Mrs. Mae B. Wilson
Mrs. Mae B. Wilson, 94, died Friday, March 31, 2000 at her residence in Portland. Mrs. Wilson was a native of Hollis, a resident of Portland for the past 58 years, a homemaker, and a member of the Portland Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Wilson in 1972; a daughter Virgie Hogue of Bastrop, LA; a son, Oscar Wilson of Crossett; her parents, Joseph & Biddie Hill Blair; two brothers, Lonnie & Don Blair and a sister, Eda Tillery.
She is survived by three sons; Bill, Noel & George Wilson, all of Portland; three daughters, Pat Temples of Birmingham, AL, Ruby Bennett of Portland and Syble Christmas of Bastrop, LA; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 1, in the Portland Baptist Church with Rev. E. W. Ricks officiating. Pallbearers are grandsons-in-law, Ronald Pettis, Richard Maxwell, Troy Bryan, Jack Frost, Larry England, Cris Floyd, William Fuller and Jackie White. Interment followed services at the Portland Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Portland Baptist Church, PO Box 86, Portland, AR 71663.
Savannah Barnes
Savannah Barnes, 51, of Hamburg died Monday, March 20, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. A life-long resident of Hamburg, she was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Mission Church of God in Christ. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice "Kitty" Lewis, and her father, Charles "Fat" Barnett.
Survivors include her husband, Clevester Barnes of Hamburg; two sons, Herman Madison of Crossett and David Dennis of Hamburg; one stepdaughter, Evelyn Barnes of Little Rock; six brothers, Willie Ashford of Crossett, Jessie Ray Williams of Shreveport, LA, Johnny Ashford of Little Rock, M. C. Barnett of Miami, FL, and Charles and Calvin Barnett of Hamburg; and three sisters, Alice Jackson of Crossett, Lora Brooks of Memphis, TN, and Lisa Barnett of Hamburg.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, in the Mount Zion Baptist Church with Eld. Jasper Mays officiating. Pallbearers were Lawrence Tippitt, James Prewitt, Larry Works, Earl Jacob, Augustus Hill and Jack Hill. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Cox, Jr., Willie Jackson, Jessie James, William Haynes, Phillip Mays and Eddie Mays. Burial followed services in the Phillip Grove Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Antonio Cobbs
Antonio Cobbs, 32, of Oklahoma City, OK, formerly of Parkdale, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at the Columbia University Hospital in Oklahoma City. A native of Ashley County, he was a department manager for Wal-Mart and a member of the Penny Chapel C. M. E. Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Antonia Tonesha Cobbs; his mother, Mary Magelean Burns and his stepfather, Clarence Burns of Parkdale; two brothers, Derrick Parker of Oklahoma City and Terrence Burns of Hot Springs; a sister, Pamela Goodwin of Parkdale; five aunts and four uncles.
Funeral services were planned for Thursday, March 30, at 1 p.m. on the Penny Chapel C. M. E. Church with Rev. Willie Mae Goodwin officiating. Pallbearers were to be Randy Smith, Steve Campbell, John Hamilton, Curt Smith, Randy Goodwin and Melvin Goodwin. Burial was to follow services at the Zion Hill Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Mr. Herman C. Cooper
Mr. Herman C. Cooper, 53, of Crossett died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born November 16, 1946, to L. C. Sr., and Gladys Harris Cooper in DeQueen, he was a retired machinist for Mechanisms, Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Jane Cooper; two sons, Dale Cooper and Eddie Tew; a daughter, Charlene Tew; his mother, Gladys Cooper, all of Crossett; a brother, L. C. Cooper, Jr., and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Rev. Larry Williams officiating. Pallbearers were Jim Thomas, Tod Thurman, Steve Adkins, Kevin Cosby, Daniel Chisholm and Ernie Boseman. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
