William Edward "Buddy" Upshaw
William Edward "Buddy" Upshaw, 54, of Crossett died Sunday, January 30, 2000, at his home. Born October 10, 1945, in Bastrop, LA, to David and Mary Woods Upshaw, he was a back tender for Georgia Pacific Paper Operations and a member of the West Crossett Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Mitch and Darrell Upshaw of Silsbee, TX; a daughter, Dana Upshaw of Crossett; two brothers, Johnny Upshaw of Hermitage and Kevin Upshaw of Eva Dale, TX; a sister, Kim Taylor of Eva Dale, TX; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p. m. Tuesday, February 1, in the West Crossett Missionary Baptist Church with Thad Douglas officiating. Pallbearers were James Coody, Paul McClain, Henry Ray Sowyers, Herman Jackson, Raymond Pitchford, Jimmy Grelly, Floyd Stephenson, Richard Barnett, Buck Fryar and Donny Ray Lowry.
Burial followed services at the Gravel Ridge
Cemetery near Hermitage, with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Mrs. Katie Berry Ware
Mrs. Katie Berry Ware, 89, of Fountain Hill died Sunday, February 6, 2000, at the Medical Center of South Arkansas in El Dorado. A native of Hamburg and a life-long resident of Fountain Hill, she was a member of the Fountain Hill Baptist Church and was retired from Burlington Industries. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton L. Ware; her parents, Edward and Susan Anna Odom Berry; two sisters, Vennie Mae Keene and Virgie Haney; a brother, Clifton Berry; and a nephew, Billy Berry.
Survivors include a nephew, Charles Keene of Crossett; two nieces, Lois Haney of Portland, Maine, and Fay Sparks of Zachary, LA; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, in the Fountain Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Elton officiating. Pallbearers were to be Carl Sivils, Dennis Thurman, Kerry Yelvington, Gerald White, Randy Keene and Johnny Kelly. Honorary pallbearers were to be Omer and Sterling White, J. B. Oglesby, Bobby Allison, Leon Roberts, Wayne Burch, V. W. Cason and Bobby Graham. Burial was to follow services at the Flat Creek Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Flat Creek Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. Kerry Yelvington, 161 Ashley Road 81 East, Hamburg, AR 71646.

Mrs. Claressa Ann Hartley
Mrs. Claressa Ann Barker Hartley, 45, of Hamburg died Thursday, January 27, 2000, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. A native of East St. Louis, IL, and a Hamburg resident for the past 25 years, she attended the Eden Baptist Church and was retired from the Hamburg Shirt Factory. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Smart, and a brother, Charley G. Barker.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Lee Hartley; a daughter, Kendra Marie Hartley, both of Fountain Hill; her parents, Charley and Wanda Hicks Barker of Hamburg; two brothers, Gary D. and Phillip S. Barker of Collinsville, IL; two sisters, Kathy Norrell and Rhonda Sawyer of Hamburg; two grandchildren, Destiny Neshea Hartley and Adam Tyler Choate; 21 nieces and nephews and ten great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Revs. Mike Titsworth and Charles Pullin officiating. Pallbearers were to be Shane Hartley, Hank and Jimmy Don Norrell, Brad Sawyer, Shane Sivils and Shane Rickman. Burial was to follow services at the Eden Cemetery.

Harry Buford Hill
Harry Buford Hill, 76, of Eudora died Monday, January 24, 2000, at the Baptist Medical Center. Born in Dry Bayou on December 23, 1923, to the late Henry and Anna Bell Hill, he was an U. S. Navy veteran of the Pacific Campaign during World War II, a retired farmer and member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he was a men's Sunday School class teacher for 30 years. He was also a member of the Scottish Rites of Freemasonry, F&AM #13 of Portland, the Association of Quorum Courts, and Delta Chapter 571 of the Order of Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Turner Butler Hill, Albert Gilbert "Dub" Hill and Leroy Hill; and three sisters, Viola Ferrell, Harvie Williamson and Essie Mays.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Louise Hill; two sons, Johnny Allen of Bridge City, TX, and Dennis Allen of Peterborough, NH; a sister, Gladys Blackwell of Hamburg; six grandchildren, Melissa Taylor of Port Arthur, TX, Brandy Phillips of Bridge City, Tina Allen of Houston, TX, Johnny Allen, Jr, of Bridge City, Shawn Allen of Atlanta, GA, and Shera Allen Brown of Mitford, NH; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, in the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Sanders Brooks officiating. Pallbearers were Lonnie Knight, Woody West, Tom Brady, Tommy Poole, Kenny Clark and Gilmer Whittington.
Burial followed services at the Mount Carmel
Cemetery in Eudora, directed by Steele Funeral Home of Lake Village.
