Harold Edward Anderson
Harold Edward Anderson, 79, of Crossett died Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. A native of Wabbaseka, he was a retired railroad worker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Crossett. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Anderson; his parents, two sisters, Ally Mary Carter and Cynthia Callion; and two brothers, Robert Simpson and L. D. Simpson.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Hattie Mae McDonald of Crossett; a special niece, Dorothy Savage of Crossett; two special nephews, DeJuan Simpson and Theodis Savage of Crossett, and many other relatives.
The remains were cremated.
Dolphus Carey
Dolphus Carey, 95, of Wilmot died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS. A life-long resident of Wilmot, he was a retired janitor for the Wilmot School District and a member of the Shady Grove A. M. E. Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Lee Carey on April 6, 1996; his parents, Edma and Paliney Botney Carey; a daughter, Agatha Coleman; and two sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Hazel Ross of El Dorado; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Friday, June 23, in the Shady Grove A. M. E. Church with Rev. Karen Jackson officiating. Pallbearers were Andrew Metcalf, Frank Romer, John Metcalf and Dewayne Watt. Burial followed services at the Jim Smith Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Mr. Robert Council, Jr.
Mr. Robert Council, Jr., 76, of Hamburg died Monday, June 19, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. A retired sawmill worker, he was a life-long resident of Ashley County and a member of the Epistles of God Church of Deliverance. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Council; his parents, Robert and Cleo Settlers Council; two brothers, Willie Council and Henry Lindsey; and two sisters, Doris Bell and Lula Mae Robinson.
Survivors include two brothers, James and Johnny Council of Hamburg, and one sister, Annie Perine of Carlton, AL.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 22, in the Cromwell Funeral Home chapel in Hamburg with Rev. Mary Arnold officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Burns, Robert Robinson, Lawrence Tucker, Roger Bryant, Junior Simpson and Ray Watson. Burial followed services at the Johnson Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Evelyn Stokes Eastwood
Mrs. Evelyn Stokes Eastwood, 91, of Hamburg, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center.She was a native of Boone County, MO; a resident of Hamburg since 1996 and a former resident of Mabank, TX. When she was 17 years old, she hitchhiked from St. Louis, MO to Seattle, WA to do her part for her country by working in the shipyards during World War II. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Mabank, TX, and a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by three loving husbands, Bruce Diller, Marty McAlese and Carl "Buster" Eastwood, a son, LeRoy Diller, her parents, Jess & Dora Stokes, six brothers and one sister.
Survivor include three step-children and their spouses, Glennis & Davis Holland of Hamburg, Bonnie and Harry Joe Tumlison of Crossett, and Ricky & Delores Eastwood of Florence, WI; a brother, Lynn Stokes of DeSoto, TX; eight step-grandchildren, Deen Griffith and his wife, Jamie who lived with her, Davie Holland of Hamburg, Stacey White & Casey High of Crossett, Paul Ricks of Sarasoto, FL, Heather Eastwood of Florence, WI; Michael Holland of Monroe, LA and Lee Holland of Jones, OK; twelve step-great-grandchildren, two of which lived with her, Trent Griffith and Bradley Leveritt, numerous nieces & nephews; a very special friend and the mother of her step-children, Florence Yates of Fountain Hill.
She willed her body to the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock for the betterment of modern medicine. As per her request, there were no services. In lieu of flowers, her children ask that memorials be made to the Janet Brooks Memorial or to a favorite charity.
