Mrs. Carrie Courson Hill
Mrs. Carrie (Moner) Courson Hill, 86, of Hamburg died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at the North Monroe Hospital in Monroe, LA. Mrs. Hill was a native of Ashley County and a resident of Hamburg for most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamburg and a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her husband, Norwood N. Hill in 1977; a grandson, Phillip N. Laskey in 1988; her parents, Bunyan A. & Bertha Richards Courson; two brothers, B.A. Courson Jr. and Harry Courson and a sister, Jane Modell Bunn.
She is survived by a son, William A. Hill and his wife, Nancy of Turtle Lake, WI; twin daughters, Linda Harville and Winda Laskey and her husband, Ray, all of Hamburg; a foster son, Jimmy Lloyd of Dierks; a brother, Richard Courson of Hamburg; four sisters, Nell Davis of Hamburg, Virginia Riley of Little Rock, Peggy Echols & Mary Sivils, both of Monticello; four grandchildren, Karen Hill Bruckner, Russell R. Harville, Vicki Laskey Pennington and Dee Dee Harville Smith, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 16, at the First Baptist Church of Hamburg with Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Pallbearers were Don & Bobby Davis, Jeff Grice, John, Wayne & Paul Courson and Rick Woods. Interment was at the Pinewood Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hamburg, P.O. Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646 or to the American Lung Association, 211 Natural Resources Dr., Little Rock, AR 72205-9869.

Ethel Margaret Madden
Ethel Margaret Madden, 80, of Crossett died Friday, March 17, 2000, at the Crossett Leisure Lodge where she had lived for four years and had been a tremendous help to other patients. Born April 2, 1919, to Gus, Sr., and Molly Ann Jeffress Culbreath, she was a homemaker and a charter member of the Beech Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nicki McLain of Houston, TX, and her husband, Hugh Madden.
Survivors are a daughter, Leah Chandler of Deatsville, AL; a brother, Gus E. Culbreath, Jr., of Crossett; three sisters, Betty Briggs of Crossett, Margie Kalil of Monroe, LA, and Barbara Flemister of Monroe, LA; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, March 20, in the Beech Street Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Vest officiating. Pallbearers were Tommy Lee, Bill Whittington, Raymond Pitchford, Red Wells, Armon Little and Jim Bob Godwin.
Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Margurite Pauline Murphy
Margurite Pauline Murphy, 83, of Crossett died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Born January 17, 1917, to John E. and Syleathe Annie Walser Carter in Ashley County, she worked as an inspector at Chase Bag Company for ten years and was a member of the Wallers Chapel Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Frank Carter, and her husband, German Murphy.
Survivors include a daughter, Margurite Murphy; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy Nute and Jessie Carter; a sister and brother-in-law, Ione and Luke Clark, all of Crossett; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, in the Wallers Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Pat Wilkerson officiating. Pallbearers were Colvin Shivers, Steven and Jason Carter, Jonathan Moss, Jim Towers and Mike Avery. Honorary pallbearers were George Murphy, Bobby Jenkins, Lexie Rickman, Lemmie Miller, Charles Barnett, Jerry Lynn Swan, Jimmy Murphy and Bobby Glen Murphy.
Burial followed services at the Crossroads Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Mrs. Mattie Burgess
Mrs. Mattie Burgess, 82, of Parkdale, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg. Mrs. Burgess was a native of Wilmot, a resident of Parkdale for most of her life, a homemaker, and a member of the Parkdale United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bishop & Effie Simons Matheny; a sister and a brother.
She is survived by her husband, Houston "Red" Burgess of Parkdale; a daughter, Barbara Boyce of Van Alstyne, TX; a brother, Boyd H. Matheny of Powell, TN; a sister, Laura Maxwell of Crossett; a grandson, Mike A. Lamberth of Austin, TX; two great-grandsons, Rayan & Dylan Lamberth and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m., Friday, March 10, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Rev. John Henley officiating. Pallbearers were Ralph Sewell, Louis Burgess, Ricky Maxwell, Charles Burgess, Sammy Burgess and Mike Lambert. Interment followed services at the Parkdale Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University Ave., Little Rock, AR 72207.
