Biographical And Historical Memoirs of Pulaski, Jefferson, Lonoke, Faulkner, Grant, Saline, Perry, Garland And Hot Spring Counties, Arkansas

Mr. Gene Carruth
Mr. Gene Carruth, 63, of Fountain Hill died Monday, October 8, 2001, at the Dallas County Nursing Home in Fordyce. Mr. Carruth was a native of Ashley County and a life long resident of Fountain Hill. He was a former employee for Shipping Systems and Georgia-Pacific in Crossett and a member of the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Iris Roberts and a brother, John Earl Roberts.
He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Smith and Tonya Carruth both, of Hampton, and five grandchildren.
Grave-side funeral services and interment were at 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, in the Flat Creek Cemetery with Revs. Bill Elton & Travis Roberts officiating. Honorary pallbearers were W. L. Hollis, Ralph Hollis, Rev. James Cook, J.D. Hollis, Dallas Lansdale, Gus Watkins, Lane Boykin and Harold Pruitt. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Mattie "Big Momma" Collins
Mattie "Big Momma" Collins, 85, of Crossett died Thursday, October 18, 2001, at her residence in Crossett. A native of Ashley County, she was a homemaker and a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Collins; four sons, two daughters, two brothers, 12 sisters, and her parents, Rance and Adelaide Marshall Simpson.
Survivors include a son, Larry Collins; a stepson, Mack Henry Collins of Washington, D. C.; three daughters, Katherine Thrower and Versie Lee Ward of Crossett and Hazel Roberts of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, L. C. Simpson of Washington, D. C: and 24 grandchildren.
Funeral services were set for Wednesday, October 24, at 1 p.m. in the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. B. J. Jackson officiating. Burial was to follow services at the Westview Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Mrs. Mattie Lee Cunningham
Mrs. Mattie Lee Henslee Cunningham, 59, of Hamburg died Saturday, October 20, 2001. at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Mrs. Cunningham was a lifelong resident of Hamburg. She was a home health aide for the Area Agency on Aging of Pine Bluff and worked in the health care field for over 30 years and a member of the Eden Baptist Church. She loved to go to bluegrass festivals and fish. She was preceded in death by her father, L.C. Henslee; a brother, Marvin Henslee; and a granddaughter, Krista Savage.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mr. Hoyt Cunningham of Hamburg; a son, Dane Cunningham and wife Jenny of Silver Creek, MS; a daughter, Patricia Savage and husband Billy Joe of Hamburg; her mother, Dean Brogan Henslee of Hamburg; a brother, Udell Henslee and wife Edna of Hamburg; a sister, Linda Harris and husband Gail of Springfield, AR; two granddaughters, Candis McGilton of Dermott and Kelli Savage of Hamburg; a great-granddaughter, Sheridan McGilton; two step-granddaughters, Natalie Young & Hannah Ware; and one step-grandson, Ethan Wolfe.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Monday, October 22, in the Zion United Methodist Church with Revs. Paul Payne & Lane Amos officiating. Pallbearers were Darrell, Donald, Bubba and Keith Henslee, Paul Tucker, Heath Cunningham, Tommy & Jason Burch. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Ray Brogan and Wayne Burch. Interment followed services at the Zion Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation, PO Box 2222, Little Rock, AR 72203.

Emily Louise Gaston McDaniel
Emily Louise Gaston McDaniel, 61, of Hamburg died Monday, October 15, 2001, at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. A native of Portland and a Hamburg resident for the past two years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Slidell, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woody Gaston; one daughter, Connie Warren; and her parents, James L. and Annie Maye Cessor Woods.
Survivors include her husband, Mr. Danny McDaniel, Sr.; one son, Joey Warren of Hamburg; three stepsons, Danny McDaniel, Jr., William Charles McDaniel and Michael Shane McDaniel, all of Rollins, Wyoming; two daughters, Pamela Sharp and Angela Jeffers of Crossett; a stepdaughter, Julia Michelle McDaniel of Rollins, Wyoming; one brother, Tommy Woods of Alexander; one sister, Jimmye Ann Owens of Wichita, KS; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 18, in the Rolfe Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Carlton White officiating. Pallbearers were Daniel Warren, Steven Herron, Ron Wolf, Mike Derrick, James King and Jesse Barnes. Honorary pallbearers were Wade Goyne and Lonnie Sharp. Burial followed services at the Rolfe Chapel Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
