Dr. Nell Chism May
COLUMBUS, Miss. - Dr. Nell Chism May, died August 21, 2001 in Pensacola, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Merenzo Louis Chism and Daisy Elizabeth Jackson Chism of Berry, Alabama.
Dr. May received degrees from The University of Alabama and Mississippi State University and was retired Professor Emeritus from Mississippi University for Women. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma; Daughters of the American Revolution, Shuk-ho-ta Tom-a-ha Chapter; United Daughters of the Confederacy, Stephen D. Lee Chapter; Genealogy Society; and United States Air Force Retired Officers Wives Club.
Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel is in charge of cremation with private interment in Berry City Cemetery, Berry, Alabama.
Dr. May was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lomax Louis May. She is survived by two sons, James J. May of Columbus, Mississippi and Dr. John L. May, daughter-in-law, Lisa May, granddaughter, Justine May of Pensacola, Florida.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Pauline Barnett Sartain
TUSCALOOSA - Pauline Barnett Sartain, 96, died August 29, 2001 at Heritage Health Care Center. Graveside Services will be held today at 11 a.m., in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, with Rev. Joseph Robinson officiating. Memory Chapel Funeral Home is directing.
She is survived by a daughter, Nell S. Selby; brothers, J. T. Barnett, Walter Barnett; grandchildren, Elaine S. Alley, Sandra S. Lasher; four great grandchildren.

Clifford Dean Remaley
TUSCALOOSA - Clifford Dean Remaley, 77, passed away August 29, 2001 at The Veterans Administration Medical Center, Tuscaloosa, Ala, after a long illness.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Forest Lake United Methodist Church with the Reverend David Carboni officiating. Visitation will be Friday, August 31, 2001 from 6 – 8 p.m., at Memory Chapel Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Remaley; son, Richard (Jeanette), Missouri City, Texas; daughter, Connie Grechanik (Jeffery), Yorktown, VA.; granddaughters, Jennifer Hamner (Jim), Tuscaloosa; Farah Halford (Paul), Columbus, Ga.; Katie Remaley, Missouri City, Texas; grandson, Chris Norris (Anna), Mclean, Va.; great grandchildren, Paul Emerson and Nicholas Halford, Columbus, Ga.; a brother, Delbert Remaley (Letha), Twin Falls, ID; sisters in law, Grace Remaley, Seneca, Pa.; Janet Remaley, McDonough, Ga.; Lucile Malcom (George) Monroe, Ga.; and Ruth Hunt (Dock) Athens, Ga.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Harry E. Hubbard and saw action in the battle for Okinawa.
His career with the Department of Veterans Affairs began in 1946 in Washington, DC as a purchasing agent. New VA Hospital were needed to serve the WW II Veterans an he helped to open the one in Erie, PA., Philadelphia, PA., and Salisbury, NC. He also served the VA in Atlanta, Ga., Dayton, OH., and Tuscaloosa, Ala. He retired on disability from the VAMC in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
He was a member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church and The National Association for Retired Federal Employees.
The family expresses appreciation to the staff of the VAMC in Tuscaloosa, Drs. Lydia Stefanescu, Pedro Lopez, Sakina Kamal, and his many caregivers.

NORTHPORT - Aaron Griffin, 87, 125 West Circle, died August 30, 2001 at his residence. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 1, 2001 at 11 a.m., in Arbor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with Bro. Dwight Beams officiating. Survivors include his niece, Sara Adams, Birmingham; nephew, Curtis Bell, Tuscaloosa; several great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Griffin Was a WW II Veteran and served in the U. S. Army.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Carpenter and grandson, Robert Michael Carpenter.

She is survived by her husband, James N. Kemp, Tuscaloosa; Daughter, Norma (Mayo) Junkin, Reform; son, James E. (Anne) Kemp, Hoover; Sister, Margaret ( Woody, Sr.) Latham; grandchildren, James A. (Susan) Junkin, Northport, David A. Junkin; great-grandson, Patrick Junkin; Niece, Peggy Schmitz, Montgomery; nephews, Ronald Latham, Terry Kemp, both of Birmingham, Bruce Kemp of Bessemer, Steve Kemp also of Bessemer and a host of other relatives.
Mrs. Kemp was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Tuscaloosa.
