Alford Clark
Alford Clark, 81, of Crossett died Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the Hudson Nursing Home in El Dorado. A lifelong resident of Ashley County, he was retired from the Georgia-Pacific plywood mill and was a member of the St. Peter Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaree Joe Clark; his parents, Johnson and Maggie Pennington Clark; two sisters and a brother.
Survivors include ten sons, Willie D. and Raymond Clark of Crossett, Claudell and Jessie Clark of Phoenix, AZ, James and Chris Clark of Oakland, CA, Donnell Clark of Brentwood, CA, Freddie Clark of Tracey, CA, Eddie Clark of West Memphis and Alford Clark, Jr., of Stockton, CA; three daughters, Dorothy Grayson and Kathay Clark Brown of Crossett and Mary Hemphill of Rockhill, SC; a brother, Chris Clark of Oakland, CA; 48 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, January 29, in the New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. B. J. Jackson officiating. Pallbearers were Curtis Boston, Jr., Larry Rogers, Larry Waters, Robert Duke, James Duke, James Webb and Michael Scott. Burial followed services at the Westview Cemetery, directed by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Erma Jean Grayson
Erma Jean Grayson, 45, of Hamburg died Sunday, January 28, 2001, at the Beverly Health Care in Star City. A lifelong resident of Hamburg, she was a homemaker and a member of the Christ Temple Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Irma Haynes Grayson; three sisters, Rebecca Haynes, Georgia Grayson and Mary Bell Langford; and two brothers, Jerry and Johnny Lee Grayson.
Survivors include a son, Brent Green of Hamburg; a brother, George Grayson, Jr., of Hamburg; and three sisters, Idell Dainkins of Queens, NY, Jean Penson of Milwaukee, WI and Idia Mason of Hamburg.
Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, February 1, in the Christ Temple Pentecostal Church with Rev. Alphonso Madden officiating. Pallbearers will be Alphonso King, Dewayne Pugh, Nolton Mason, Johnny Crain, Willie Ashford, Phillip Mays, Lonnie Walker, and Eddie Mays. Burial will follow services at the Phillip Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.

Winfred Matthew Hudgens
Winfred Matthew "Wimp" Hudgens, 74, of Monticello, died Saturday, January 27, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born February 3, 1926, in Parkdale, the son of the late William Pittman Hudgens Sr. and Allie Pippen Hudgens. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Pleasant Grove Freewill Baptist Church. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 304th Infantry, 76th Division in the European Theater for fifteen months. He was preceded in death by a son, James Charles "Jimmy" Hudgens; three brothers, William P. "Bill" Hudgens Jr., Clarence Lafay "Si" Hudgens Sr., and Maurice Dwain "Jack" Hudgens; and three sisters, Ola Virginia Smith, Gladys Hudgens and Florence Augusta Outlaw.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Matthew Hudgens and wife Cindy of Monticello; four daughters, Judy Carol Jenkins and husband Jessie, Linda Diane Griffin and husband Richard, Michelle Lea Bailey and husband Darren, all of Monticello, and Cheryl Susan Shirey and husband Homer of El Dorado; one stepson, Randy Ellis and wife Dana of Monticello; one sister, Katie Sue Moore and husband Junior of Monticello; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday, January 31, at l:30 p.m. at the Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with Revs. Gary Jordan and David Jacks officiating. Internment will follow at the Ladelle Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers are to be Keith Griffin, J.R. Shirey, Matthew Hudgens, Brian Jenkins, Kevin Griffin, Chris Shirey, Tony Jenkins and Robert Gordon. Honorary pallbearers are to be Buddy Carter, Whit Thornhill, Ken Ouellette, Bill Moore, William Moore III, Houston Berryman, Roy Williams, John Collins, Terry Babin and P.Q. Gardner.

Elbert Glen Kemp
Elbert Glen Kemp, 62, of Crossett died Saturday, January 27, 2001, at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. Born October 12, 1938, in Strong to Elbert L. and Elvie King Kemp, he was employed with Georgia-Pacific Corp. for 24 years and was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church near Strong.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Kemp of Crossett; two sons, David Glen Kemp of Strong and Russell Alan Kemp of Curtistown, HI; two daughters, Samantha Lowery of Crossett and Gwendolyn Murray of Waycross, GA; a stepson, William S. Meredith of Manchester, England; a stepdaughter, Kathy Murray of Crossett; his parents, Elbert L. and Elvie Kemp of Strong; a brother, Marwin Kemp of Tulsa, OK; a sister, Marsha Gentry of Bridge City, TX; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church near Strong with Bro. Shepardson officiating.
Burial was to follow services at the Ebenezer Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
