Nelson Thomas Holladay, 84, of Sherwood died Dec. 25, 2001. He was a member of Eagles Lodge #60. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Holladay; a brother, Bob Holladay; a sister, Dorothy Moore; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral was Dec. 28 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel, North Little Rock, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Arthur L. Clay Jr.
Arthur L. Clay Jr., 74, of North Little Rock died Jan. 22, 2002. Survivors include three sisters, Annie Wallace, Sue Finley and Katherine Moss; and a brother, Arvin Clay. Graveside service was held at Kennerly Cemetery in Roland. Huson Funeral Home of Sherwood was in charge.

Mary Virginia Jones
Mary Virginia Jones, 84, of Little Rock, died Tuesday, January 22, 2002. She was a member of First Christian Church, Little Rock, past President of the 20th Century Club, past State President of the Arkansas Medical Auxiliary, a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Den Mother and Troop Leader. She is survived by two sons; Erner Jones., of Sherwood and J. Phelps Jones, of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Marti Hampton, of Little Rock; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. A graveside gathering in remembrance of Mrs. Jones was held Jan. 25, in Oakland Cemetery, Fordyce. Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth Custom Funerals & Cremations, were in charge.

Nora Lee Woodruff Roussel, age 67, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Searcy. She is survived by her mother, Ellie Woodruff Cantwell; four children, Pam Lowery of Sherwood, Michele Wasson of North Little Rock, Scott Roussel of Searcy, Phillip Roussel of Searcy; one sister, Dorothy Morgan; one brother, Kenneth Woodruff, all of Grubbs; 10 grandchildren. A celebration of her life was held at Powell Funeral Home Wednesday, Jan. 30. Burial was in White County Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Arkansas Chapter, or the Arkansas Children's Home.

Adam Bradly Conrad
Adam Bradly Conrad, age 91, of Sherwood, died Jan. 24, 2002. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Sherwood; a volunteer at the Sherwood Fire Department where he retired from; and retired M.O.P. Railroad in North Little Rock. He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Conrad of the home; daughter, Barbara Bryant of San Antonio, Texas; stepsons, Hoyt A. Agee Jr. of Deberry, Texas, Adron G. Agee and Robert A. Agee, both of Sherwood; six grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Williams of McGehee, and Margret Tyson of Wesson, Miss.; and three brothers, Milton Conrad of Bastrop, La., Warren Conrad of Napa, CA, Jack Conrad of Tiller. Reid Ralph Huckeba, age 48, of Bryant, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002. He was a member of Highland Valley United Methodist Church. He is survived by his mother, H. Christine Huckeba of Little Rock; his brother, Stuart C. Huckeba of Sherwood; son, Dustin Huckeba; and daughter, Amanda Huckeba. A graveside service was held Jan. 28, at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Genieva C. Martin
Genieva C. Martin, age 91, of Sherwood, died Jan. 23, 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Kay Frances Faulkner of Sherwood; a son, J.W. Martin of Sherwood; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A gathering to celebrate her life was Jan. 26, at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Sherrill Ross Thomason
Sherrill Ross Thomason, 61, of White Hall died Jan. 26, 2002. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and farmed in Kelso. He and his wife owned and operated Thomason s Grocery in Pine Bluff. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Thomason; a daughter, Dwana Lee of McGehee; a son, Larry Duke of Pine Bluff; brothers, Larry Thomason of Sherwood and Norris Thomason of Granite City, Ill.; sisters, Barbara Mavity of Beebe, Mary Thomason of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Kay Jester of grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ralph Robinson & Son in Pine Bluff, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in White Hall. Essa Ishak Akel
Essa Ishak Akel, 78, of Sherwood, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002. He was a North Little Rock businessman for 40 years and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He is survived by two sons, George Akel and Nidol (Nick) Akel, of Mabelvale; two daughters, Wisam Kassees and Magidah Akel of Sherwood; one brother, Fuad Akel of Chicago; two sisters, Masadeh Bateh of Jacksonville, Fla., and Nama Alley of Sherwood; six grandchildren; one great-grand-daughter. A Rosary was held Sept. 20, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home. A mass of the Resurrection was held Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7000 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock. Interment was in Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Dorothy "Nanny" Coker, 80, of Sherwood, died Sept. 18, 2002. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in North Little Rock. Survivors include a son, Joseph Coker of Mayflower; two daughters, Helen Goddard of Stockton, Calif., and Sheila Coker of Sherwood; two brothers, T.J. Angus Ray Morrison
Angus Ray Morrison, age 92, of Rison died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002. He retired from the Arkansas State Game and Fish Commission where he was a State Game Warden for over 26 years. He was a member of the Arkansas State Employment Retirement Association and a Methodist. He is survived by his wife, Mildred England Morrison of Rison; one son, Ray E. Morrison of Rison; two daughters, Kay Reed of Rison and Angela Day of Sherwood; one brother, Jones Morrison of the Pansy Community; and one sister, Pauline Pintato of Glenwood; 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Sept. 20, at the Buie Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Frances Smithson
Frances Dodson Smithson, 80, of North Little Rock, died Sept. 21, 2002. She was a long time volunteer for the American Red Cross and many other organizations. Survivors include husband, Colonel Claude Smithson; one son, John M. Smithson of North Little Rock; one sister, Amy Thomas of Sherwood; two brothers, Bert Dodson of Hot Springs, Albert Dodson of Jacksonville; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Graveside services, under the supervision of Roller-Owens Funeral Home were Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock.

Lunda Alexander
Lunda Brown Alexander, 89, of Sherwood died Sept. 21, 2002. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Corning, and Central Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Joann Pritchett of Sherwood; two grandsons; one great-grandson; one great-grand-daughter. Funeral was Sept. 24 at Central Baptist Church, with burial in Green County Memorial Gardens, Paragould. Roller-Owens Funeral was in charge. Mary Alice Thomas
Mary Alice Thomas was born in Boicourt, Kansas on August 8, 1921. She died on Friday, Sept. 20, and was preceded in death by her parents and five older brothers. She moved from Kansas to Washington State during her teenage years where she met and married Jim Thomas on July 15, 1940. After moving to Arkansas in September of 1972 she was employed as a secretary for the Arkansas Medical Examiner's Office in Little Rock for several years. They later moved to Boone County where she worked as a church secretary for 12 years at Southside Baptist Church in South Lead Hill. She is survived by her husband Jim, son Jim of Sherwood, daughter Jeanie Engelland of Fox Island, Washington, and daughter Linda Richardson of Bergman. She had 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Lucille Ray Eslick
Lucille Ray Eslick, 60, of North Little Rock, died Oct. 11, 2002. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her husband, Bill Eslick; mother, Dorthula Stocks of North Little Rock; five sons, William Doak Ray IV of Rogers, Joe Allen Ray of Bixby, Okla.; Charles Edward Ray of North Little Rock; Billy Eslick of Jacksonville; Brian Eslick of Oak Grove; daughter, Charlotte Spencer of Mountain Home; sisters, Lois Chambers of Jacksonville; Faye Thomas of Sherwood, and Carolyn Douglas of North Little Rock; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Timothy S. Davis
Timothy S. Davis, 71, of North Little Rock died Wednesday. He was a member of King Solomon Baptist Church and was retired from the Army. Survivors include two sons, Clarence Davis of Little Rock, Terry Davis of Sherwood; two daughters, Tina Davis of North Little Rock, LaTonya Bell of Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers, Rev. Jack Marshall of Sherwood, Leroy Davis of Phoenix; two sisters, Wanda Gibson and Julia Bellamy both of Phoenix. Funeral services were Monday at King Solomon Baptist Church. Arrangements were by Calhoun-Wilson Funeral Home.

Rebecca C. Brown
Rebecca Cobb Brown of Sherwood died Oct. 9, 2002. She was the widow of Ercil F. Brown. She worked for the Federal Government until her retirement. She is survived by one sister, Marjorie Atkinson of Kansas City, Mo. Private graveside services were held in the Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Memorial Park under the direction of Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home.

Jerry W. Tarkington
Jerry Wayne Tarkington of Sherwood, died Oct. 8, 2002. Mr. Tarkington retired from the National Guard where he served in the 39th Aviation Unit and later the 1st & 114th Aviation Units. He was the owner of Tropical Hair Hut in Gravel Ridge, and an assistant general manager at the Arkansas fairground complex. Survivors include his wife, Laveda Tarkington; his mother, Katherine Louise Tarkington; three sons, Steven Wayne Tarkington, Bobby Heffner and Louis B. Heffner; two daughters, Amy Lynn Tarkington and Kathy Marie Tarkington; one brother, Larry Harold Tarkington; eight grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 11, at Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills Chapel, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock. Interment was in Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Jason Charles McCord, 31, of North Little Rock died Oct. 14, 2002. Dorothy Stanfield
Dorothy Mildred Rayburn Stanfield, 93, of Little Rock, died March 28, 2003. She was a lifelong Presbyterian and a dedicated member and former Elder of Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church. She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn S. Hudson of Tulsa, Linda Bennett of Sherwood, and Shelley Vickers of Little Rock; a sister, Virginia R. Gates of Springdale; a stepson, Dr. Wayne B. Stanfield Jr. of Newport; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral service was March 31, at Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church with burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. Jewell Golden
Jewell "Nanny" Golden, 83, of Bryant, died Saturday, March 29, 2003. She was a retired supply clerk for the University of Arkansas Medical Center, and a member of the East End Assembly of God Church. She is survived by two sons, Bobby Earl Golden of Sherwood, and Don Golden of Selma; one daughter, Betty Rowland of Bryant; one brother, William Griffin of California; one sister, Geneva Bobbitt of Dermott; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral was Tuesday in the Bellaire Baptist Church. Griffin Funeral Service in McGehee was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Dermott Cemetery.

Jason Neill Abbott
Jason Neill Abbott, age 33, of Sherwood, died Thursday, March 27, 2003. Jason served people as a Nationally Registered EMT and was active in the Little Rock Rugby Club. He was attached to the 4th Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines and had just been called to active duty, to serve his country, in operation Iraqi Freedom. He is survived by his mother, Catherine Riffle of Lees Summit, Mo.; father, Vernon Abbott of North Little Rock; grandparents, Bill and Betty Stone of Blue Springs, Mo.; great-grandmother, Orpah Baldwin of Independence, Mo.; two daughters, Catherine and Catelynn of North Little Rock; two sisters, Jennifer Hoppe of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sheila Wilson of Savannah, Ga. Funeral service, under the direction of Roller-Owens Funeral Home were Monday, March 31, at Cross Point Baptist Church. Interment was at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.

Orvel Balch, 81, of Sherwood, died Wednesday. Survivors: his wife, Gladys Balch; sons, James, Kendall, and L.G. Balch; daughters, Susie Phillips and Cathy Crowe; one sister; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services: Monday at Balch-Johnston Cemetery.
