James E. "Jim" Bear
James E. Bear, age 77, of Sherwood, formerly of Del Rio, Texas and Austin, died March 26, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joanne Beasley Bear; daughter, Linda Smith of North Little Rock; son, Jim Wyatt of North Little Rock, and son, Steven Bear of Ward; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil Bear of New Waverly, Texas; a sister, Oleta Sandlin of Houston, Texas. He was a 21 year retired Marine drill instructor & a lifelong patriot. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Del Rio, Texas. The family asks that donations be made to Arkansas Research Center at UAMS, or church or Christian organization. Memorial service was held March 28, at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock.

William Dawes Jr.
William Harvey Dawes Jr., 76, of Sherwood died March 24, 2003. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Korean War veteran. He was of the Church of Christ faith. Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae; sons, James Dawes of Clinton and Robert Dawes; daughters, Allca Peters of Sherwood and Paula Uekman of Conway; a sister, Norma Ruth Dawes; a brother, Ed Dowdey; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mark Ledbetter Sr.
Mark Douglas Ledbetter Sr., 43, of Cabot, died June 8, 2003. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sherwood. He was the owner/operator of One-Eyed Jack's Tattoo Studio in Cabot and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Survivors include his wife, Connie Buchanan Ledbetter; daughters, Jessica Lynne Belmarez and Elizabeth Joy Ledbetter; son, Mark Douglas Ledbetter, Jr., all of Cabot; and daughter Kimberly Hendrickson of Little Rock; four grandchildren; one brother, Wade Ledbetter of Little Rock. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 13, at Griffin-Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock. Interment will follow at Rest Hills Memorial Park. A gathering of friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the funeral sign his on-line guest book. Ralph Guess, 90, of North Little Rock, died June 4, 2003. He was a member of Baring Cross Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Padget of North Little Rock; his son, Bob Guess of Sherwood; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. Jack McWilliams
Jack McWilliams, 88, of Sherwood, died Friday. Survivors: his wife of 66 years, Frances Bridges McWilliams; two daughters, Pat Lewis of Fayetteville, Barbara Young of Collierville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services were Monday, Robinson's Chapel. Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery.

Clyde C. Priest
Clyde C. Priest, age 90, of Arkadelphia died Saturday, June 7, 2003. He was retired with 30 years of service as a medical photographer for the Veterans Administration in North Little Rock and was a member of the Baring Cross Missionary Baptist Church in Arkadelphia. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Faye Ward Cerrato Priest; two sons, Billy Clyde Priest of Paron, and Bing Edward Priest of North Little Rock; two stepsons, M. Russell Cerrato of Arkadelphia and Guy Edward Cerrato of Sherwood. Graveside services were June 9, in the Pinecrest Memorial Park, Alexander, with Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in charge. Gathalou Arrington
Gathalou "Gus" Arrington, 64, of Sherwood died June 4, 2003. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Bill; daughters, Kim Hearne and Kelli Pena; four grandchildren; and a brother, Forest Owen. Funeral was Saturday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Charles Denny
Charles Wesley Denny, 80, of Sherwood died July 29, 2003. Denny served three years in the Army Air Corp in England and Germany. He retired from the FBI in 1982 after 36 years of service. He was an active member of Cedar Heights Baptist Church and was a charter member of Sylvan Hills Masonic Lodge #754 in Sherwood. He recently received the Pillar of Solomon award from the Grand Lodge of Arkansas. He was also a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite of Little Rock. Survivors include his wife Mabel Denny; one daughter, Cheryl Leah Bischoff; two sons, Charles Wesley Denny II and Philip John Denny; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 at Cedar Heights Baptist Church, 14502 Cedar Heights Rd, North Little Rock (501) 851-2563 with Bro. Charlie Winters officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date. A Masonic ceremony will be held at 7p.m., Friday Aug. 1, 2003 at Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Rd, North Little Rock, (501) 835-3515 with a visitation from 7:30 until 9 p.m. following the ceremony. Lois Irene Yarbrough, 88, of Conway, died Monday, July 21, 2003. She was a dietary aide at Conway Memorial Hospital. Peggy Jean Hastings, age 78, of Beebe died July 21, 2003. She was retired from the Internal Revenue Service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beebe, where she served as treasurer for a number of years. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joe Hastings; two daughters, Peggy Gay of North Little Rock and Karen Regan of Sherwood; two sons, Lloyd and Mark Hastings of Beebe; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Patty Burns of Beebe. She is survived by her husband, Herman, of 54 years; two sons, Mike and Stephen; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Driedric and Sheila Troillett; five grandchildren. Alphia Welch
Alphia "Chubby" Welch, 74, of Sherwood, died Friday, July 25, 2003. She was a member of Lynchview Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Hobert Welch Jr. of Memphis, Tenn. and Timothy Welch of Sherwood; two grandchildren; and a brother, Billy Grantham Sr. of Morrilton. Brenda Underwood, 56, of Russellville died Friday, July 25, 2003. Survivors include her husband, Cliff Underwood, Russellville; two sons, Jay Weatherford, Stuttgart, and Larry Underwood, Sherwood; two daughters, Leah Brown, Russellville, and Mary Kay Conatser, Hurst, Texas; eight grandchildren; her mother, Louise Wood, Russellville, and a brother, Mike Wood, Russellville. Narvel Winfrey
Narvel Winfrey, retired farmer, went to be with the Lord, September 29, 2003. He was the son of the late Claude & Dixie Winfrey. Born in Lonoke County April 18, 1924, he could hitch a mule to a plow at age seven. He joined the Navy during WW II and was a radioman aboard the USS Hollis a destroyer escort in the Pacific Fleet. His ship was present in Tokyo Bay during the signing of the peace treaty with Japan. He loved farming, especially cotton. He enjoyed traveling with his family and retired at 62 so he and his wife could travel even more, making one trip to Alaska in a van, selling it and flying home. Preceding him in death was his wife of 54 years, Billie Jean Wharton Winfrey and brother, Gene Winfrey. Survivors include his daughters, Stephanie Mason (Richard) of Sherwood and Amy Staggs (Will) of North Little Rock; sisters, Eathel Howard and Betty Evans of Lonoke and Moreen Stroud of Mayflower; grandchildren, Amanda Butler (Barry) of Conway and Brent Staggs (Josie) of North Little Rock; step-granddaughter, Monica Harmon of Sherwood, great-granddaughter, Savannah Staggs of North Little Rock and step-great-granddaughter, Mason Harmon of Sherwood. Also surviving is a special friend, Pat Beaver of Lonoke. He was a devoted husband and a good daddy. Funeral Services were Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Lonoke Baptist Church with interment in Weedon Cemetery; arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home. Bonnie Ray Procop
Bonnie Raye Stacks Procop, 77, of Little Rock, died Sept. 24, 2003. She is survived by a brother, Dalton Stacks of Plumerville; her husband of 57 years, Clarence; three sons, Don Procop, Ken Procop and Phil Procop; daughters, Betty Patterson of Little Rock, Janet Johnson of Southaven, Miss., and Patti White of Sherwood; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. She was a Baptist. She worked for years in the mortgage banking business. Services were Monday, Sept. 29. Pauline Winter
Pauline "Polly" Winter, 85, of Sherwood died Sept. 25, 2003. She was a member of Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sons, Bob Winter of Sherwood and Richard Winter of Fairfax, Va.; a daughter, Kaye Couey of Rome, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral was Thursday at Sylvan Hills UMC, with burial in Sylvania Cemetery, Lonoke County.

T. (Jack) Branum
Thomas "Jack" Branum, 64, of Austin died Nov. 20, 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister and a half sister. He is survived by his wife, Janet Branum; 2 daughters, Deanna Michele Seeley and husband Mitch of LA and Tommi Rene Harris and husband Patrick of TX; 1 brother, Barney Branum of MO; 3 sisters, Bonnie Brannon of Mt. Home, Lydia Williams of MO and Brenda Floyd of Cabot; 3 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Edward K. Campbell, age 82, of Sherwood, died Nov. 24, 2003. He retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad after 41 years and was a union representative for UTU #656, a member of Lafayette Masonic Lodge, and a member of Gardner Memorial Methodist Church. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Louise; son Chuck Campbell. Lonnie E. (Dick) Cole, Jr., 79, of Cabot went to be with Jesus November 22, 2003. He was a loving husband, dad, grand-dad and great grand-dad, but most of all he was a great friend. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, the late Arizona (Cole) Crace and Lonnie E. Cole, Sr., and one sister, Nina Widner. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 61 years, Elsie (Goforth) Cole; 2 sons, Harold Cole (and Charlotte) of Sherwood, and Jerry Cole (and Susan) of Cabot; 1 daughter, Robin Standridge (and Jerry) of Cabot; 5 grandchildren, Annette Krebs, Harold E. Cole, Kelle Cole, Derek and Justin Standrige; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Jesse Castro of OR, Mary Jones Green of Maumelle AR, Noma Serdin of CA, Virginia Gonzales of Cabot, AR; 1 brother, Grover Cole of Little Rock AR. Sue DeBord Anderson of North Little Rock, formerly of Belleville, Ill., died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003. She worked at Halt's and HyHo restaurants in Belleville for several years. She is survived by her sister, "Dot," of Hilliard, Ohio; two half brothers, Jimmy and Gary DeBord of Knoxville, Tenn.; five daughters, Reva Revenburgh of Sherwood, Rita Marshall of Knoxville, Tenn., Ruth Messer and Rhonda Bersett of North Little Rock, Regina Beaudrot of Charleston, S.C.; three sons, Richard Bersett and Ronald Bersett of Belleville, Ill., and Russell Bersett; two stepchildren, Donald Anderson and Dorothy Putnam; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Charles R. Cameron, 76, of Parkers Chapel died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003. Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Sarah Pickering Cameron; two sons, Barry Cameron of Parkers Chapel, Andy Cameron of Cabot; three daughters, Cathy Cameron of Sherwood, Anita Cameron of North Little Rock, and Beth Weldon of Parkers Chapel; nine grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters. He was a Navy veteran, operated Cameron's Radiator Shop in El Dorado, Cameron's Grocery in Parkers Chapel and retired from Ethyl Corporation in 1989.
