Muriel McCarver
Graveside services were held December 2, 2000, at Rome Cemetery in Rome, MS, for of Hattiesburg, who died November 30 at the Forrest General Hospital. The Rev. Lawrence Jones officiated.
Mrs. McCarver was a native of Sunflower County, a homemaker, a member of Rome Christian Church, had lived in Hattiesburg since 1986 and was a resident of Hamburg many years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Gibson McCarver, and a son, Bill McCarver.
Survivors include a son, Paul McCarver of Hattiesburg, MS; three daughters, Nancy Williford of Metairie, LA, Tony McCarver of Hattiesburg, MS, and Johnsie Tucker of Charleston, MS; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. James Murdock
Mr. James Murdock, 80, of Parkdale died Tuesday, January 9, 2001, at the St. John's Regional Hospital in Oxnard, California. Mr. Murdock was a native of Casper, Wyoming; a resident of Parkdale since 1949, and he had been staying with his daughter and family in Ventura, California for the past six months. He was the owner and operator of Murdock's Service Station in Parkdale for many years and he taught at the Parkdale High School. He was an U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Parkdale United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Grice Murdock in March, 1999, and his parents, James Moses & Frances Blodgett Murdock.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Dunn and her husband, Wayne, of Ventura, CA; a brother, William L. Murdock of San Angelo, TX; two sisters, Sylvia Mounce of Stillville, MO and Mary Provancha of Crocker, MO; two grandsons, Jeffrey Wayne Dunn and Patrick James Dunn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 14, in the Parkdale United Methodist Church with Revs. John Henley and Harry Noble officiating. Pallbearers were Joe Powell, Jimmy, Randy, Steven and David Grice, and Tommy Mounce. Interment followed services at the Parkdale Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Parkdale United Methodist Church, c/o Mr. Glyn Pope, PO Box 127, Parkdale, AR 71661.
Gladys Bernice Parker
Gladys Bernice Parker, 82, of Crossett, died Thursday, January 11, 2001, at her home. She was born on February 12, 1918 to Robert Lee and Nannie Smith Blankenship in Bradley County. Mrs. Parker was a retired hairdresser and loved camping and fishing. She was a member of Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church where she served as church clerk for 32 years.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Everett E. Parker of Crossett; four sons, Carroll Parker and wife Shelby, Lane Parker and wife Jo Ann, Keith Parker and wife Beth and Jackie Parker and wife Jeanie, all of Crossett; one daughter, Connie Smith and husband Bobby of Little Rock; grandchildren Vicki Trammell and husband Mark, Stacey Davis and husband Chuck, Roxanne Leonard and husband Ricky, Carla Griffin and husband Parrish, John Parker and wife Angie, Gina Parker, Kristy Terrell and husband Michael, Jamie Parker, David Parker and wife Julie, and Candy Parker; great-grandchildren: Sandy Rice and husband Timmy, Brooke Davis, Alaina Davis, Parker Davis, Danielle Leonard, Kacee Leonard, Kayla Leigh, Jonathan Leigh, Sabrina Parker, Nikki Parker, and Wesley Parker; one great-great-grandchild, Luke Rice; a brother, Doyle Blankenship and wife Doris, one sister, Emma Jean Parker and husband James, all of Crossett; a stepson, Billy Ramsuer and wife Pat of Tallulah, LA; and grandchildren, Billy Jean, Pattie Kay and Robin Ramsuer.
Visitation was held at Jarvis Chapel at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 11 and continued until the funeral services, which were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13, at Jarvis Chapel Baptist Church with Danny Johnson and Ray Herron officiating. Pallbearers were Malcolm Lee, Harold Tucker, James Outlaw, Mark Trammell, Joe Frank Byrd and Sam McMahan. Honorary pallbearers were Walcie Rice, James Tucker, Ed Watt, Curly Frisby and Clifton Tucker. Interment followed at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Mr. John Nobles Barnes
Mr. John Nobles Barnes, 63, of Parkdale, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at the Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village. A native of Parkdale, he was a former resident of Prescott and McGehee, where he coached football at McGehee High School for four years before moving back to Parkdale 30 years ago. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1959, where he was captain of the football team his senior year. He was a farmer and a vice president of the Parkdale Gin Co. He was an active member of the Parkdale United Methodist Church and a Mason. He was the mayor of Parkdale for the past seven years, and he was president of the Barnes Hunting Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nobles and Vera O'Hara Barnes.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara McClendon Barnes of Parkdale; two daughters, Carla Barnes of Orlando, FL, and Sherry Tara and her husband, Brad, of Columbus, OH; a grandson, Evan Tara; and two sisters, Mary Ann Leslie of Warren and Emily Byers of Dallas, Texas.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 7, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Revs. John Henley and Harry Noble officiating. Pallbearers were Johnny Murphee, Royce Curry, John Hunter Buatt, J. D. Grice, John Sumner Barnes, Ralph Sewell, Harry Dunigan and Carroll Womack. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Hawkins, A. D. Farmer, Prentice Harrell, Harrison Ralph and Sumner Barnes. Interment followed services at the Parkdale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Parkdale United Methodist Church, c/o Glyn Pope, 209 S. Bayou St., Parkdale, Ark. 71661 or to the Parkdale Cemetery Association, c/o Mrs. Glenda Wells, P.O. Box 104, Parkdale, Ark. 71661.
