Brooksie Donald Grice
Brooksie Donald "Don" Grice, 60, of Ponchatoula, LA, formerly of Crossett, died Sunday, September 30, 2001. He was a safety director in the construction industry. In 1957, he was a state champion in the 440 relay team as lead off runner with other team members Milton Johnston and Jimmy Ross, with Dicky Dunn as anchor. He was also a 1958 and 1959 state champion in track, lettering all three years. In 1958, he was all district and all state in football as a halfback, and he was awarded a scholarship to the University of Arkansas to play for the Razorbacks.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Grice of Ponchatoula, LA; three sons: Brad Grice and wife Norma of Jackson, MS, Chris Grice and wife of Fordyce, and Jim Bryan, Jr. and wife Tammy of Crossett; three daughters, Carolyn Watt and husband Timmy of Crossett, Pam Smith of Crossett, and Nancy Jackson and husband Joe of Ponchatoula, LA; two aunts and sixteen grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 4, in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Holdiness, Jimmy Roberts and Don Justice officiating. Pallbearers: Sidney Coady, Jim Ballard, Jeffry Spurlock, Ken Burchfield, Dirk Courtney, Eric Bolin. Pallbearers were Sidney Coady, Jim Ballard, Jeffry Spurlock, Ken Burchfield, Dirk Courtney and Eric Bolin. Honorary pallbearers were Ken Burchfield and Bobby Sutton.
Interment followed services at the Unity Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Myrtle Baker Helbing
Myrtle Baker Helbing, 85, died Thursday, September 27, 2001, in West Monroe, LA. Born April 8, 1916, in Ashley County, the first of seven children of Willie Earl and Roselle Noble Baker, she graduated from Fountain Hill High School in 1935. She attended business college in Little Rock and then went to California where she marriage Ernie Helbing. She lived and worked for many years in Oakland, CA, for the Alameda County Assessor's office as a drafting clerk. After her retirement, she moved to Paradise in the Pines near Magalis, CA. She was very active in community affairs and held office in several organizations. She was president of the Paradise Pines Women's Club and the Eastern Star and a member of the Paradise Church of Christ. She moved to West Monroe, LA, two years ago to be close to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of more than 50 years, a brother, W. Earl Baker, and a sister, Jeroline B. Downey.
Survivors include two brothers, two sisters, and their spouses, Ralph N. and Alyene Baker of West Monroe, LA, Macel D. and Elouise Baker of Hamburg, Berniece B. and Arthur E. White of Fairfield Bay and Marianna B. Mears of Jena, LA; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at White's Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe on Tuesday, October 2. Grave-side service with interment will be at Pinewood Memorial Park at a later date with Jones Funeral Home of Crossett in charge.
Memorials may be sent to White's Ferry Road Church of Christ, 3201 North Seventh Street, West Monroe, LA 71291 for the Baker Memorial Fund or given to a charity of the giver's choice.

Roney Mack Jeffress
Roney Mack Jeffress, 45, of Crossett, died Thursday, October 4, 2001. Born on February 7, 1956, in Crossett to Homer and Mildred McAdams Jeffress, he was a construction worker and a member of Beech Street Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Jason Jeffress.
Survivors include one daughter, Jana Jeffress of El Dorado; two brothers, State Senator Jimmy Jeffress of Crossett and State Representative Gene Jeffress of Camden; and four sisters: Judy Head of Crossett, Rhonda Rouse of Fort Worth, TX, Dovie Bussell of El Dorado, and Tammy Bussell of Fouke.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 7, in the Beech Street Baptist Church with Horace Dunn and Gene Thomas officiating. Pallbearers were Billy Joe Rouse, Richard Head, Chris Head, Stephen Johnson, Justin Jeffress, and Ricky Purifoy. Interment followed services at Unity
Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funcral Home of Crossett. Memorials may be made to Gideons International.

Evelyn Deloris Arnold
Evelyn Deloris Arnold, 60, of Hamburg died Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. A native of Summerville, TN, and a Hamburg resident for the past 35 years, she was a retired cook and a member of the Soldiers Chapel A. M. E. Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Hattie Hutchins Ray; two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Presiding Elder Samuel Arnold, Sr.; three sons, Samuel and LaDarian Arnold of Hamburg and Raymond Arnold of Los Angeles, CA; one stepson, Lawrence Arnold of Dallas, TX; two daughters, Sharon Whitaker and Meyonna Arnold of Hamburg; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Cromwell of Fayetteville, NC, and Chenelle Carter of Houston, TX: three brothers, Van Gray of Summerville, TN, Esau Gray of Memphis, TN, and Joel Gray of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Lula Pearl Crout and Josephine and Mary Sue Morrow of Memphis, TN; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were planned for 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, in the Gates Chapel A. M. E. Church with Presiding Elder Samuel Arnold officiating. Pallbearers were to be Adolphus Daniels, Jack Hill, Larry Strong, Rev. Nolan Watson and Rev. Jessie Washington. Burial was to follow services at the Johnson Memorial Cemetery.
