Charles E. Spooner, Jr.
Charles E. Spooner, Jr., 75, a 35-year resident of Crossett, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, after a lengthy illness.
Born February 18, 1925, to Charles and Eulala Athurn Spooner in Worden, Montana, he was a retired superintendent for Georgia-Pacific's plywood mills.
Survivors are a sister, Susan Larison of Bloomington, CA, and several cousins.
Grave-side services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at Pinewood Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Buddy Lane, Ronnie Ranes, Tracy Bulloch, Troy Ransom, Elmer Strickland and Bruce DeLess.
Arrangements were by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Lois Nell Carpenter
Lois Nell Carpenter, 68, of Crossett died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA. Born September 27, 1931, to Jessie and Mattie Jones Locke in Fountain Hill, she was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Forest Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Carpenter. Survivors include a son, Gary Carpenter and wife Marlys of Crossett; a daughter, Sharon Anders and husband Everett of Liberty, TX; three brothers, J. C. Locke of Cabot, Julian Locke of Petit Jean and Vernon Locke of Fountain Hill; a sister, Valarie Smith of Monroe, LA; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, in the Pine Forest Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Roy Craig and Donnie DuBose officiating. Pallbearers were Clinton and Ryan Carpenter, Mike Watson, Kenny and Steve Kelley and Bob Lloyd. Burial followed services at the Prairie Grove Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Elizabeth Hampton
Elizabeth Hampton, 81, of Vallejo, CA, formerly of Crossett, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at the home of her daughter in Crossett. A native of Huttig, she had lived in Vallejo for the past seven years and was a homemaker and a member of the Trinity Church of God in Christ in Vallejo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dallas Hampton; two sons, Willie Lee and Clinton Hampton; her parents, Will and Beulah McHenry Carney; four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include eight sons, Raymond, Billy, Lavell, Johnny and Charles Hampton of Crossett, Troy Hampton of Camden, Roy Hampton of Vallejo, CA, and Walter Hampton of Texas; seven daughters, Beulah Mae Daniels of Crossett, Mary Hendrix, Ella Maxine Sanford, Dorothy Wright, Leola Davis, Corene Hampton and Lois Hampton of Vallejo; one brother, George Carney of Portland, OR; 65 grandchildren, 124 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, July 3, in the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Nolan Phillips officiating. Pallbearers were Revs. O. T. Carlock and Tracey Hampton, Doyle Miller, Toney Ray Williams, Gary Hollins and Melvin Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Levell, Johnny, Troy, Roy, and James Hampton and Thomas Jones. Burial followed services at the Carlock Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Mr. Billy Lynn Hobbs
Funeral services for Mr. Billy Lynn Hobbs were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 11, in the First Baptist Church in Merryville, LA, with Revs. Wayne Squires and Steve Neesley officiating. He died Friday, December 8, 2000, in St. Luke's Hospital in Houston, TX, following heart surgery.
Born in Hamburg on September 28, 1935, he was a paper maker for 36 years, beginning with The Crossett Company in 1955 and retiring as superintendent of the number three newsprint machine after 22 years with Boise-Cascade in DeRidder, LA. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed his retirement years on Toledo Bend Lake. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Merryville where he sang in the choir and as a soloist for worship services as well as for many weddings and funerals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margarette and Hogan Hobbs, and a son, Mark Alan Hobbs.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 45 years, Frances Jeffers Hobbs; a daughter, Rebecca Lynn Franks and husband Hershell; two sons, James David Hobbs and wife Rhonda and John Michael Hobbs and wife Connie; five grandchildren, Rebecca JoAnne Smith and husband Shannon, Jennifer Lee Franks, Jamie Denee Hobbs, James David Hobbs II and John Michael Hobbs II; a brother, Gerald Hobbs and wife Linda; two sisters, Julia Willis and husband Charles and Martha McGarrity and husband John; five nieces and three nephews.
Pallbearers were Anthony Hobbs, Dennis Willis, Jim Wells, Kenny Leigh, Barry Carter and John McGarrity with Rev. Jerry Carter as honorary pallbearer. Burial followed services at the Bivens Cemetery in Merryville.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Family Life or Music Department in Merryville, LA, or to the Hamburg High School Honors Scholarship Fund.
