Mrs. Noba Lee Howie
Mrs. Noba Lee Howie, 85, of Hamburg died Saturday, December 23, 2000, at the Gladewater Nursing Home in Gladewater, TX. A native of Ashley County and a Hamburg resident for most of her life, she had lived in Gladewater for the past five years. A homemaker and member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Seab Howie, in 1970; a daughter, Sarah Howie, in 1971; her parents, John and Paralee Kelly Pruitt; a sister, Margaret Burchfield; and a brother, J. C. Pruitt.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Alice Jackson of Tatum, TX, Lois Mitchell of Gladewater, TX, and Lula Lee Brooks of Hamburg; a sister, Ethel Mae Howie of McGehee; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 26, in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Revs. Robin Allen, E. W. Ricks and Danny Roberts officiating. Pallbearers were to be Sanders and Don Brooks, John and Jimmy Jackson, Franklin and Rodney Ricks and Bobby and Joel Foster. Honorary pallbearers were to be Howard Foster, Robert Burns, Keith Ladd, John T. Elmore, Henry Austin, and L. V. "Bo" Williamson.
Burial was to follow services at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, c/o Mary Jo Burns, 3734 Highway 8 East, Parkdale, AR 71661 or the Alzheimer's Association, Central Arkansas Chapter, 10411 W. Markham, Suite 130, Little Roc, AR 72205-1409.

W. B. "Bill" Jenkins
W. B. "Bill" Jenkins, age 87, a lifelong resident of Crossett, died Friday, December 22, 2000. He was born in Crossett on August 11, 1913, to William Benjamin and Ophelia McMillan Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins graduated from Crossett High School in 1932. He worked at the Crossett Mercantile Co., working in the grocery department for three and a half years, then was promoted to the shoe department. In June, 1937, he began work at the Crossett Paper Mill assisting in setting up the first supply room. When the mill began operation, he worked in the machine room and later was transferred to the paper machine as a plugger, and advanced to machine operator.
In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in World War II in the European theater, as a master sergeant in the ordinance division. In 1946, he returned to the paper mill and advanced to assistant paper mill manager. In 1978, he retired from the Georgia Pacific Corp. after forty-six years, where he was fondly called "Mr. Bill" by the employees. Mr. Jenkins was active in Junior Chamber of Commerce and served as Crossett City Alderman for four years.
Since retirement, he organized the S.C.O.R.E. group for the Chamber of Commerce, serving in that position for eleven years. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Crossett and served as president of the Men's Bible Class for ten years. He was the organizer of the volunteer Big Wheelers for the Crossett Leisure Lodge nursing home patients, serving for approximately fourteen years. He was an active member of the Crossett Rotary Club since its inception, where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Jenkins was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Barnes Jenkins, and a daughter, Rosamond Jenkins.
Survivors include a special friend, Maudine Kordsmeier of Crossett; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Houston of Crossett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 24, in the First United Methodist Church of Crossett with Rev. Bill Williams officiating. Pallbearers were Roy Denson, Dan Kersey, Ben Johnson, John Carl Jordan, Pete Schwartz, Bobby Gill, Tom Pat Cook and Bert Jordan. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men's Bible Class, Randolph Perritt, Hank Spikes, Bruce Deless, Charles Grasse, Rusty Morgan, Phillip Higginbotham and James Hubbard. Bobby Gill and Bert Jordan were ushers. Interment followed at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.

Mr. Tom Myers
Mr. Tom Myers, 91, of Crossett died Wednesday, December 20, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Crossett. A native of Polk County, he had lived in Crossett since 1981 and was a former resident of Wilmot. A retired farmer and a Baptist, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Rainbolt Myers, in 1986; a son, Jimmie Myers; his parents, Arthur and Ethel Holloway Myers; four brothers, James, L. D., Hubert and Poss Myers; and two sisters, Syble Lloyd and Reba Hall.
Survivors are two daughters, Irene Sivils of Crossett and Madge Hicks of Atkins; two sisters, Ruth Harrison of Dermott and Rea Johnson of Crossett; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 21, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Rev. Dan Ward officiating. Pallbearers were Rusty Little, George Stark, John Hall, Thomas Freeman, Floyd McCain, L. D. Myers, Jr., Dale Myers, Tony Reel and L. C. Sivils. Burial followed services at the Dry Bayou Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dry Bayou Cemetery, c/o Mrs. Polly Wolf, 138 Ashley Road 378, Wilmot, AR 71676.

Annie Faye Ogden
Annie Faye Ogden, 72, of Crossett died Tuesday, December 19, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Born April 13, 1928, in Boydell to James Montgomery and Pearl Turner Morris, she was a Past Worthy Matron of Crossett Chapter #303 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Orange Chapter #214 of Orange, TX, and a member of McDonald Baptist Church in Orange, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Bobby Glenn Ogden; a great-grandchild, William John Dodd; and two brothers, James N. Morris and William S. Pennington.
Survivors include her spouse of over 51 years, Arderie Ogden of Hamburg; a daughter, Judy Dodd of Crossett; two brothers, Richard Pennington of Des Moines, IA, and Tim Morris of San Antonio, TX; a sister, Sue Harmon of San Antonio; and two grandchildren, Donica McLeod and LaTisha Dodd.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, December 22, in the Mount Olive Baptist Church with Don Ward and Roy Craig officiating. Pallbearers were Ronnie Bowen, Eugene Burnett, Tim Abney, Robert Hendrix, Jarrod Bowen and David Harmon. Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Burnett, Chad Hendrix, Floyd Ogden and Eddie Stanley, Jr.
Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
