wiggins; two sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include her sons, John Robert Wiggins and wife Jean, William Rufus Wiggins and wife Charlotte.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Kay Price of Carrollton; daughters, Beverly June Price of Birmingham, Janice Renee Gatewood (Charles) of Jackson, Miss., Bonnie Joan Owens (Wayne) of Carrollton and Joy Regina Stuart (Ed) of Pensacola, Fla.; sisters, Ernestine Windle of Reform, Faustine Bresenhan of Coker and Jean Hydrick of Foster s; brothers, Waymon F. "Jack" Price of Ethelsville and Damon "E. P." Price of Fayette; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Price was born and raised in the Antioch Community above Reform where he was known as "Monk". He married Elsie Perrigin on December 31, 1954. He was a retired electrician and was active in the I.B.E.W. He was a faithful member and worker of Crossroads Baptist Church. During his retirement he enjoyed sitting on his front porch, meeting his friends for coffee at jack’s, fishing and visiting his daughters. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Tierce, Sr.; and her sister, Katherine Holt.
