Connie Jean Holland Haskew
Connie Jean Holland Haskew, 34, of Crossett died Friday, August 25, 2000. Born December 27, 1965, to Joe and Lela Jean Elton Holalnd in Crossett, she was employed by Georgia-Pacific and was a member of Pleasant Lane Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lela Jean Holland. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Haskew II; a son, Ralph "Trey" Haskew III; a daughter, Hannah Lakin Holland, all of Lacey; her father, Joe R. Holland; two brothers, Richard and Dennis Holland, and many nieces and nephews, all of Crossett. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 27, in the Pleasant Lane Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Roberts and Rev. Wyers officiating. Pallbearers were Tim Poole, Dennis Alexander, Terry Ebarb, Johnny Robbins, Michael Adams and Matt Holland. Honorary pallbearers were Mike and Russell Poole. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Luther Azmon Hayes
Luther Azmon Hayes, 87, of Crossett, formerly of Warren, died Sunday, August 27, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Born October 31, 1912, to Will and Jennie Russell Hayes, he was a retired guard for the Bradley Sawmill and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Eujenior Hayes; a grandson, Terry Hines; and a great-grandson, Dakota Hines. Survivors include two sons, Sammy Joe Hayes of Warren and Rex Hayes of Branson, MO; a daughter, Denver Jeffers of Crossett; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Revs. Wayman Mann and John Reed officiating. Burial was to follow services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Mrs. Jewel Pennington
Mrs. Jewel Pennington, 84, of Hamburg died Thursday, August 24, 2000, at her residence in the Milo community. Mrs. Pennington was a native of Ashley County and a resident of the Milo community outside of Hamburg all of her life. She was a homemaker, a member of the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary and EHC. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. (Bud) Pennington in 1996; a son, Roy Alvin Pennington in 1940; her parents, John & Brooksie Spencer Giles; four brothers and one sister. She is survived by two sons, Morris D. Pennington of Hamburg and James "Harold" Pennington of Crossett; a daughter, Edna Knight of Hamburg; a sister, Ruth Pennington of Monroe, LA; nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 26, in the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Ferrell Breshears, Roy Craig & Dale Crumby officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons, Michael & Gregg Knight, Harold Wayne, Kenny & Steven Pennington, Neal Sivils, Stephen Sizemore and Ricky Nelms. Interment followed services at the Egypt Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Egypt Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. John Laing, 272 Ashley Road 454, Hamburg, AR 71646.
Thomas E. "Tommy" Tucker
Thomas E. "Tommy" Tucker, 66, of Crossett died Sunday, August 20, 2000. Born April 4, 1934, in Haskell to Steve and Cloe Edna Mills Tucker, he was a deacon of the First Baptist Church, a retired fireman and loved hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Survivors include his spouse, Jean Tucker of Crossett; two sons, Andy Tucker of Denton, TX, and Bill Tucker of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Pam French of Chattanooga, TN; three sisters, Sue Huff of Cabot, Merle Bell of Little Rock and Abbie Lee of Dallas, TX; a sister-in-law, Theda Tucker of Traskwood; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 23, in the First Baptist Church of Crossett. Pallbearers were Claude Spainhour, Bob Bridges, Carrie Philley, Jackie Burchfield, Jimmy Rice and Jody Haney. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 701 Main Street, Crossett, AR 71635 or to the Paul Sullins Library, 125 Main Street, Crossett, AR 71635.
