Verta Faye Posey
Verta Faye Posey, 91, a resident of the Ridge Crest Nursing Home of West Monroe, LA, formerly of Crossett, died Wednesday, August 2, 2000, at the Glenwood Regional Medical Center. Born December 27, 1908, to Charles Edward and Nannie Mae Pope Downey in Johnsville, she was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee E. Posey. Survivors include a son, C. L. Posey of Texarkana, TX; two daughters, Rita P. Smith and Jacquelyn P. Adams, both of West Monroe, LA; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, August 4, in the First United Methodist Church of Crossett with Rev. Bill Williams officiating. Pallbearers were Tommy and Travis Smith, Mike and Lee Hendricks, Herman White and J. Lee Posey. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Mrs. Vivian Ann Davidson
Funeral services for Mrs. Vivian Ann Davidson, 39, of Hamburg were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2000, in the Penny Chapel A. M. E. Church in Parkdale with Sis. Willie Mae Goodwin officiating. Survivors include her husband, George Davidson; three daughters, Teretha, Betty and Martha Davidson; a son, Eddie Davidson, all of Hamburg; her father, Matt Stanley, Sr., of Portland; her mother, Flossie Stanley of Wilmot; two sisters, Crise Mae Stanley of Hamburg and Shirley Ann Stanley of Montrose; six brothers, Matt, Jr., and Wesley James Stanley of Wilmot, Lawrence and Elijah Stanley of Hamburg; Willie D. Stanley of Monticello and Willie L. Stanley of Crossett; and one grandchild. Burial followed services at the Johnson Cemetery in Hamburg with arrangements by Dillard Funeral Home of Eudora.
Mr. Ralph Gardner
Mr. Ralph Gardner, 80, of San Bernardino, CA, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in San Bernardino. He was retired from the U. S. Air Force and Southern Pacific Pipeline Company. A native of Parkdale, he attended what is now the University of Arkansas-Monticello and the University of Central Arkansas in Conway before enlisting in the Air Force where he was assigned to the Intelligence Service. He served 23 years before retiring in 1964. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Jewel Gardner, and two brothers, Edward "Jake" and Jack Gardner. Survivors are his wife, Theresa Gardner of San Bernardino; a son, Dr. Dan Gardner of Benton; a daughter, Cheryl Gardner of Ohio; three brothers including his twin, Robert Gardner of Seattle, WA, William Gardner of San Ramen, CA, and Frank Gardner of Little Rock; two sisters, Martha Sealander of Little Rock and Mary Ann Sacco of North Little Rock; and six grandchildren. Memorial services were held Tuesday, August 1, in San Bernardino, CA. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 3, in the Parkdale Baptist Church. Burial will follow services at the Egypt Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Egypt Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. John Laing, 272 Ashley Road 454, Hamburg, AR 71646 or to the Parkdale Baptist Church, P. O. Box 6, Parkdale, AR 71661.
Florence Etta Harrison
Mrs. Florence Etta Harrison, 73, of the Pine Hill community outside Hamburg died Sunday, July 29, 2000, at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. A native of Mississippi, she was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel Washington Stanley and George Elwood Stanley; two sisters, Annie Curry and Eunice Norrell; and one brother, Lee Curry. Survivors include her husband, Bill Leon Harrison; one son, Ernest Dewayne Stanley of Phoenix, AZ; seven daughters, Linda Rose Barnett and Carolyn Jean Barnett of Monticello, Doris Louise Moran, Loretta Lynn Holland, Donnie Lavern Moran, all of Hamburg, and Lorrie Ann Cameron and Debbie Kay Hicks of Bastrop, LA; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were planned for 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, in the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church with Revs. Paul McKissac and Bruce Culp officiating. Pallbearers were to be Lavon, Virgil and Danny Smith, David Holland, Wayne Barnett, Marlon Bennett, Gary Strickland and David Moran. Burial was to follow services at the Carlock Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
