Mrs. Trudy Scott
Mrs. Trudy Scott, 87, of Hamburg died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Mrs. Scott was a native of the Shiloh community outside of Hamburg; a resident of Hamburg for the past 45 years, a homemaker and an Avon representative for the past 35 years. She was a former night hostess for Jones Funeral Home and an insurance sales person for Ashley Life Insurance Company for many years. She was recognized as one of Arkansas Volunteers of the Year in 1981 by KARK Channel 4 in Little Rock for her volunteer work at the Leisure Lodge Nursing Home in Hamburg. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was the secretary of the Nursery Department for the past 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Scott in 1970; a son, James "Jim" Scott in 1989; a grandson, Russell Scott Maxwell in 1954; her parents, Joseph M. & Ida Chavis Wigley; eight brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a son, Louis Scott and wife Cindy of Crossett; three daughters, Martha Kelley and husband Willie Claude, Betty Maxwell and husband John Henry, all of Hamburg, and Edith Phillips and husband Millard of Crossett; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Scott of Crossett; a brother, W. C. Wigley of Crescent City, CA; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 25, in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Pennington & Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Pallbearers were David Maxwell, Chris Kelley, Craig McRae, Sam Evans, Keith Long, Jack McDonald, Tim Vaden, Tim Krissell, Glyn Stell, Shelby Scott, Earl Murphey, Duane Snyder and Russell Scott. Honorary pallbearers were Dean Hill, Richard O'Neal, Billy McDonald, Charles Boothe and Ronnie LaGrone. Interment followed services at the Creek Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646 or to the Shiloh Baptist Church, c/o Mrs. Alisa Scott, 774 Ashley 81 E., Hamburg, AR 71646.

Ola Jones Serrett
Ola Jones Serrett, 87, of Monticello died Monday, March 20, 2000, at her home. She was born October 24, 1912, in Drew County to the late Fletcher and Hattie C. Jones. She was the widow of W. A. "Bill" Serrett, a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors are a sister, Doris Demaret of Oklahoma City, OK, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23, in the Stephenson-Dearman chapel in Monticello with Rev. Buddy Lemons officiating. Pallbearers were Jackie, Keith, Ricky, Brett, Robert, Randy and Jeff Burton. Burial followed services at the Hamburg Cemetery.

Mr. Arvil Taber
Mr. Arvil Taber, 59, of Little Rock died Saturday, March 25, 2000. He was retired from MacMillian-Bloedel Company.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Taber; his mother, Leona Taber of Little Rock; five brothers, Glenn and Tommy Taber of Little Rock and Cecil Leroy, Michael and Philip Taber of Benton; a sister, Beverly Lawrence of Bryant; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Albert Taber.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, in the Roller Drummond Southwest Chapel with Revs. Charles Atkinson and Jeff Alderman officiating followed by a 4 p.m. grave-side service at the Promise Land Cemetery near Hamburg.

Mr. George Watkins, Jr.
Mr. George Watkins, Jr., 47, of Parkdale died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. He was a life-long resident of Parkdale, a farmer laborer and a member of the Penny Chapel C. M. E. Church. He was preceded in death by his father, J. W. Watkins, and his mother, Mattie Shoulders.
Survivors include four brothers, Lloyd Collins of Crossett, Billy D. Hobbs of Chicago, IL, and Boyd Brown, Jr., and Derrick Brown, both of Parkdale; and six sisters, Blanch Adams, Magalene Burns, Lillie Cobbs, Pamela Carter and Virglean Brown, all of Parkdale, and Etta Robinson of Hamburg.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 26, in the Penny Chapel C. M. E. Church with Rev. Willie Mae Goodwin officiating. Pallbearers were Curtis Hiller, James Dillard, A. C. Campbell, Dennis Morris, Paul Pride and Jessie Parker. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Money and Lewis Mitchell. Burial followed services at the Zion Hill Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.

William "Bill" Avery
William "Bill" Avery, 82, of Crossett died Friday, September 22, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care in Lake Village. Born April 16, 1918, to Joe Nathaniel and Flora Della Owens Avery, he was a barber and accountant and a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mae Avery; a son, Lester Avery and wife Beth; a daughter, Janice Stratton and husband Donnie, all of Crossett; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 24, in the Mount Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Maxwell and Bro. Rawls Pierce officiating. Pallbearers were Jim Brooks, Dan Kersey, Jim Wooten, Bryan Bays, John Jacobs and Richard Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday School class and Lem Miller. Burial followed services at the Lakewood Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
