November 25, 1920, to Homer and Ada Woods Courson, Mr. Courson was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942-1945 in the Middle East and India. He drove a truck over the Burma Road into China. He retired from Georgia-Pacific after 44 years of employment. Mr. Courson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett, an avid fisherman and hunter, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his brother, J.B. Courson.
His survivors include his wife, Carolyn Courson of Crossett; two sons, Bobby Courson of Butlerville and Bill Courson of Crossett; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral service were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 22, at the Jones Funeral chapel in Crossett with Revs. Bill Williams and Richard Hughes officiating. Pallbearers were John Pennington, Billy Wayne Moffatt, Gene Weems, Dan Emory, Mike Young and Red Wells.
Internment followed at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Mr. Glenn Ladd
Mr. Glenn Ladd, 45, of Hamburg, died Monday, November 27, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Ladd was a lifelong resident of Hamburg and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1973. He was a catfish, rice and soybean farmer, and he owned Ladd & Company, an industrial salvage company. A member of the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Renee Ladd; his father, Earl Clifton Ladd, Sr.; his grandparents, Clara Mae Peacock Ladd, Victor Earl Ladd, and Harry & Ora Olivia Shuck.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Edwards Ladd; two sons, Glenn David and wife Cara Martin Ladd and Patrick Keith Ladd; a daughter, Olivia Sue Ladd; his mother, Della Sue Shuck Ladd; two brothers, Earl Clifton Ladd, Jr. and Harry Keith Ladd, all of Hamburg; nine nieces and five nephews.
Funeral services are to be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 29, in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Revs. Dudley Baxter, B. K. Harris and Robin Allen officiating. Pallbearers are to be Freddie Black, Phillip Jones, Allen Richardson, Bob Evans, Gregg Rossini, and Henry Hensley. Honorary pallbearers are to be Joe Dablock, Robert "Booster" Burns, Jim West, E. W. Ricks, and Jim Grady. Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Building Fund, c/o Mary Jo Burns, 3734 Hwy 8 E., Parkdale, AR 71661.
Dean Neal
Dean Neal, 76, of Crossett died Tuesday, November 21, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. A native of Marsden, he was a retired cook, a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and served as a sergeant in the U. S. Marines Corps during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mae Neal; and a brother, Reen Neal.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie Neal; two daughters, Laloni Neal of Pasadena, CA, and Meredith Wilson of Norfolk, VA; two stepdaughters, Sandra Mosely and Earnestine Yates of Sacramento, CA; a brother, Robert Duff of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Geneva Neal Charles, Albretta Armstead and Sarah Flenaugh of Chicago, IL; and five step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, November 27, in the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Tyrone Broomfield officiating. Pallbearers were Arthur Lamos, Todd Brown, Jr., Bobby Brown, Ray Ford, Charles Moore, T. L. Lowe, Nathaniel Keith and Leon Whaley. Burial followed services at the Weary Rest Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Mr. Jack Harold Pounds
Mr. Jack Harold Pounds, 69, of Hamburg, died Saturday, November 25, 2000, at the Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton. A native of the Snyder community outside of Hamburg and a resident of Hamburg for many years, he graduated from Hamburg High School in 1950. He was an employee of Amerada Hess for 20 years, and he was a plant supervisor for Georgia Pacific for 23 years until retiring in 1994. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Hamburg where he was president of the Men's Bible Class and served on several committees in the church, as well as being the church's handy man. He drove the van for the senior citizen trips as well as for the Kid's Club. He and his wife were active in the Ozark Mission Project and have been on several mission trips. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. & Abby Virginia Golden Pounds.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margie G. Brantley Pounds of Hamburg; three daughters, Victoria Sullins and husband, Richard, of Forney, TX; Deborah Harrison and husband Al of Jonesboro and Jacqueline Hennington and husband Ernie, of Hamburg; three sisters, Betty Sue Chapman of McNeil, Gwen Fischer of Hamburg and Francis Gosnell of Garland, TX; two brothers, Johnny Ralph Pounds of Bakersfield, CA and Everett Fay Pounds of Hamburg; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, in the First United Methodist Church of Hamburg with Revs. John Shafer, Thad Douglas and Leslee Phillips officiating. Honorary pallbearers were to be members of the Men's Bible Class of the First United Methodist Church in Hamburg and the Ozark Mission Project Team.
