Mr. Johnny Wayne Rich
Mr. Johnny Wayne Rich, 53, died Friday, August 18, 2000, at his residence in Wilmot. Mr. Rich was a native of Lake Village; a resident of Wilmot for the past 30 years and a former resident of Lake Village. He was a self-employed diesel mechanic and a member of the Jennie Baptist Church in Lake Village. He was preceded in death by his parents, John & Juanita Gay Rich and a sister, Nora Scroggins. He is survived by his wife, Ricki Brewer Rich of Wilmot; two sons, Bruce Rich and wife Melissa of Parkdale and Jason Rich of Wilmot; a daughter, Leslie Vestal and husband Lamar of Hamburg; and two grandsons, Devan Lawson and Tanner Rich. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 20, at the Parkdale Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Noble officiating. Pallbearers were Walter Bordelon, Charles Lee Thomas, Larry Armstrong, Freddie & Billy Scroggins, Marty Allbright and Charles P. Harrell. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons. Interment followed services at the Jennie Cemetery in Chicot County under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the American Federation for the Blind, 100 Peachtree Street, Suite 620, Atlanta, GA 30303.
Margie Rhodes
Margie Rhodes, 80, of Dermott, formerly of Lake Village, died Monday, August 14, 2000, at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS. A native of Rohwer, she was a retired beautician and a member of the Greater Second Baptist Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie W. Rhodes; her parents, Charlie and Mattie Fudge Sheppard; eight brothers and two sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Willie Mae and husband Willie Smith of Lake Village; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were at 12 noon Saturday, August 19, in the Seven Star Baptist Church with Rev. L. Brown officiating. The Lake Village Male Chorus served as pallbearers, and the deacons of the church were honorary pallbearers. Burial followed services at the New Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Bennie F. Young
Retired Master Sergeant Bennie F. Young, 77, formerly of DeKalb, TX, died Friday, August 11, 2000, at his home in Lake Village. Born to J. W. and Lillie Hilton Young on December 20, 1922, he served his country in the U. S. Army for 20 years, receiving many honors including being named NCO of the Year on two different occasions while stationed at Fort Bliss, TX. A former drill instructor at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, he also retired from D&Z as a security guard. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of DeKalb and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Ward Young; his parents, a grandson, Jeffrey Ben; three brothers, Lloyd, Earl and Glenn Young; and three sisters, Bernice Stinnett, Lillie Ima Gwendolyn and Floy Belle Lucille Young. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Liz and Phil Hargis of Lake Village; two granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, April and Mark Graves of Wake Village, TX, and Amy Joe Proctor of Nash, TX; a step-grandson and wife, Robby and Jamie Hargis of McGehee; three great-grandsons, Jordan, Aaron and Adams Graves of Wake Village, TX; a step-great-granddaughter, Hannah Hargis of McGehee; two brothers, Jimmy Young of Portland and Wesley Young of DeQueen; and a sister, Ruby Batterton of Crossett, among many other relatives. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, August 14, in the Bates Rolf Funeral Home chapel in DeKalb, TX, with a nephew, Rev. Jason McCullough, officiating. Burial with full military honors followed services at the Woodmen Cemetery.
Douglas V. B. Stone
Mr. Douglass V. B. Stone, 76, of Hamburg died Thursday, August 17, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg. A native of Ashley County and a resident of Hamburg for the past 16 years, he was a former resident of Monticello and retired from the Drew County Road Department in 1986. He was a member and a deacon of the First Baptist Church in Hamburg, a Gideon, a Mason and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. & Ruth Mason Douglass Stone, and two sisters, Blanche White and Robbie Fleming. Survivors include his wife, Grace Shurtleff Stone of Hamburg; a son, Robert E. Stone and wife Fran of Crossett; a daughter, Joyce Hussey and husband J. C. of Berryville; a sister, Anna Ruth Kelley and husband Hershel of Hamburg; three grandchildren, Robert D. Stone and wife Susan of Crossett, Robinan Gentry and husband, Derrick of Monroe, LA, and James R. Shell and wife Donna of Washington, DC and five great grandchildren Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 19, in the First Baptist Church in Hamburg with Dr. Bobby Pennington & Rev. Klois Hargis officiating. Pallbearers were Ronnie LaGrone, Tommy Hollis, Donald Wayne, Bob Rush, Doyle Lea and Freddie Martin. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of First Baptist Church. Interment followed services at the Hamburg Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Mount Olive Cemetery Association, c/o Mrs. Linda Shiver, 215 James Stone Road, Hamburg, AR 71646.
