Jean Cathey
Jean Cathey, 75, of Crossett died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at her home. Born May 4, 1925, to the late Henry and Helen Pansy Gatling Kilpatrick, she attended the Lighthouse Pentecostal Tabernacle and loved to sew. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. W. Cathey.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Parchem and husband Jim of Crossett; two grandchildren, Tracy Rogers and husband Dale and Lisa M. Jones and husband Marty; and two great-grandchildren, Alisha and Nathan Jones.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 6, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Revs. Warren Finney, John Martin and Marty Jones officiating. Pallbearers were Wesley Jones, Sam Finney, Curtis Finney, George Uselton and Justin Uselton and Ricky Miller. Burial followed services at the Smackover Cemetery.
Charles Lee Childress
Charles Lee Childress, 59, of Crossett, died Friday, December 29, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Crossett, a timber worker, and a member of Fudge Baptist Church, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Childress and his parents, Vernon and Elizabeth Monroe Childress. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam era.
He is survived by a son, Charles Childress of Crossett; two daughters, Charlett Childress of Crossett and Elizabeth Ann Childress of Little Rock; his brother, Rev. James Childress of Crossett; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were planned for Wednesday, January 10 at 11:00, in the Ryles Chapel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Jessie Radford officiating. Internment was to follow services at the Ryles Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home.
Mr. Harold D. Griffin
Mr. Harold D. Griffin, 67, of Longview, TX, died Tuesday, Jan 2, 2001, at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. A native of Ashley County, a resident of Longview, TX for the past 25 years and a former resident of Bakersfield, CA, he was a truck driver and diesel mechanic. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Harris, an infant son, David Eugene Griffin; his parents, Lofton & Betty Spires Griffin and a brother, Paul Edward Griffin.
He is survived by a son, Richard Griffin of Marshall, TX; a daughter, Sandra Woods of Longview, TX; four brothers, Carl Griffin of Omaha, NE, A.D. Griffin of Hughes, Roy Dean Griffin of Clyde, MI, and Kenneth Griffin of Hamburg; five sisters, Trecel Miller and Bertha Crow of Bakersfield, CA, Lois McDonald of Fletcher, NC, Ethel Bates of Meeker, OK and Betty Ann Silva of Madison, TN; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Grave-side services and interment were at 11 a.m., Friday, January 5, at the Flat Creek Cemetery with Rev. Houston Austin officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Donald Ray Harris
Donald Ray Harris, 46, died Friday, January 5, 2001 at his residence in Crossett. Mr. Harris was a lifelong resident of Crossett, a construction worker and a member of Gates Chapel A.M.E. He was a 1972 graduate of Crossett High School.
He is survived by a son, Columbus James Harris of Texas; a daughter, Donyelle Harris of Crossett; his parents, A.J. and Betty Harris of Crossett; two brothers, Charles Sims of Rockford, IL and Archie Harris of Crossett; and two sisters, Linda Collins of Rockford, IL and Jacqueline Rhodes of Bastrop, LA.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Gates Chapel A.M.E. with the Rev. Tyrone Broomfield officiating. Pallbearers will be Edgar Johnson Jr., Perry Johnson, Todd Brown Jr., Elijah Harris, Antoine Collins and Curtis Rhodes. Internment will be at the Westview Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home.
