Chlorene Elver Calloway Jones
Chlorene Elver Calloway Jones, 84, of Crossett died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at her home. Born November 5, 1916, to Joe Lee and Naughvelle Futch Calloway in Laran, LA, she was a homemaker, loved working in her flower bed and was a long-time member of the West Crossett Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal S. Jones, Sr.; her daughter, Florence Evelyn Bowden; and a brother, Clarence Calloway.
Survivors include three sons, Willie J. Jones and wife Lucy Nale, Leroy Jones, and R. S. Jones, Jr., and wife Beverly; a daughter, Christelle Ricketts, all of Crossett; three brothers, Victor Calloway of Boston, MA, Billy Calloway of Crossett and Wayne Calloway of Strong; seven sisters, Sally Hamm of Monticello, Allie Cantley of Crossett, Leola Burns of Strong, Sudie Garner of El Dorado, Martha House of Huntsville, AL, Joann Smiley of Shreveport, LA, and Elaine Dees of Hermitage; ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, February 2, in the West Crossett Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Thad Douglas, John Marlar and Steve Franklin officiating. Pallbearers were Joe and Henry Cantley, Linwood and David Dees, Stan and Steve Calloway and Ronnie Ham. Honorary pallbearers were Harold and Larry Cantley and Len Burns. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Memorials may be made to the West Crossett Missionary Baptist Church building fund.
Willie Sue Wade
Mrs. Willie Sue Wade, 83, of Crossett, died Friday, February 2, 2001, at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock. A lifelong resident of Crossett, a homemaker, and a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, she was proceeded in death by her husband, Dave Wade; two sons, Troy and Celester Wade; a granddaughter, Renea Bolden; her parents, Benjamin and Delia Edwards Lowe; two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include two sons, David Wade of Crossett and Danny Wade of Little Rock; four daughters, Ouida Fluckers and Brenda Walker of Crossett, Mammie Gill of Eudora, and Delora Butler of Little Rock; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 8, at 1:00 p.m., at the New Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. B.J. Jackson officiating. Interment was in the Westview Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home.
Margaret L. Walser
Margaret L. Walser, 44, of Crossett died Sunday, January 28, 2001, at the Bradley County Medical Center in Warren. Born January 11, 1957, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Chris Johnston; a daughter, Melissa Johnston; her parents, Fagen and Florence Barnett Elton, all of Crossett; a brother, James Allen of El Dorado; and a grandchild, Brianna Diamond Johnston.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett. Pallbearers were Glen Allen, Kenneth Tharp, Tommy Boles, Don Michaels, James Allen, Dennis Holland and Jason Woods. Burial followed services at the Simms Cemetery.
Hettie Estelle Wilkinson
Hettie Estelle Murphy Wilkinson, 86, of Crossett, died Sunday, February 4, 2001, at the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home. Born September 24, 1914, to Jim W. and Lizzie Higginbotham Murphy, Mrs. Wilkinson was a native of the Promise Land community, but lived in Crossett for 60 years, and was a member of the First Church of God for over 40 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher for the adult class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Wilkinson; two brothers, L.C. Murphy and Hunter E. Murphy; one sister, Goldie Golden and a half-sister, Druzzy Coulter.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry M. Wilkinson of Austin, TX, and Billy Earl Wilkinson of Crossett; two daughters, Sue Judkins and Tine Nearn, both of Mountain Home; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were planned for 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, in the First Church of God with Reverend Steve Casey officiating. Burial was to follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 6, from 5- 8 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home.
