Mrs. Helen Wells
Mrs. Helen Wells, 74, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at her residence in Hamburg. Mrs. Wells was a native and former resident of El Dorado and a resident of Hamburg for a number of years. She was a member of the Green Grove Assembly of God in Strong. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Wells, in January, 2000, and her parents, Ed & Nancy Sisco Frisby.
She is survived by a daughter, Robbie Pryor of Hamburg; five grandchildren, John Pryor of Crossett, Justi Pryor of Monticello, Christy Thornton of Fort Worth, TX, Shawna Akers of Monroe, LA, and Kim Pryor of Hamburg; and three great-grandchildren, John Alexander Pryor and Justin & Dakota Dawson.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 8, at the Green Grove Assembly of God in Strong with Revs. Jimmy Adams and David Akers officiating. Pallbearers were Richard Myers, Larry Frisby, Jody Brannen, Justin Akers, Roger Wooten and John Pryor. Interment followed services at the Green Grove Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Ann Arnold Hastings
Ann Arnold Hastings, 76, of Crossett, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. She was born on July 26, 1923, in Yonkers, New York to LeGrand Jenks and Hazel Strang Arnold. Mrs. Hastings was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett, a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville School of Law, a Justice of the Peace and member of the Ashley County Quorum Court, a member of the League of Women Voters and an avid golfer. She was preceded in death by her husband W.E. "Ned" Hastings, and her brother, William S. Arnold.
Her survivors include one son, David Hastings of Cabot; two daughters, Laurie Ray of Monticello and Lynn Hastings of Dallas, TX; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday, June 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Crossett with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Crossett or a favorite charity.
LaVada Johnson
LaVada Johnson, 93, of Crossett died Thursday, June 8, 2000, in North Little Rock. Born November 6, 1906, in Alexandria, LA, to Winnick Buford and Lessie Randall Prudhomme, she was a former employee of Chase Bag, a certified welder in the California shipyards during World War II, a homemaker and a member of the Unity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death a son, Nelson Randall, Jr., and her husband, Braska Johnson.
Survivors include a son, Stanley Randall of Briceland, CA; a daughter, Verna Fay Johnson of Crossett; two sisters, Jimmie Lane Guinn of West Monroe, LA, and Juanita Bratton of Milsap, TX; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 10, in the Jones Funeral Home in Crossett with Revs. Lawrence Amos, Joey Meredith and Bob Lonidier officiating. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Ellis Melhart Moore
Ellis Melhart Moore, 79, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care of Crossett. A life-long resident of Crossett and a retired Georgia-Pacific paper mill supervisor, he was a World War II U. S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Blue Buck Hunting Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Wayman "BoBo" Moore; his parents, Willie and Mary Spencer Moore; two brothers, Adrian and George Moore; and two sisters, Lillian Pearson and Clovese Simpson.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mildred M. Moore; two sons, Marvin Angelo and wife Betty Moore and Larry and wife Yvonne Moore of Crossett; one daughter, Linda Walker of Kansas City, MO: one brother, Eric Moore of Crossett; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, June 9, in the Gates Chapel A. M. E. Church with Rev. Tyrone Broomfield officiating. Pallbearers were Robert Baldwin, Edgar Johnson, Jr., Joe Smith, Michael Scott, Sherman Dawkins and Roger Bryant. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Blue Buck Hunting Club. Burial followed services at the Westview Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
