Samuel Oscar Lum
Samuel Oscar Lum, 90, of Bastrop, LA, died Friday, November 17, 2000, at his home. Born March 16, 1910, to Edgar Curlin and Martha Jane Horn Lum in Morehouse Parish, Mr. Lum was a retired truck driver for Georgia-Pacific and a member of the Church of God. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dianne Mann.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Nancy Collier Lum; one son, Claude Lum; three daughters, Mary Harris, Juanell Smith and Shirley Bridges, all of Bastrop; one brother, Harold Lum of Buna, TX; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 20 at the Pine Hill Methodist Church in Beekman, LA with the Revs. Carvin Adams and Steve Casey officiating. Interment followed at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Crossett under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Audrey Mae Stephenson
Audrey Mae Johnson Stephenson, age 89, of Crossett, died Tuesday, November 14, 2000, at the Crossett Leisure Lodge. Born May 6, 1911, to Harvey Allen and Ida Mae Brockwell Johnson in Fountain Hill, Mrs. Stephenson was a homemaker and a member of the Beulahland Assembly of God Church for over fifty years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Stephenson; one brother, Felton Johnson; two grandsons, Jerrell Stephenson. and an infant.
Survivors include three sons, Derrell, Floyd and Aubrey Stephenson, all of Crossett; two daughters, Margie Carter of Crossett and Opal Hartness of Monticello; one sister, Verdell Bowman of Mt. Morris, MI; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 12 noon Thursday, November 16, at the Beulahland Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Larry Johnson and Wesley Maxwell officiating. Pallbearers were Allen, Greg and David Stephenson, Steve and Kerry Hartness, Mike and Matthew Carter, and Corey Herriman. Interment followed at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Juanita Merlene Swan
Juanita Merlene Swan, 64, of Strong died Thursday, November 16, 2000. Born August 2, 1936, to Levi Madison and Henrietta Francis Murphy, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Carla Parades, Becky Hull and Fran Frisby, all of Strong; a stepdaughter, Janie Moran of Ball Ground, GA; a brother, M. L. "Sonny" Lemons of Laverene, TN; nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 18, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett. Pallbearers were James Frisby, Harry Hull, Jr., Harold Swan, Bennie Swan, Leonard Farrar, Shellie Dale Lemons, Gary and Levi Frisby. Burial followed services at the Crossroads Cemetery.
Thomas Wilson
Thomas Wilson, 80, of Wilmot, formerly of Chicago, IL, died Friday, November 17, 2000, at the St. Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock. A native of Ashley County and a Chicago resident for 44 years before moving back to Wilmot 15 years ago, he was a retired laborer for General Motors and a member and deacon of the Second Baptist Church. He also served eight years on the Wilmot City Council. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Maude Mitchell Wilson, and ten sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Blondie Wilson.
Funeral services will be at 11 am. Saturday, November 25, in the Second Baptist Church with Rev. L. M. Christian officiating. Pallbearers will be Joe Hardaway, Thomas, Willie, Carl and Michael Rollins, and Benjamin Gray, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews and the deacons of the church. Burial will follow services at the Second Baptist Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
