Rhonda Annette Powell
Rhonda Annette Powell, 54, of Crossett died Monday, January 24, 2000, at the Crossett Leisure Lodge. A life-long resident of Ashley County, she was a retired secretary for the Crossett Public Schools and a member of the Rolfe Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She was the church treasurer for 22 years and the pianist for the past 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Kana Melverta Holland Blake; and a sister, Elizabeth Meredith.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Ray Powell; two sons, Bobby S. "Bo" Powell and wife Sandra and Brandon Keith Powell and wife Brandy; a brother, Douglas Blake, Jr., all of Crossett; two sisters, Oma Lee Head of Victoria, TX, and Jean White of Bastrop, LA; and a granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Powell.
Funeral services were planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, in the Rolfe Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Revs. Carlton White and Kenneth Watt officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Pallbearers were to be Wayne Herron, Keith Forrest, W. D. Herron, Mike White, Wilburn Seamons and Phillip Lum. Honorary pallbearers were to be Frankie White, Jimmy Kelley, Ronald Ricks and LaDon Martin. Burial will follow services at the Antioch Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Rolfe Chapel Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 1404 Crossett, AR 71635.

Mr. W. A. Rutledge
Mr. W. A. Rutledge, 82, of Portland died Friday, January 21, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg. A native of West Monroe, LA, he was a resident of the Aulds community outside Portland since 1937 when he and his father homesteaded the family home place. He was a retired farmer and pipeline welder and an U. S. Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II. A member of the Aulds Baptist Church and the Pipeliners Union 798, he was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ara Armstrong Rutledge; a brother, Erskin Rutledge; and two sisters, Repta Tippen and Leola Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Baumann Rutledge; a son, William "Willie" Rutledge, Jr.; a brother, Roy Hill Rutledge; a sister, Elizabeth Bozeman Hamilton, all of Portland; and a grandson, Josh Hammond of Little Rock.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, January 24, in the Aulds Baptist Church with Revs. Ray Williams and E. W. Ricks officiating. Pallbearers were George Bozeman, David Ponder, Jake Gay, Donald M. Bozeman, and Bruce and John Paul Rutledge. Honorary pallbearers were Jeremy Dalton, Justin and Josh Carpenter, Leroy Matthews and George and David Rutledge.
Burial followed services at 3 p.m. Monday in the New Sardis Cemetery in West Monroe, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Marie Simpson
Marie Simpson, 82, of Crossett died Saturday, January 22, 2000, at the Crossett Leisure Lodge. Born in Crossett April 12, 1917, to L. L. and Braska Standard Kelley, she worked at the Minit Shop for many years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Simpson.
Survivors are a brother, Willis Kelley of Kennett, MO: a sister, Jayne Pennington of Crossett; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Monday, January 24, in the First United Methodist Church of Crossett with Rev. Larry Williams and Bro. Bobby Pennington officiating. Pallbearers were Philip, Jerry and Bobby Pennington, Laron Burke, Tommy Kelley and Rex Dodson.
Burial followed services at the Lakewood Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Mrs. Edith Brown
Mrs. Edith Brown, 93, of Hamburg died Thursday, January 13, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg. Mrs. Brown was a native and life-long resident of Hamburg, a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Brown, in 1984; a daughter, Bettye Hobbs in 1993; two grandsons, David Ray Brown and Greg Brown; and her parents, John and Martha Sedberry Hill.
Survivors are five sons, Cecil Brown of Farmerville, LA, Bill Brown of Bastrop, LA, Bobby Brown of Little Rock, Jimmy Brown of Clarksville, TX and John Brown of Cupertino, CA; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 15 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington and Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Brown, Charlie Spencer, Dierke Hobbs, Richard Byrd, Dennis Byrd and Milton Raulston. Interment was at the Hamburg Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646.
