Jordan McKenzie Mills
Jordan McKenzie Mills, 17 months, of Crossett died Thursday, March 29, 2000, at her residence. Survivors include her parents, Albert Ray and Rhonda Kaye Foles Mills; a sister, Serena Mills; her grandparents, Murray and Billie Cockrell, Wallace Mills and Palestine Mills, all of Crossett; and Ron and Kaye Foles of San Antonio, TX; and her in-home nurses, Kim Ray, Shay Craig and Amber Dodderee.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, in the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. David Henderson officiating. Pallbearers were Calvin Kinnaird, Larry Lane, Floyd Lott and Eddie Goodson. Burial followed services at the Antioch Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Mrs. Julia Alice Oakleaf
Mrs. Julia Alice Wilcoxon Oakleaf, 80, of Crossett died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Little Rock, following a year-long struggle with lung cancer. Born in Crossett September 16, 1919, she was the last surviving of five children of Levi & Frankie Corgan Wilcoxon. She was the widow of Ernest Johan Oakleaf, a native of Malmo, Sweden.
She was retired from the Crossett Public Schools where she had a long and distinguished career teaching elementary school and as an elementary guidance counselor and certified educational examiner. She was a graduate of the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, and also held a master's degree in elementary guidance counseling from Henderson State University.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett, a charter member of the Crossett Book Club, and in her younger days, an avid horsewoman and member of the Crossett Riding Club.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Ernest J. Oakleaf, Jr., her daughter-in-law, Dr. Zoe D. Oakleaf and her granddaughter, Alice Augusta Oakleaf, all of Little Rock. She is also survived by her childhood playmate, life-long friend and occasional companion, Bill Gates, of Gunnison, CO, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Grave-side funeral services with interment of ashes was be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1, in the Hamburg Cemetery with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University Ave., Little Rock, AR 72207 or to the First United Methodist Church, PO Box 738, Crossett, AR 71635.
Mary Irene Walsh
Mary Irene Walsh, 80, of Crossett died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. She was born on May 10, 1919, in Warren to Dewey Claire and Vera Beatrice St. John Pierce. Mrs. Walsh was preceded in death by her husband, T.M. "Duffy" Walsh, Jr., and a grandson, Scott Alan Courson.
Her survivors include: one son, Dewey Mack Walsh of Shreveport, LA; one daughter, Jean Courson of Crossett; one brother, D.C. Pierce of Crossett; one sister, Nell Reid of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, one step-grandchild and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Friday, March, 31 at the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Revss Jimmie Lewis and Lawrence Amos officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Walsh, Jack Walsh, Steve Courson, James Coody, Jamie Walsh, and Ben Walsh. Interment followed services at the Crossroads Cemetery.
Mary Ann Walt
Mary Ann Walt, 90, of Dumas died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Born April 13, 1909, to David Peter and Fannie Izora Miller in Hamburg, she was a graduate of Hamburg High School and Arkansas State Teachers College. A retired teacher and homemaker, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dumas, the Highway Garden Club of Little Rock, and the Desha Country Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Martin and David Walt of Dumas; five grandchildren, Lee, John David and Julie Beth Walt, Missie Walt Derryberry and Erica Walt Cathey; and three great-grandchildren, Tiffany Walt, Martin Lee Walt, III and Allie Greeson Derryberry.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in the First United Methodist Church in Dumas with Revs. Buddy Ratliff and John David Walt officiating. Pallbearers were Rick, Jim and Bill Greeson, John Moffett and Richard and Page Walt. Burial followed services at the Walnut Lake Cemetery at Dumas with arrangements were by Griffin Funeral Home of Dumas. Memorials may be made to the Choir Fund at the First United Methodist Church of Dumas.
