March 13, 1938, to Oliver Daniel and Hazel Ethel Murphy Barnett, he was a life-long resident of Crossett, a member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett and a retired engineer for Georgia-Pacific Corp. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Beef Trail Deer Camp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Barnett.
Survivors include a son, Richie Barnett of Little Rock; a daughter, Brooke Cantley and husband Mike of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Jess, Noah and Katie Cantley and Annabella Barnett; and three sisters, Edith Hunnicutt of Valdosta, GA, and Nancy Willis and Bennie McArthur of Crossett.
Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, in the First Baptist Church with Dr. David Newberry officiating. Arrangements were by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
William Bruce Barnett
William Bruce Barnett, age 44, of Dallas, TX, formerly of Crossett, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000. Born June 18, 1956, to Willie Mae and Martiel Carter Barnett, Mr. Barnett was a 1974 graduate of Crossett High School. He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and received a degree in pharmacy from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Mr. Barnett was employed at Advance Paradigm in Dallas and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Crossett. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Barnett Bolin and his grandparents, William Carter, Ollie and Elzie Barnett.
Survivors include his parents, Martiel and Willie Mae Barnett; his grandmother, Zelma Young; a brother, Jerry Mac and wife Margaret; a sister, Kathy Baldwin and husband Tom; and a brother-in-law, Johnnie Bolin, all of Crossett; four nephews; and one niece; three great-nephews; and one great-niece; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26, in the First Freewill Baptist Church of North Crossett with the Rev. John Reed officiating. Interment followed at Carter Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers were Andrew Wallace, Alan Hopper, Mike Barnett, Benji Carter, John R. Crisp and Jeff Henry. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Crossett High 1974 class. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University, Little Rock, Ark. 72207 or the Carter Cemetery Fund, 10900 Wilkins Drive, Bastrop, La. 71220.
Benjamin Felton Bowman
Benjamin Felton Bowman, 77, of Warren died Sunday, November 19, 2000, at the Leisure Lodge in Monticello. Born August 13, 1923 in Farmerville to the late Casper Adonis and Hattie Castleberry Bowman, he was a retired highway contractor for the U.S. Postal Service, a Baptist and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Master Sgt. Bowman served as a mortar gunner and combat infantryman in New Guinea, Luzon and the Philippines.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Quimby Bowman, who he marriage August 23, 1942; two sons, Nick Bowman and wife Linda of Farmerville, LA, and Bobby F. Bowman and wife Virginia of Hamburg; one daughter, Sherrilyn Jean Weaver of Crossett; two brothers, Kirby Bowman of Warren and Melton Bowman of Houston, TX; three sisters, Christine Greenwood of Warren, Maxine Yates of Fayetteville, and Jerrye Conto of Warren; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 22, at 1:30 p.m. at Frazer's Funeral Home with Rev. Terrell Wallace officiating, Janice Sullivan as organist and Larry Killian as soloist. Burial was in Hickory Springs Cemetery near Warren. Pallbearers were Kirby Pease Bowman, Benjamin F. Bowman II, Christopher M. Weaver, Joe Don Greenwood, David Wayne Weaver, Don Martin and Mike Yates. Honorary pallbearers were Doyle and Orren Gates, Jerry and Don Robinson, Mark Ryles, Mickey Tucker and Tom, Lynwood and David Dees. Memorials preferred at First Baptist Church of Warren.
