Betty Jane Fuel
Betty Jane Fuel, 70, of Portland died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the West Carroll Hospital in Oak Grove, LA. She was a housewife.
Survivors include her husband, James Richard Fuel of Portland; a son, Marvin James Thompson of Portland; a brother, Buck Godbold of Pine Bluff; three sisters, Vera Weathers of Slidell, LA, Myrtle Warren of Eudora and Glenda Cotner of Pine Bluff; and six grandchildren.
Grave-side services were at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, at the Jennie Cemetery with Rev. Roger West officiating. Arrangements were by Bishop Funeral Home of Lake Village.
Betty Nell Cobbs Harris
Betty Nell Cobbs Harris, 47, of Crossett died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. A life-long resident of Crossett, she was employed with the Arkansas Department of Health and was a member of the new Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and the senior choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, Modell and Ruby Cobbs Youngblood, and a brother, Ervin Hodges.
Survivors include her husband, Alonzo "Pete" Harris; one son, Jacquario T. Harris of Philadelphia, PA; three daughters, Royta Youngblood and Raimonkeal Harris Moore of Crossett and Tiffany Youngblood of Hampton, VA; three brothers, Henry L. Hodges of California, Charles Cobb of Arkadelphia and Gerald Cobbs of Tacoma, WA; one sister, Dorothy Coleman of Monrovia, CA; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, in the New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Atkins officiating. Pallbearers were Joe Monroe, Greg Parker, Gerald Brown, Gean Griffen, Dennis Girtman and Herman Madison. Honorary pallbearers were John Tate, Thomas Jones, De'Marco Hodges, Levell Hampton, Glenda Ray Johnson, Kelvin Eldridge, Phil Hodge and Crossett High School 1971 class members. Burial followed services at the Westview Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Robert W. "Bob" Johnson
Robert W. "Bob" Johnson, 91, of Crossett died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at his home. Born July 27, 1908, in Ashley County to Augustus Harward and Martha "Mattie" Perdue Johnson, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett where he was active in the Men's Bible Class. He began work in Crossett as a forester for The Crossett Company and retired from Georgia-Pacific Corp. in 1972. He was past board chairman of the Antioch Cemetery Trust, a former member of the Crossett Area Chamber of Commerce, SCORE, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of the SVS Hunting Club. He was interested in the preservation of wildlife and natural resources as well as local history. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wayne Johnson, and a grandson, Robert Wayne Johnson, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Johnson of Crossett; three daughters, Carolyn Adams of Antioch, IL, Millie Petrie of Bartlesville, OK, and Sarah Richardson of Searcy; one son, James R. "Buddy" Johnson of Memphis, TN; one sister, Elizabeth Kitchens of Hamburg; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, in the First United Methodist Church of Crossett with Rev. Bill Williams officiating. Pallbearers were Harold Gene Kitchens, Aubry Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Gus Johnson, Lane Pierce, Bob Pierce, Johnny Pierce, Jimmy Meeks and Randall Meeks. Burial followed services at the Antioch Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Crossett, 500 Main Street, Crossett, AR 71635 or to the Antioch Cemetery Trust, 358 Marais Saline Road, Crossett, AR 71635.
Merle Jean Kemp
Merle Jean Kemp, 74, of Decatur, AL, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at her home. She was born July 13, 1925, to Howard and Helen McDougald Estelle. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur, AL, and was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard Kemp of Decatur, AL; two daughters, Janet L. Thompson of Decatur, AL, and Judith C. Burnett of Crossett; two brothers, Leland Estelle of Crossett and John W. Estelle of Salem, OR; a sister, Mary R. Lupa of Two Harbors, MN; a grandson, Brad Burnett of Long Island, NY; and a granddaughter, Kelly Burnett of Crossett.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Monday, June 26, in the chapel of First Baptist Church in Crossett with Rev. David Newberry officiating. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
