Anne Louise Williams Bryant
GREENSBORO - Anne Louise Williams Bryant, age 92, of 901 Market Street, died August 1, 2002, at Perry County Nursing Home in Marion. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Green sboro on Saturday, August 3, at 11 a.m., Rev. Alton Phillips will officiate.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Stewart Franklin Bryant, and her son, Stewart Franklin Bryant, Jr., her parents, Frank Bell Williams and Pauline Zuechting Williams, brother, William Franklin Williams, and sisters, Estelle Williams Conerly and Knoxie Williams Wilson.
Louise was born August 19, 1909, in Tuscaloosa and lived for many years in Selma with her family, graduating from Selma High School in 1927 and attending business college. After her marriage to Stewart Bryant, they lived in Corcicana, Texas and Montgomery, Alabama, before making their home in Green sboro in 1947, where they owned and operated Rothenbury’s drygoods store until their retirement.
She was a faithful member and worker in her church, a loving and loyal friend, and a devoted and loving wife, mother, and aunt, who has left a wonderful example and memories that will remain with those who loved her.
She leaves to mourn seven nieces and nephews: Janice Conerly of Green sboro, Louise Williams Thaxton of Tuscaloosa, Julia Williams (Charles) Cohen of Tampa, Fla., Jim (Jenis) Conerly, Jerre (France) Conerly, and Carole Conerly (Danny) McDonald, all of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Emory (Maxine) Wilson of Westminister, Calif; fourteen grand-nieces and nephews; Sidney and Karen Cohen; Chip, Dale, and Matthew Conerly; Adrienne Cox Olson and Brent Cox; Denis, Thomas McDonald and Janene McDonald Dunston, Kerre Conerly, Stephanie Wilson Neuwirth, and Eric and Mark Wilson and nine great-great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Green sboro or the Noel Ramsey House preservation society. Kirk Funeral Homes of Green sboro is assisting family with arrangements.
Martin Luther Goodson Sr.
EUTAW - Martin Luther Goodson, Sr., age 88, died on July 29, 2002 at Greene County Hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2002, at Mt. Sinai United Methodist Church with Rev. L. C. Eatman officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Gandy Funeral Home of Eutaw directing. Public Visitation will be today, August 2, 2002 from 2-6 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Johnie C. Goodson, Eutaw; two sons, Martin Luther (Freddie) Goodson, Jr., Saginaw, Mich., and Toice (Shirley) Goodson, Eutaw; one daughter, Shirley Chrisentery, Baton Rouge, La.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Gwindle D. Phillips
Gwindle D. Phillips, age 61, died August 4, 2002 at her residence. Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from Phillips Chapel FWB Church. Rev. Terrell Jones, Rev. Jerry Montgomery, and Rev. Tony Latham will officiate. Burial will follow in Phillips Chapel FWB Church Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bro. Clyde & Ruvin Oswalt, brothers, Donald & Wallace Oswalt, and granddaughter, Cassie Phillips.

(Buddy) Phillips, sons, Ronnie Phillips, Robert Phillips (Lisa), Gary Phillips (Patricia), Roger Phillips (Kim), sisters, Ceavlon Latham (Tony), Elizabeth Swindle (Armond), Brenda Malone (Danny), Becky Grimes, brothers, Curtis Oswalt (Gee Gee), John Oswalt (Annette), grandchildren, Amanda, Justin, Hilary, Kyle, Randy, Ricky, Jessica, Kelsey, and Paige, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and family.

BERRY - Hershel (Red) Cook, age 77, of 799 Red Cook Road, died July 30, 2002, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be held 11 a.m. today, Studdards Crossroads Church with Rev. Harchel Burkett officiating. Burial will follow in adjoining cemetery with Nelson Funeral Home of Fayette directing. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state from 10:30-11:00 a.m.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wynell Cook; son, Donald (Butch) Cook; sisters, Dorothy Simpson and Ann Nelson; brothers, Berthel Cook and Vester Cook.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Sanders, Berry; sons, Terry L. Cook, Tuscaloosa and Jerry G. Cook, Cottondale; sisters, Jean Garner, Theodore and Midge Files, Mobile; brother, Clifton Cook, Carbon Hill; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Owen Cook, Don Craft, Tim Pryor, Glenn Gann, Virgil Kilgore and Phillip Rinehart.

Louis H. Lackey, Jr.
Louis H. Lackey, Jr., age 77, of 11 30th St. East, died August 1, 2002 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be held in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Charles Durham and Rev. Kevin Carley will officiate. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home preceding graveside services. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home directing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis H. Lackey and Mary L. Lackey and his daughter, Rosemary Lackey.
Survivors include his wife, Martha B. Lackey, son, Louis H. Lackey III, daughter-in-law, Charlotte H. Lackey, grandsons, Louis Parker Lackey and Patrick Hammonds Lackey, sister, Mary L. Bryson.
He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He served Tuscaloosa County as district attorney and circuit court judge for many years. Following his retirement, he has done volunteer work at Legal Services Corporation of Alabama. He was a World War II Marine Veteran.

Steven Wayne Lanyon, age 27, of 16028 Hilltop Terrace, died August 1, 2002 in Birmingham, AL. Visitation will be held Monday at Heritage Chapel from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Gandy Cemetery, Galena, Kansas. Heritage Chapel Funeral Home directing.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents and brother, Scott.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joanthan T. and Lula Weaver Elledge; and brother, Johnnie W. Elledge.
Survivors include her daughter, June Orr Reese of Tuscaloosa; nieces, Cheri Allen of Houston, Texas, and Karen Friscia of Tuscaloosa; nephews, Michael Elledge, and Donald Elledge, both of Tuscaloosa; several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was a generous and loving friend to all she met. For more than 60 years she was a self-employed seamstress, especially for U of A students whom she loved. She enjoyed being outdoors working in her garden and yard and delighted in feeding the wild birds.
Pallbearers will be Michael Elledge, Roscoe Shamblin, Tom Bauman, John Orr, Charles Elledge, Jonathan Friscia, Gus Friscia, and Joshua Elledge.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Calloway, Gallion, Ala.; a son, Cleveland (Doris) Killgore, Gallion, Ala.; a sister, Viola Gibbs, Linden, Ala.; a brother, Searcy (Jackie) Baker, Gallion, Ala.; five grandchildren, Coroy (Denise) Calloway, Cheryl Calloway, Christi (Garry) Rabalais, Mark (Gina) Killgore and Rachel (Steven) King; six great-grandchildren.
She was a native of Akron, Alabama and a resident of Gallion, for many years. She was a retired clerk with the Alabama Beverage Control Board.
