Famous "Porkchop" Pickins
Famous "Porkchop" Pickins, 70, of Crossett died Saturday, February 12, 2000, at the Leisure Lodge. He was born March 29, 1929, in Homer, LA, and was a retired cook.
Survivors are a daughter, Kathy Lewis of Las Vegas, NV; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Childs of Crossett; three brothers, Willie D. and Edgar Battle of Las Vegas and Willie Battle of Houston, TX; a sister, Pearl Battle of Los Angeles, CA; and three grandchildren. Grave-side services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 19, at the Forrest Grove Cemetery in Homer, LA, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Beverly Ann Poss Price
Beverly Ann Poss Price, 66, of Shreveport, LA, died Monday, February 21, 2000. She was born September 14, 1933, in Oklahoma City, OK, and lived in Warren and Hamburg until moving to Monroe, LA, in 1992. She relocated to Shreveport last spring to live near her youngest son and his family. She was the oldest child of a Methodist minister, born to the late Thomas Gaston and Hazel Meek Poss. She marriage the late Gordon Stephens Price of Cornersville in 1953. She was active in her church and community through the years.
Survivors are two sons, Stephen Price of Hattiesburg and Keith Price of Shreveport; five grandchildren, William and Thomas Price of Hattiesburg, Brittany Rae Price of Greenwood, IN, and Emily Marien and Ryan Price of Shreveport; two brothers, Richard Poss of Monroe and John Poss of Little Rock; three nieces and three nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation was planned for 5:30-8:30 Tuesday, February 22, in the Frazier Funeral Home in Warren. Funeral services were planned for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, in the First United Methodist Church in Warren with burial following at the Prosperity Methodist Church in Pansy.
Mr. Ruben Salazar
Mr. Ruben Salazar, 40, of Hamburg died Wednesday, February 16, 2000, in Desha County as the result of a logging accident. A native of Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico, he had lived in Hamburg for the past year and was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He was a saw operator for Moyers Logging of Montrose.
Survivors include his wife, Silvia Cuellar Salazar; two sons, Rene and Louis Salazar; a daughter, Rosi Salazar; his father, Miguel Salazar; four sisters, Flora, Aida, Ines and Martha Salazar, all of Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico; four brothers, Juan Salazar and Manuel of Sialo and Guadalupe and Blas Salazar of Hamburg.
Rosary services were at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 20, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with a funeral mass at 4 p.m. with Father Neil Pezzulo officiating. Interment will be Friday, February 25, in the Silao Cemetery in Mexico, with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Mrs. Ione M. Scott
Funeral services for Mrs. Ione M. Scott, 90, of Farmerville, LA, were at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2000, at the Farmerville First Baptist Church with Bro. David Martin officiating. Burial followed at the Farmerville City Cemetery with arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home.
Mrs. Scott, who died Wednesday, February 16, 2000, was a native of Ashley County, a retired secretary for the State Department of Public Welfare, a member of the Farmerville First Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class, a charter member of the Union General Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a Girl Scout leader with the Silver Waters Girl Scout Council. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Scott, and a daughter, Jackie Jean Fischer.
Survivors are a son, Jimmy Scott and wife Beth of Spearsville, LA, a daughter, Becky Damschen and husband Harv of Roseburg, OR; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Joe Schick, Stein Baughman, Jr., Fred Stewart, Dewitt Crow, Ted Lamprich and Wayne Giddens.
