Mrs. Ludie Mae Smith
Mrs. Ludie Mae Smith, 94, of Hamburg died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at the Beverly Health Care Center in Hamburg. Mrs. Smith was a native of Ashley County and a life long resident of the Milo Community. A homemaker and a devoted mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Smith in 1967; two sons, Wilbert L. & Virgil Gary Smith; her parents, Thomas Whitfield & Lottie Herring Thornhill; two brothers, Addison & Odis Thornhill and a sister, Vera Allen.
She is survived by a son, Jehu Smith of Gary, Indiana; three daughters, Ruth McKay of Little Rock, Ann Pummill of Cabot and Lydia Broomfield of Hamburg; a brother, Whitt Thornhill of Monticello; 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 2, in the chapel of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg with Rev. John Ripley officiating. Pallbearers are Lee, T.J., Willie & Tommy Thornhill, Buddy Haycock and Kenneth Moran. Interment followed services at the Eden Cemetery.
William "Billy" Thomasson
William "Billy" Thomasson, 57, of Monticello died Sunday, May 20, 2001, in Stuttgart. A native of St. Louis, MO, and a former employee of the Arkansas Science and Math School in Hot Springs, he was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Alton Hudspeth Thomasson.
Survivors include three sons, Anthony, Lance and Kenneth Thomasson of Stuttgart; two daughters, Adrienne Thomasson of Stuttgart and Tessa Thomasson of Jonesboro; three brothers, Charles and James Thomasson of St. Louis and Robert Thomasson of Monticello; and eight grandchildren.
Grave-side services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, in the Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Alford Branch officiating. Honorary pallbearers were John, Dwight and Justice Hudspeth, Jr., R. C. McCoy, Craig Smith, Robert Arrington, and Joe Gray. Arrangements were by Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg.
Leona Trantham
Leona Trantham, 89, of Boydell died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at the Medical Center of Southeast Arkansas. A lifelong resident of Boydell, she was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burly Trantham; a daughter, Ruby Roberts; two sons, Jerry and Gene Trantham; her parents, Henry and Catherine Bunyon Fleming; three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include two sons, Orville Trantham of Conway and Leroy Trantham of Crossett; six daughters, Louise Holley of Chungala, LA, Helen Cundiff of Springhill, LA, Jewel Streeter of Crossett, Faye Wallace of Hamburg, Bonnie Summers of Fountain Hill and Shirley Edwards of Hamburg; a brother, Raymond Fleming of Kalamazoo, MI; and 33 grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, in the Cromwell Funeral Home chapel. Pallbearers were Jody Edwards, Shannon Wallace, Timmy and Thomas Swan, Joe Roberts and Jarrod Williamson. Burial followed services at the Snyder Cemetery.
Nicholas "Nick" Taylor Barnett
Nicholas "Nick" Taylor Barnett, 82, of Crossett died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at his residence. Born September 3, 1918, to Marshall Taylor and Eulla Sims Barnett, he was a pipefitter and a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Herman Barnett; three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Cope Barnett; a son, Tony Nicholas Barnett, both of Crossett; a daughter, Jo Ann Barnett Cooley of Bald Knob; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, in the Jones Funeral Home chapel in Crossett with Roy Craig, Travis Roberts and Randy Maxwell officiating. Members of Masonic Lodge #576 served as pallbearers. Burial followed services at the Crossroads Cemetery.
