TUSCALOOSA - Mary Obeal Hankins Belk, 96, died July 30, 2002 at Heritage Health Care Center in Tuscaloosa. Graveside services will be held in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, today at 10 a.m. Rev. Alan Head will officiate. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home of Northport is directing.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Roy Belk, and her son, Thomas Darrel Belk, Sr.
Survivors include her son, Jerry Belk, Sr. (Loretta); daughter-in-law, Peggy V. Belk; grandchildren, Jerry Belk, Jr. (Patti), Tommy Belk (Liz), Kelly Belk (Marie), Mary Jo Belk, Ansley Gentry (Jim); great-grandchildren, Cravens Belk, Virginia Belk, Jerry Belk III, and Jack Gentry.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She and her husband owned and operated a family grocery store near the University of Alabama for 30 years.
Active pallbearers will be Jerry Belk, Jr., Tommy Belk, Jr., Kelly Belk, Cravens Belk, Jim Gentry, Michael Ryan, Leo Colburn, and James Henderson.
Honorary pallbearers are Members of Trinity United Methodist Church, Heritage Health Care Center Staff, Members of the Eastern Star, and the Needle Craft Club, Dr. Ted Cone, and Dr. Omer Baker.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

GUIN - Mattie Howe, age 91, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002. Services will be held 11 a.m. today, Guin First United Methodist Church with burial in the Guin City Cemetery. Norwood Funeral Home of Guin is directing.
Sara Beth Jones
NORTHPORT - Funeral services for Sara Beth Jones, age 17, of Northport, will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2002, at Shelton Funeral Home in Decatur with Mark Posey and Jimmy Clark officiating. Interment will be in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Miss Jones died on Monday, July 29, 2002 in rural Lawrence County. She was born on April 24, 1985 in Decatur to David Malcolm Jones and Shelia Elaine Reeves. Miss Jones attended East Lawrence Elementary and Middle Schools and currently attended Tuscaloosa County High School.
Miss Jones is survived by her father, David M. Jones of Northport, her mother, Sheila Rutherford of Trinity, her grandparents, Malcolm and Lorene Jones of Neel and Willowdean Reeves of Trinity, and her great-grandmother, Ruby Jones of Neel.
Pallbearers will be Gary Reeves, Brandon Reeves, Jason Reeves, Jeff Jones, Kenny Way and Brian Way.
Leonard William Werner
TUSCALOOSA - Leonard William Werner, passed away at his home on August 1, 2002. He was born in Cullman, Alabama on December 12, 1908 and grew up in Cullman and Birmingham. He moved to Tuscaloosa in 1935, where he was employed with Gulf States Paper Corporation until his retirement in 1972.
Mr. Werner is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Bennie Shurett Werner. They have one child, a daughter, Mary Lynn Werner-Minges, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Werner’s older sister, Minnie Williams, is the only one of his four siblings to survive him.
The deceased was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.
A memorial service in his honor will be held Sunday, August 11, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, located at 1401 University Blvd., East, Tuscaloosa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 1800 McFarland Blvd., N., Suite 310, Tuscaloosa, AL 35406 or Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Hershel (Red) Cook
BERRY - Hershel (Red) Cook, age 77, of 799 Red Cook Road, died July 30, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Studdards Crossroads Church with Rev. Harchel Burkett officiating. Burial will follow in adjoining cemetery with Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette directing. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state from 10:30-11:00 a.m.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wynell Cook; son, Donald (Butch) Cook; sisters, Dorothy Simpson and Ann Nelson; brothers, Berthel Cook and Vester Cook.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Sanders, Berry; sons, Perry L. Cook, Tuscaloosa and Jerry G. Cook, Cottondale; sisters, Jean Garner, Theodore and Midge Files, Mobile; brother, Clifton Cook, Carbon Hill; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Owen Cook, Don Craft, Tim Pryor, Glenn Gann, Virgil Kilgore and Phillip Rinehart.
Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors in the community.

TUSCALOOSA - Idelle C. Wyatt, 93, formerly of Big Sandy, died July 31, 2002 at Forest Manor Nursing Home. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Big Sandy Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Ehr officiating. Burial will follow in Big Sandy Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home, South is directing.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richmond Wyatt and son, Raymond Wyatt and grandson, Dwight Leonard.
Survivors include three daughters, Corenlia Ruiz, San Fransisco, Calif., Jean Lawless, Tuscaloosa and Margie Wright, Pearl River, La.; a son Stanley Wyatt, Tuscaloosa, a sister, Alene Key, Tuscaloosa; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends; one special family friend, Terra Lanier.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy R. Davis, Larry Crawford, Randy Key, J.C. Carpenter, Searcy Crawford, Wayne Crawford and Buster King.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Hulsey; son, John W. Hulsey, Jr.; parents, Perry G and Lurley White.
Survivors include daughters, Ardith H. Mills of Demopolis and Cherry "Grady" Jones of Birmingham; sons, Randall Hulsey of Mobile and daughter-in-law, Martha Hulsey of Tuscaloosa; sister, Delma Taylor, Mobile; nine grandchildren and 17 grandchildren.
