Leslie L. Hoover
Leslie L. Hoover, age 89, of Crossett died Friday, January 7, 2000, at the Crossett Leisure Lodge. She was born February 20, 1910, in Ashley County to Bill and Vesta O'Neal Couey. Mrs. Hoover was a retired telephone operator, and a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Hoover, and her daughter, Mary Ruth Gates.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Joe Smith and his wife, Connie, of Sherwood; four granddaughters, Vicki Trammel of Crossett, Terri Koontz of Dallas, TX, Lisa Bohannon and Susan Risinger, both of Spearsville, LA; and nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Grave-side services were held Saturday, January 8, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pinewood Memorial Park with David Newberry officiating, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Mrs. Myrtle W. Jordan
Mrs. Myrtle W. Jordan, 97, of North Little Rock died in the early evening hours of Sunday, January 9, 2000. She was born in Southeast Ashley County to Rev. Neal and Bess Walker and was the last surviving child of that union. She was a member of the Levy Baptist Church where she served as W. M. U. president, senior adult Bible teacher and associate Bible teacher for the outreach department of the church. A member of the Retired Teachers Association, she spent 42 years as a public school teacher in Ashley County. At age 46, she attained a B. S. degree from the University of Arkansas-Monticello and at age 58, received a master's degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. The last 26 years of her career were spent in the Wilmot Public Schools, including 21 years as grade school principal. She and her late husband, Emmitt G. Jordan, moved to North Little Rock where she lived until her death. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Survivors are a son, Leland D. Jordan and wife Louise; granddaughters Kathleen Blackman and Dutchie Wilson; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, in the Levy Baptist Church. Burial will follow services at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pinewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Levy Baptist Church Robe Fund, 3501 Pike Avenue, North Little Rock, AR 72118. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the North Little Rock Funeral Home at 1921 Main Street.

Mr. Robert R. "Ray" Phillips
Mr. Robert R. "Ray" Phillips, 99, of Fountain Hill died Friday, January 7, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Crossett. He was a native and life-long resident of Fountain Hill until the last seven years when he lived in Crossett, a member of the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church, and was co-owner of the Phillips Brothers General Merchandise store in Fountain Hill for 50 years and also the Phillips Brothers Gin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Avery Lee and Mary Lucie Downey Phillips; two sisters, Ethel Lee Phillips Pierce and Mary Margaret Phillips Knight; and a brother, Lucian M. Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ora Hester Phillips of Fountain Hill; three sons, James Avery Phillips and wife Maxine of Houston, TX, William R. "Bill" Phillips and wife JoAnn and Millard E. Phillips and wife Edith of Crossett; two daughters, Elsa Raye Cason and husband V. W. of Fountain Hill and Gladys Hester Sanders and husband Robert of Lubbock, TX; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, a niece Virginia Pierce Gatewood of Warren; a sister-in-law, Margaret Chenault Phillips of Fountain Hill; and many cousins.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 8, in the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church with Revs. Bill Elton and Gene Gregory officiating. Pallbearers were Terry, Neal and Stuart Phillips, Tim Vaden, Bill and Dale Hester, and Tim Krisell. Honorary pallbearers were Robert A. and Edward Phillips, Frank E. Denson, Bobby Graham, Sterling and Omar White. Burial followed services at the Flat Creek Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church, c/o Mr. V. W. Cason, 213 Ashley Road 482, Fountain Hill, AR 71642.

Mr. Jessie Lee Tucker
Mr. Jessie Lee Tucker, 42, of the Pine Hill community near Hamburg, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Beverly Healthcare of Hamburg. Mr. Tucker was a lifelong resident of Ashley County and a member of the Campground African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was proceeded in death by his parents: Troy and U.Z. Tucker; two brothers, Larry and Monel Tucker; and one sister, Uzell Tucker.
He is survived by three brothers, Vasco Tucker of Pine Bluff, Carle Lee Tucker of Crossett, and Allen Tucker of Hamburg, and two sisters, Lorise Jones of Chicago, IL, and Alice Hayes of East St. Louis, IL.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 5, at 1:00 p.m. at the Campground A.M.E. Church with the Rev. A.L. Owens officiating. Pallbearers were John B. Gibbs, Lindburg Gibbs, Richard Gibbs, Billy Gibbs, Johnny Lee Hampton and Paul Tucker. Burial followed services at the Carlock Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
