Russell Lee Jenkins
Russell Lee Jenkins, 37, of Hamburg died Wednesday, August 9, 2000, at his residence. A life-long resident of Hamburg, he was a member of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, Bessie Howard; his father; Samuel and wife Jessie Jenkins; four brothers, Samuel and wife Shalane Jenkins, Tony Leonard Jenkins and Harvey Lamont Jenkins, all of Hamburg, and Marcus Watkins Jenkins of Conway; a sister, Scherries Tippie of Hamburg; three stepbrothers, Zachary Sales of Monroe, LA, Derrick Sales of Warren and Michael Sales of Kansas City, MO; and a stepsister, Lisa Matheney of Crossett. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 12, in the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. W. R. Taylor officiating. Pallbearers were Reggie Wilson, Ricky Tippie, Carl Pippen, Roosevelt Simpson, Lonnie Walker and Joshua Tippie. Burial followed services at the Johnson Memorial Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Oscar C. Jones
Oscar C. Jones, 87, of the Jennie community outside Portland died Monday, August 7, 2000, at his home. A retired farmer and member of Faith Fellowship Church, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jones; a daughter, Juanita Jones; and a grandson, John Czudek III. Survivors include three sons, Wade, Ronnie and Allen Jones, all of Jennie; three daughters, Rosie Honnicutt of Dermott, Joyce Cain of Dover and Rita Czudek of Jennie; a brother, Lee Jones of Tipton, CA; a sister, Mary Staggs of Gustine, CA; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 10, in the Faith Fellowship Church with Revs. Gary Ryals, James Dykes and Marvin Fuller officiating. Burial followed services at Jennie Cemetery, directed by Bishop Funeral Home of Lake Village.
Dan Lair
Dan Lair, 61, of Monticello died Sunday, August 6, 2000, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. Born March 28, 1939, in Hamburg to the late Charles L. and Ellie Belle Brady Lair, he retired from the Monticello Police Department on November 5, 1999, after serving 35 years in law enforcement in Hamburg, McGehee and Monticello. He was a member of the Promise Land Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Lair Winters. Survivors include a son, Danny Lair and wife Nichole of Fountain Hill; a brother, John Lair and wife Sandy of Lakeview; a sister, Charlie Mae Grubb and husband Charles of Hamburg; a granddaughter, Megan Lair of Fountain Hill; a brother-in-law, Charlie Winters of Deer Park, FL, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, in the Promise Land Baptist Church with Revs. Buddy Lemons, R. V. White and Kenny Williams officiating. Pallbearers were Don King, Jimmy Carpenter, LaRon Meeks, Jerry Pevey, Kurt Pate and Clifford Adams. Burial followed services at the Promise Land Cemetery, directed by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello.
Angel Grace Mormon
Angel Grace Mormon, infant daughter of Matthew Lee Mormon of Hamburg and Annie Marie Haynes of Wilmot, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. Survivors in addition to the parents are paternal grandparents Herman Jr., and Betty Mormon of Hamburg and maternal grandparents Charles and Lorraine Haynes of Wilmot; and a sister Kelsey Jordan Haynes of Wilmot. Grave-side services were at 10 a.m. Monday, July 17, at the Cleveland Cemetery with Rev. Randall Eddlemon officiating. Arrangements were by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
