Kathleen Frances Schwartz
Kathleen Frances "Kay" Schwartz of Crossett died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in her home. Mrs. Schwartz was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church. Originally from Churchtown, Southport, England, she came to the United States as a young woman in 1958 on an extended visit. She met and marriage Peter Schwartz of Syracuse, NY, and never returned to England to live. She became a naturalized citizen in 1968. A loving and devoted mother and wife and very active in her church, her community, and a close circle of friends with whom she loved to travel, she was an avid gardener well known for her beautiful English roses and enjoyed caring for her cats as well. Mrs. Schwartz was preceded in death by two sisters: Winford Mary Hudson and Doris Cadwell, and a brother, John Joseph "Jack" Cadwell.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Schwartz, Jr. of Crossett; a daughter Elizabeth White and husband Mark, of Crossett; three sons, Peter Schwartz III and wife Denise of Ashdown, John Schwartz and wife Susan of Alexandria, VA, and Paul Schwartz and Nancy (Reves) of Clarksville, TN; a brother Harold Cadwell of Southport, England; and eight granddaughters, Erica and Abigail White, Rachael, Katie and Hannah Schwartz, Audrey and Caroline Schwartz, and Allison Schwartz.
Funeral mass was celebrated Friday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m. in the Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Neil Pezzulo officiating. Pallbearers were Charles Grassi, Ronald Henley, Frank Mazzanti, Rex Dodson, Phillip Schueth, James Kirkley, Jimmy Grubbs and Bobby McMahen. Internment followed at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2400 Main St., Crossett, AR 71635; The American Cancer Society; or Hospice Home Care, 455 W. Gaines, Monticello, AR 71655.
Alfred M. Shockley, Jr.
Alfred M. Shockley, Jr., 83, of Monticello died Friday, June 1, 2001, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born October 16, 1917, in Ashley County to the late Alfred M. Sr., and Bertha Walker Shockley, he was a retired textile mill worker and was employed at Wal-Mart. An U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son, Daniel G. Shockley, Sr., of Monticello; a daughter, Linda Rankin of Dumas; two brothers, Hendrix Shockley of Pine Bluff and Dwayne Shockley of Slidell, LA; one sister, Bernice Morris of Halley; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m Monday, June 4, in the Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello with Rev. Shawn Barnard officiating. Pallbearers were Edgar Wyles, Chuck Owen, Louis Hudson, Floyd Killough, Ivon Sipes and Ed Nichols. Honorary pallbearers were John Collins, Horace Sawyer and Warner Vining. Burial followed services at the Oakland Cemetery.
JIMMY MILLS JR.
Jimmy D. Mills, Jr., 85, of Crossett, died Jan. 26, 2015 at Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe, La.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, with urial in Pinewood Memorial Park. The Rev. Eric Hodge will officiate.
He was a lifetime resident of Crossett, a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Air Force, a longtime employee of Georgia-Pacific and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Vaughn Mills; his parents, Jimmy Dell and Verdie Woods Mills; a great-grandson, Brady Dye and two brothers, Ronnie and Thomas Mills.
He is survived by a son, David Mills of Crossett; a daughter, Cheryl Montgomery of Crossett; a sister, Eula Jean McKee of Holiday Island; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Wilburn Austin, Carl John Gwin, Steven Haulter, David Moix, Mike Shirley and Mike Herrington.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1533 HWY 52 West, Crossett, AR 71635.
Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
LINDA BROWNING
Linda D. Barnett Browning, 67, of Crossett, died Feb. 5, 2015.
Funeral services were Feb. 8 at South Main Baptist Church, with burial in Pinewood Memorial Park. Bro. Lyle Hern officiated.
She was a member of South Main Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred C. Barnett and Helen Murphy Barnett.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Browning of Crossett; a son, Robert Browning of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Angie Starling of Crossett; a brother, David Barnett of Crossett; two sisters, Sue Price and Pat Clark, both of Crossett; and a grandchild.
Pallbearers were Alex Tyson, Frank Dodd, Bryan Dodd, Frankie Williams, Bill Runyan and Rodger Williams.
Medders Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
