Lucy Inez McCone Jacobs
Lucy Inez McCone Jacobs, 76, of Crossett died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at her home. Born November 16, 1924, in Cominto to Flaudy Earl and Velma Cash McCone, she was a former employee of Chase Bag and retired from the Crossett Water Commission. A member of the Crossett First Baptist Church and the Crossett Quilting Club, she was an avid reader and enjoyed the outdoors, particularly bird watching and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband, John W. Jacobs of Crossett; two sons, John Marion Carter, Jr., and Forrest "Buddy" Carter of Crossett; a daughter, Gaius Blackburn of Fort Smith; two brothers, F. E. McCone, Jr., of Springdale and Billy Bob McCone of Hamburg; two sisters, Berniece Bays and Pauline Sisson of Crossett; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in the First Baptist Church of Crossett with William Blackburn and Tom McCone officiating. Pallbearers were Joe Carter, John Earl and Mitch Bays, Armel Dean, Robert Faye Malloy and D. H. "Doogie" Darling. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Eddie Dewitt Mays Jr.
Infant Eddie Dewitt Mays Jr. of Hamburg, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at he Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
Survivors include his parents, Eddie and Beverly Mays of Hamburg; one sister, April Shaniese Mays of Hamburg; grandparents Mrs. Sammie Mays of Hamburg and Rev. R.N. and Edna Sanders of Malvern; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Grave-side services were Tuesday, June 5, at 4:30 p.m. at Johnson Memorial Cemetery with Supt. Jasper Mays officiating. Arrangements were by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Dora Fox Walden
Dora Fox Walden, 82, of Crossett, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at the Beverly Healthcare of Hamburg. Born on April 16, 1919, to Walter and Ora Lee King Sheffield in Monticello, Mrs. Walden was a member of South Crossett Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude H. Fox, and her second husband, Rueben Walden.
Survivors include two sons, Herbert Wayne Fox and Robert Ernest Fox, both of Crossett; three daughters, Shirley Ainsworth of Crossett, Betty Joan Ferguson of Hamburg, and Marilyn Jean Williams of Hughes Springs, TX; one sister, Georgia Peterson of Bastrop, LA; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, in the South Crossett Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Don Justice and John Williams officiating. Interment followed at Green Hill Cemetery in Monticello under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Pallbearers were Lance Wood, Phillip Bowles, Robert Evans, Earl Haynie, Steve Courson, and Kevin Kilcrease.
Mary Louise Ware
Mary Louise Ware, 77, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. A lifelong resident of Hamburg, a homemaker, and a member of Full Gospel Church of God in Christ, she was preceded in death by her parents, William John and Zebbie Walker Peoples, and one brother, William John Peoples, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James Ware; three sons, Arthur Robinson of Little Rock and John and Lee Troy Ware of Hamburg; three daughters, Charlotte Clifton of Cedar Hill, TX, Carolyn Allen of Plano, TX, and Kathy Davis of Denton, TX; one brother, Ben Chandler of Elsinor, CA; one sister, Doris Griggs of Hamburg; 19 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 9, at 1:00 p.m. in the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Eld. H.P. Woods officiating. Pallbearers were John Woods, Jonathan Young, Johnny Stanley, Teddy Hawkins, Levell Stanley, and Charles Dunn. Interment was in the Pugh Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
