Katy Frank Ladd Toney
Katy Frank Ladd Toney, 95, of Crossett died Friday, October 13, 2000. An alumnus of Arkansas A&M College, she was a teacher, an accomplished seamstress, a homemaker and a long-time member of the Crossett First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Toney; a daughter, Jo Ann Toney; her parents, Frank and Margaret Ladd; and four sisters, Lillian Johnson, Buford Berry, Mary Scribner and Margaret Cheeseman.
Survivors include a daughter, Polly T. Roberson and husband Grit of Crossett; two grandchildren, John W. Robertson and Toney Harrington; three great-grandchildren, Kelli Edgar, Adam Edgar, and Chad Robertson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Grave-side services were at 4 p.m. Saturday, October14, at the Snyder Cemetery with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers were Byron Easterling, Jimmy Johnson, Owen Johnson, Jay Scribner, Ken Cravens and John Carty.
The family requested memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Crossett, 500 Main Street, Crossett AR 71635.

Mr. Carroll A. Christmas
Mr. Carroll A. Christmas, 95, a retired farmer and merchant, died Tuesday, October 3, 2000, at the Hickory Manor Nursing Home in Bastrop, LA. A member and Master Mason of the Portland Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and a deacon in the Montrose and Portland Baptist churches, he was a member of the Westside Baptist Church and was preceded in death by a daughter, Clemmie Carolyn Christmas McCollum; a sister, Bertie French; and two brothers, Louis and Pell Christmas.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Georgia Hazel Christmas; two sons, Carroll V. Christmas and wife Syble and Jimmy Christmas and wife Peggy, all of Bastrop; six grandchildren, Susan White, Debbie Pettis, Mary Bryan, Faye Frost, Christy Wright and Chris Christmas; eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 5, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Houston Austin and John Deschner officiating. Pallbearers were J. D. Kelley, Zane Tubbs, Jack Witcher, Elva Greer, Felix Brown, and Buddy Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were John Bond and Dr. Mike Smith. Burial followed services at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop.

Murl Jean Ewing
Murl Jean Ewing, 75, died on October 4, 2000 on the Weinberg Campus, Amherst, New York. Dr. Ewing, a retired teacher, had lived in Gainesville, FL, with her husband of 41 years, William James Ewing. Widowed in 1988, she moved briefly to Jenson Beach, FL, to be near her sister, Ruth White. Since 1990, in failing health, she lived with her two daughters, Dana Wright of Snyder, NY, and Leisa Haire of Albany, GA. Five grandchildren and her sister Ruth White of Stuart, FL also survive her.
Murl Jean White was born May 11, 1925, the eighth child of Annie and Burl White. She was raised in Crossett, and attended Hamburg High School and the University of Arkansas. She moved to St. Louis to work for the Dept. of Defense and then to Washington, D.C. where she worked at the Pentagon. There she met and later marriage William James Ewing, First Lt., US Army in 1947.
A firm believer in higher education, Murl Jean graduated from the University of Florida with a Master's of Education and Florida State University with a Maste'rs of Education and with a doctorate in linguistics. Selected in 1971 by the State Dept. of Education, she traveled to India as an educational exchange delegation. Her professional career covered students of all ages from middle school through college and faculty.
A life-long member of the Baptist church, she taught adult Sunday School classes wherever she lived. She belonged to the Gainesville Golf and Country Club where she enjoyed golfing and swimming. She was an avid gardener and flower arranger with the Gainesville Garden Club.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 14, at the Crossroads Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Crossroads Cemetery in Crossett.

Joleane Farmer
Joleane Farmer, 71, of Crossett, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000, at her home. Born September 4, 1929, to Archie and Lola Johnson Wyman, Mrs. Farmer was a homemaker and a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Victor Farmer; two daughters, Theresa Paulette White and husband James, and Wanda LaFran Rodgers and husband Ronnie, all of Crossett; two brothers, Richard Wyman of Houston, TX, and Conway Wyman of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren, Meridith Lee Rodgers Harrison and husband Kevin of Monticello, David Allen Rodgers of Crossett, Brooks Christopher White of Jonesboro, and Heather Paige White Adair and husband Timothy of Muldrow, OK.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 7, at Mount Olive Baptist Church with Don Ward and Tim Adair officiating. Interment followed at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Pallbearers were Clyde Farmer, Brian Farmer, Brooks White, David Rodgers, Gerry Rodgers and Glen Sled.
Mrs. Farmer wished to have Gideon Bibles placed in her memory.
