TUSCALOOSA - Eliza Jane Black, 81, of 4620 18th Ave. E., died August 2, 2001 at Northport Medical Center. Services will be held on Tuesday August 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Lorenzo James officiating. Burial will follow in Ceder Oak Memorial Park. Visitation will be today from 10:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services. Van Hoose and Steele Funeral Home is directing.
She is preceded in death by her husband and her beloved parents.
She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Jenkins of Birmingham, Mary Foster (James) of Tuscaloosa; sons, George Black (Georgia), Melvin Black (Lillian), Joseph Black (Cherry), James Black (Joanne) all of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, LaTrenda, Kenny, Angela B., Angela S., NaTa’sha, Shilinda, Andrea, Ariel, Jennifer, Serra, Tomika, Timothy, Eric; seven great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Deacons of the Church.

ELROD - Michael E. Lancaster, Sr., 61, 12659 Lee Bonner Road, died August 5, 2001 at Methodist Medical Center, Houston, TX. Services will be held at Corinth Baptist Church in Elrod, on Wednesday, August 9, 2001 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Paul Ward and Rev. W. E. Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 10-11 a.m. prior to service. He is preceded in death by his son, Barry Lancaster, his father, James Martin Lancaster, and a brother, James L. Lancaster.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Lancaster Brown (Ricky) of Tuscaloosa, Mahaley Lancaster of Northport; sons, Terry Lancaster of Elrod, Michael Lancaster, Jr., (Teresa) of Moundville; sisters, Becki Lancaster Marcum of Elrod, Sharon Lancaster of Gordo; brothers, Pat Lancaster (Sheila) of Elrod, David Lancaster (Marty) of Northport; his mother, Ruth Lancaster of Elrod; one grandson, Chad Lancaster; his Aunt Clara Lou Mihelic of Elrod.
Pallbearers will be James Smith, Horace Overton, Jeff Hudson, Jimmy Tucker, Glenn Miller and Ray Davis.
Edmund Coyle Kain, Jr.
BIRMINGHAM - Edmund Coyle Kain, Jr., passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2001 at the age of 81.
Funeral Services will be held today at 2 p.m., in the chapel at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Hoover with Father Pat Sullivan to officiate. Burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens South, Hoover. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service at the funeral home from 1 p.m., until 2 p.m.
Survivors include, wife of 57 years, Mary Louise Rodgers Kain of Birmingham, children, Carol Kain Gaines of Huntsville, James E. Kain of Shalimar, Fla., Charlotte Kain Martin of Eufaula, R. Gerry Kain of Hoover and John R. Kain of Sylvania, Ga., eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, brothers, John F. Kain of Riverside, Calif., and Herbert K. Kain of Santa Cruz, Calif., and sisters, Katherine Kain Sisler of San Anselmo, Calif., and Molly Morgan Kain of California.
Mr. Kain was a graduate of Ensley High School and Auburn University in 1941 with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the US Army Air Corps in the South Pacific as a B-24 Pilot from 1942 until 1946. He was employed with Attalla Pipe and Foundry. Gulf States Paper in Tuscaloosa and retired from Rust International in Birmingham. Mr. Kain was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tuscaloosa and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Birmingham. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and he was active after retirement with volunteer work at Cooper Green Hospital and Meals on Wheels.

Mildred Estelle Nelson Garner
BERRY - Mildred Estelle Nelson Garner, 91, died August 5, 2001 at her residence. Services will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. from the Berry United Methodist Church with Pastor Carol Lambert officiating and Nelson Funeral Home directing.
The body will lie state from 11:00-11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Berry City Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-9 at Nelson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Garner was born in the Berry Community August 5, 1910. She worked at the Arrow Shirt Factory, Carbon Hill, Ala.
She also supplemented the family income by sewing for the public and after retiring worked locally with Green Thumb, Inc., helping at the school, National Guard Armory and the Senior Citizens feeding programs until the age of eighty.
She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church currently attending Berry United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Garner, a son, Wilfred Garner, daughters, Shirley Ann Cannon and Wynell Cook, a grandson, Donald "Butch" Cook and her faithful companion, Mitzi.
Survivors include a son: Freddie Wayne Garner of Berry, a daughter: Merle Craft of Bakersfield, Calif., brothers: Guin Nelson of Abington, Mass., Buddy Nelson of Halcomb Mo., Raymond Nelson of Calif., sisters: Loyal Jenkins Baker of Oakman, Ala., Margie Bates of Parrish, Ala., Rachael Lytle of Marrilton, Ark., 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be: Matthew Lollar, Jeff Handley, Justin Miller, Scott Kilgore, Fenton Garner and Dewayne Wallace.
Honorary pallbearers are all the friends she made during her life long love of sewing.

She was a Devoted and Loving Christian mother and a loving friend to all.
