Brenda Joyce Matthews
Brenda Joyce Matthews, 54, of Crossett died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at her home. She was born October 16, 1945, in Lake Village to Marie Cash and Lewis Larkin Matthews. She had survived cancer for ten years. She was a member of the Judson Baptist Church and loved crossword puzzles, cards, stuffed animals, jewelry and attending the Ashley County Sheltered Workshop.
Survivors include her parents, Lewis and Marie Matthews of Crossett; two brothers, Bobby Matthews and wife Joyce of Bedford Heights, OH, and Michael Lewis Matthews and wife Bonnie of Crossett; a sister, Louise Hollis and husband Benjie of Crossett; nieces Nevamarie Matthews of Ohio and Whitney Matthews and Dusti Blankenship of Crossett and great-nieces Tyler Bergeron and Jodie Blankenship of Crossett.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 21, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Roy Craig and E. W. Ricks officiating. Pallbearers were Henry Matthews, Pete Matthews, Franklin Ricks, Johnny Hennington, Alex Tyson and David Jones. Burial followed services at the Lick Prairie Cemetery.

Viola Inez Watkins
Viola Inez Watkins, 85, of Crossett died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at the Leisure Lodge. Born December 6, 1914, in Rison to Homer Wilson and Bertha Jane Hobson Hall, she was a member of the West Crossett Missionary Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Audrey Watkins, and a brother, Herman Hall.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Watkins and Doug Sipes, both of Crossett; four sisters, Vivian Walker and Lois Mercer of Crossett, Frances Carpenter of Monticello and Reba Minugh of Houston, TX; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, May 19, in the West Crossett Missionary Baptist Church with Harold Richardson, John Marlar and Steve Franklin officiating. Pallbearers were Woody Hall, Jim Toon, James Deal, Tommy Savage, Ralph Hall and George Walter.
Burial followed services at the Lakewood Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Mrs. Flora Mae White
Mrs. Flora Mae White, 83, of Hamburg died Monday, May 22, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg. A native and life-long resident of Hamburg, she was a homemaker and a life-long member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Tyler and Willie P. Bailiff White; three brothers, John W., J. D. and C. B. White; and a sister, Georgia Gardner.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald D. White of Hamburg; a son, James D. Harrison and wife Rosalyn of Crossett; a stepdaughter, Loyce Gail Anglin of Haynesville, LA; a sister, Bernice Teague of Hamburg; and two grandchildren, Jim Harrison of Denton, TX, and Kevin Harrison and wife Meridith of Monticello.
Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, in the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Meredith officiating. Pallbearers were to be Glen Farmer, Kenneth Leigh, Tommy Thompson, Lynn Croswell, Teddy Hickman and Kenny Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers were to be Susie Murphy, Bonnie Taylor, Faye Collins, Mildred Williams, Erma Johnson, Christine Moore, Shirley Scates, Billie Miller, Dorothy Miller and Youlanda Richardson. Burial was to follow services at the Antioch Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Memorials may be to Faith Promise, c/o Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 400 West Washington, Hamburg, AR 71646.

Fred Ester Wimberly
Fred Ester Wimberly, 80, of Crossett died Friday, May 19, 2000, at his residence. A life-long resident of Crossett, he was retired from the Georgia-Pacific paper mill and was a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, a member of the Blue Buck Deer Club, a Big Wheeler volunteer for Beverly Health Care, a Score volunteer for the Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge, a member of the AARP and a member of the Usher Board #1 at his church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude Pippen Wimberly; his parents, Charlie Ester and Lee Anna Lowery Wimberly; a sister, Eula Taylor; and a stepson, David Green.
Survivors are his wife, Ella Zine Wimberly of Crossett; three sons, Darford Williams of Crossett, Arnold Williams of Los Angeles, CA, and Joe Lee Green of Bastrop, LA; a daughter, Gloria Parnell of Aurora, IL; two sisters, Rebecca Burks and Jessie B. Martin of Crossett; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 27, in the New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. B. J. Jackson officiating. Pallbearers will be Bebe Reed, Roger Bryant, Augustus Hill, William Haynes, Robert Baldwin and Jessie Lowe. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the New Bethel Usher board, the Blue Buck Deer Club members and cousins and grandsons. Burial will follow services at the Westview Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
