Mrs. Bayda Hill Lawrence
Mrs. Bayda Hill Lawrence, 96, of Portland, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. Mrs. Lawrence was a native of Ashley County, a resident of Portland since 1985 and a resident of Boydell for many years. She was a homemaker, a retired teacher, a member of the Portland Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the
Eastern Star, Delta Chapter 571. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert O. Lawrence, in 1997; a son, Joseph Lavern Lawrence in 1984; her parents, Jess & Amzie Smith Hill; a sister, Hazel Hill; a brother, Carlton Hill and an infant sister.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Robert Lawrence and his wife, Dian, of Jonesboro and Carlton "Buddy" Lawrence and his wife, Mary, of Portland; a daughter, Mary Beth Kelley and her husband, Ray, of Dermott; two sisters, Mildred Dew and Anna Jo Farrar, both of Crossett; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 9, at the Portland Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Selby and Rev. Ricky Burke officiating. Pallbearers were Ron Miller, H. T. Cunningham, Bill Dew, Earl Farrar, Neal Farrar and Ben Lawrence, Jr. Interment followed services at the Trafalgar Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to

Lois Franklin Moyers
Lois Eva Franklin Moyers, 76, of Hamburg, widow of Hugh Curry "Doc" Moyers, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. Born July 4, 1923, near Berea to the late Chester A. and Mittie Belle Dickson Franklin, she was a homemaker and a retired nutrition aide for the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Snyder, the Colonel Francis Vivian Brooking chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Captain Charles Schreiner chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcella Franklin Stone and Mary Alice Franklin Dace, and a brother, Charles Hugh Franklin.
Survivors include a son, David Moyers and wife Carol of Hamburg; a daughter, Mary Lea Rieck and husband Peter of Martinez, GA; three brothers-in-law, T. E Moyers of Snyder, A. P. "Bud" Moyers of Lake Village and Donald Dace of Heber Springs; a sister-in-law, Ann Franklin of Mobile, AL; four grandsons, Michael Moyers of Hamburg and John, Andy and Stephen Rieck of Martinez, GA; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Rose Rieck of Martinez, GA, as well as her nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, in the Hamburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Billy R. Carpenter officiating. Grandsons and great-nephews Brad Shiver, Jeff Carpenter, and George, Bill, Trey and Greg Moyers served as pallbearers. Burial followed services at the Mount Olive Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Thelma Atkinson
Thelma Atkinson, 77, of Camden died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at the Ouachita County Medical Center. She was retired from Hurley Press and was a member of the Hillside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, U. L. "Shorty" Atkinson.
Survivors are two daughters, Betty Carter of Crossett and Linda Meeks of Camden; two sisters, Edna Mae Barrett of Vandervoort and Lucille Duncan of Cove; a brother, Jackie Smedley of Hatfield; four grandchildren, Angela Terrell of Pine Bluff, Brent Stafford of Camden, Shannon Hawkins of Woodstock, VA, and Daniel Lyons of Garland, TX; and three great-grandchildren, Kohly and Keesa Hawkins of Woodstock, VA, and Gage Terrell of Pine Bluff.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, March 3, in the Hillside Baptist church with burial following 3 p.m. services at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove. Arrangements were by Proctor Funeral Home of Camden.
Mr. Udell A. Chadwick
Mr. Udell A. Chadwick, 80, of Hamburg died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. A native of Crossett and a resident of the Shiloh community outside Hamburg for the past 40 years, he was a retired farmer and an U. S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member and Sunday School teacher, and for many years, directed the Sunday School at the Shiloh Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Katty Reid Chadwick; a grandson, Bryan Bain Chadwick; a brother, T. B. Chadwick; and a sister, Betty Chavis.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gwen McDougald Chadwick of Hamburg; two sons, Max Chadwick and wife Sandy of Hamburg and Dennis Chadwick and wife June of Crossett; a sister, Jeanell Emory of Hamburg; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eleven step-great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, in the Shiloh Baptist Church with Revs. Jimmy Bates, Mike Titsworth and Ed Gulledge officiating. Pallbearers will be Jim Stephenson, Roger Chavis, Marion and Hershel Kelley, Chad Higginbotham and Mark McDougald. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean, Wayne, Charles and Bobby Chadwick, Roger, Norwood and Ronnie McDougald, Downey Bowden, Royce, Wesley and Mike Harville, and Richie and Freddie Emory. Burial will follow services at the Flat Creek Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
